Cop in America doing a bad job, again

As I said, there other options besides shooting it with a gun.

I don’t think spraying a dog would be my go to move, nor would a gun though.

Most of the videos I’ve seen of cops shooting dogs they aren’t even that close/threatening. If a dog was going at you from 20 yards it would take a seriously cool mother fecker to draw and hit it before it was on them.

I think they see a dog, see a potential threat and just go to ‘shoot it’ a lot of the time, cutting out about 4 rational steps in between.

I think a lot of it comes from how it’s viewed upon in law/case law. Dogs are considered “property” (rightly or wrongly, that’s a separate part of the discussion) so there’s not necessarily the same level of consideration when compared to a similar situation with a charging person, for example. With that in mind, the officers may not make the same progression through thinking about varying force options since the dog is just considered “property” as opposed to the consideration when it’s a person/human life.

Again, I’m not saying it’s right or wrong, just my thoughts on why there’s less hesitation from officers drawing guns on dogs. Tasers have been effective, OC spray not so much.

The problem with a taser and a dog is that they’re moving quickly, and are a small target already. The spread of the darts mean you have to be ridiculously accurate, or lucky, to get a connection for the darts to work. With that in mind, and the “dog being only property” situation, it’s easier to see the thought process the officers in those situations make.

He certainly does. Law enforcement needs to eradicate themselves of his type. Most cops I have had interactions with have been decent. Its the utter twats that leave a lasting impression and drag the entire image of LE down.

The problem is the military style policing. There needs to be more of a focus on community policing to earn the communities trust.

The Congo? Why didn’t they ask for asylum in RSA? It’s not like they can get to Chicago directly.
Something doesn’t seem right.

His 92k salary wasn’t enough, apparently.

I think they need to modernize the law in his County. I can see a case for giving him getting a bonus based on the Sheriff departments budget performance but pocketing the entire surplus is insane. In all fairness $92k for the level of responsibility is a pretty low salary.

The issue isn't how much he gets paid - but rather he felt entitled to take money from the state for personal gain - it's a crime, surely?

I'm not really sure what the average wage for a Sheriff is - but presumably most/all public government employees are underpaid relative to the level of responsibility they have to do?

No it is not. The laws were written a long time ago when a sheriff had a lot more authority. The law is wrong but its not totally the sheriff's fault.

Of course, it only highlights just how deep the corruption goes. The whole system is fecked.

Easy, so they can be in the pockets of their biggest campaign donors.
It’s a great system, if you’re the one benefiting from it.

Should be fired for a few reasons and specially when the guy went to his car, should be fired because next time he may not be that lucky. My question is how kind of training they really have? Shouldn’t they learn some form of fighting to stop the guy on his tracks, also he could shoot the guy on his leg because he was so close, anyway I hope the guy realizes not everyone has the balls to be a police officer.

We have a thread to criticize the cops only and when they do a good job or died in service people and specially the media ignores them.
This week we had a police officer who stopped a kid to cause more damage (we don’t know if his intention was killing his ex-girlfriend only) then today they stopped the bomber but the media can’t wait until another black American is killed by a cop.

That's just the nature of the beast. It sells papers and gets clicks, glues people to the news, gets shares, tweets and posts on social media. We "The people" don't know any better and lap it all up.

Credit where credit is due ...but... They’re paid to do their job; “protect and serve” not shoot 1st every time they hear a noise or feel disrespected.
