CL/EL Semi Finals Draw | Pool to face Bayern/Real in final

I'd like to believe if Roma can beat Barca, and not even by a fluke, deservedly beat them, taking care of Liverpool should be fairly straight forward.

Imagine having a run of Porto/City and Roma to the final. You’ll take it every time.

Fair play to you robin for being the most likeable scouse fan on here. Will you go to any of the games?
Currently waiting for my flight to Manchester, going to the game tomorrow. Could go to the home leg against Roma as well but was around 500 euros and had to take two days off work, so passed for that - gutted but it’s the most reasonable decision.

I think we will win our home leg but keeping a clean sheet will be vital, not sure we can do that again and Dzeko is the type of striker we usually struggle against. I think our chances are something like 70/30 imo.

Feck that.

Chance of winning the Champions League with decimal odds based on how I see all possible matchups:

Real - 38.4% (2.60)
Liverpool - 26.4% (3.79)
Bayern - 21.6% (4.63)
Roma - 13.6% (7.35)

If (!) that is anywhere near correct, the value bet would have to be Roma.

Liverpool:
Group - Sevilla, Spartak and Maribor
R16 - Porto
QF - City
SF - Roma

Madrid:
Group - Dortmund, Tottenham and APOEL
R16 - PSG
QF - Juventus
SF - Bayern

When you look at that, we’ve had hell of a nice run :’) still baffles me how people can say that UEFA want Madrid to win. Look at the state of that haha.

Don't care who wins the CL as long as it isn't Liverpool. Anyone but them. Before Roma put Barcelona out, I might have said that was the best draw Liverpool could have had for this, but now I'm not so sure. Hopefully Roma put them out so they don't get anywhere near the trophy.

With 7 or 8 losses. United should have won one or two more under SAF
But I think it has to do with progressing. For whatever reason Liverpool seem to progress at this stage.
Experience is the right word. For example, Real Madrid has the experience to win the UCL because they have players who did it 3 times in 4 years. Mourinho failed to even find good excuses for the European exit. He was talking about Sevilla heritage like, but the team we played against had only 25% from the last Sevilla team that won the europa league, we played against almost a new team with little european experience.

A Roma-Bayern final would be pretty amazing but I don't want to get my hopes up

BTW, away from Liverpool stuff, is this the hardest pathway Madrid took for the final of CL ? It's like they're getting the easy draws in 2014 competition coming back to hunt them. :D

PSG, Juve, Bayern then probably Pool in the final.

If they win it this time they're no more questions about them.

Wow 2014 really? They played Juventus in the group stage, Klopp's Dortmund in querterfinals, Bayern Munich in semifinals, and Atletico de Madrid in the Final...

Hopefully the ref don't bail them out again with daylight offside goals.

Sure, like the one that make Bayern equalize the game and took it to the extra time (should never had been played) where the offside goals you refer to happened right?

There is no conspiracy, Perez's Visa card just got rejected one too many times.

Perez's Visa will never get rejected, he is a billionaire!!! Hahaha.

Really can't see us beat Bayern this time. This is how far as we go. Hope Roma can win it somehow if we don't.

Come on Vato, you are looking as a Barca fan, not a Madrid fan! Real Madrid are always confident to win, it doesn't matters if they are favourites or not! 3 times in 4 years winning the UCL and with Cristiano Ronaldo in his best moment, you should be much more confident!

Wasnt this the same tie where Real scored 3 goals that should've been disallowed in 1 match? (just asking, memory's fuzzy)

2 goals, not 3. In an extra time that was only played because Bayern scored the equalizer with a blatant Lewandoski offside. Referee was shite for both teams, don't try to be the victim.

Because Pool are better than Barca in attack. They don't sit back and hope that Roma score some OG.

Not that I am writing off Roma, but Pool have a great chance to reach finals.

Hahahahaha Pool better than Barca in attack? With Messi, Suarez, Iniesta, Dembele, Coutinho? Really?!! Hahaha.

Should Madrid make it, has their been a tougher run to the final?

Spurs and Dortmund in the group and then PSG, Juventus and Bayern in the knock outs.

In fact my friend, almost every year is the same.

In 2013 Madrid got a group with Klopp's Dortmund, Ajax and Manchester City. Played in the last 16 round vs SAF Manchester United and vs Heynckes Bayern in semifinals.

In 2014 Madrid faced Juve in group stages, Klopp's Dortmund in quarters, Bayern in semis and Atletico in the final.

In 2015 they faced Liverpool in group stages, Atletico in quarters, and then got beaten by Juve in semis.

2017 they got Sporting Lisboa and Dortmund in groups, Napoli in last 16 round, Bayern in quarterfinals, Atletico in Semis, and Juve in the final.

2018 got Totenham and Dortmund in group stages, PSG in last 16 round, Juve in quarterfinals and Bayern in semifinals.

Even in the easiest year of all, in 2016, Madrid had to face in UCL teams like PSG, Roma, City and Atletico. But because they got Wolfsburg in quarterfinals (can't get always the most difficult right?) people say it was the easiest path ever to win the UCL.

It is amazing how some people say that Madrid is always favoured by UEFA and talk about hot/cold balls conspiracies after looking the draws the get almost every year. Just amazing...

You know why people clapped?`Because of pricks like you. That wasn't even a foul from Vidal (although Kroos REALLY wanted it to look like that), and he still got sent off later. So what do you complain about. Yet we got at least one red card which was utter bullshit. And if Vidal had to go, yes, Casemiro should have been sent of as well.

That pen was a pen, there were no offside goals in those matches. Wtf man. How can one be so delusional. Probably because deep down you know you should have gone out that night.

Even with the video he posted you say that is not a foul? So I suppose that the foul he made in the 2nd minute of the 2nd game wasn't a straight red right?

And then you say that the pen the referee awarded Bayern in the 1st game was a clear pen, and that the goal that took the game to extra time wasn't a clear offside by Lewandoski?!

Hahahaha ok, I think you have already exposed yourself, or that you are just trolling... The most ridiculous post I've ever read!

Which Bayern player do we reckon is gonna get a soft red then?

Hmm, the only Bayern player I've been red carded vs Madrid was Vidal, and it was hardly a soft red. He should've been red carded much before.

One question... you think that Dybala and Buffon shouldn't have been red carded right?

Neither did you.

You are so predictable and I already had your response covered.

Liverpool.

Home tie 2 - 2
Away tie 3 - 3

Uniteds

Home tie 1 - 2
Away tie 0 - 0

Who goes through ?

Dunno man, that last game at home against Juve put my feet firmly back on the ground. If we have another night like that against Bayern we'll not only lose, we'll get humiliated.

Sorry. Meant 2016 when they faced Roma, Wolfsburg and City.

I feel something similar. I think that with extra time we would be out.
I imagine Zidane completely overcome tactically.
The third consecutive sounded great but it is better to be prepared for the worst.
PSG, Juve and Bayern, and then people will still talk about hot balls.

Extra time against 10 men, you'd have won at a canter, Ronaldo would probably have broken his CL all time record already.

Jupp Heynckes is a worry though...

Of course you had it covered. You drew twice. Meaning you didn’t win. Also, we were talking about what Liverpool had done in the CL, and you dragged United into it.

Roma are really good in the CL.

They topped their group with Chelsea and Atletico Madrid. They have a very tactically astute manager, who won't walk right into Liverpool's hands like Baldy.

Juventus were 30 seconds away from beating Madrid. And they were extremely wasteful in the 1st leg. Going to Madrid with a 3 goal deficit was not a clear reflection of their performance.

How do you come to this conclusion?

Roma have lots of good players.

Crucially aswell they have players who know the premier league like Dzeko and Kolarov.

Can see two problems though.

Roma's problem over the years has always been tightening up at key moments (Italian equivilant of Arsenal). I remember a few years back they won their first 10 Seria A game under Rudi Garcia while Juventus had a mediocre start. Juve still won the league by 10 + points.

Barca second leg was a pressure less free hit.

Say they get a 1-1 at Anfield, how will they cope with the expectation at home? Again a few years ago they just needed a home draw to knock Man. City out of the groups and lost 3-0.

They also have a few players knocking over 30 in the midfield area, Radja, De Rossi etc. Liverpool press like crazy which obviously Barca in the away league just didn't do.

Will still be an interesting tie though and certainly not a free pass for Liverpool just because they didn't draw Munich or Real Madrid.

Ok.

Lets go back to what started this this. Someone said all we have done is beat City and my response was ( tongue in cheek ) about us getting a bye to the quarters . Meaning that we just landed in the quarters without having to play a single game. We had to get through the group stage and it wasnt a tough group I admit and we only beat Porto but I think they snotted ' only ' Monaco who are the French Champions . You are going to come back with but theres only PSG and they were rebuilding. Cant be arsed. You can only beat whats in front of you and we are in the semi's whether anybody on here likes it or not.

So what you’re saying is, all you’ve done is beat City. That’s what I said at the start. We’ll see what happens against Roma.

Yes but being fair here Dortmund are fecking shit.

Like you said we can only beat what’s in front of us and it’s not like we havent done it convincingly. Won our group comfortably while beating 2 of the teams in our group 7-0. Then beat Porto 5-0 on aggregate, then beat City 5-1 on aggregate. Even against Hoffenhaim we beat them 6-3 on aggregate to qualify. Other than maybe City second leg I think we’ve been the better team every single game as well. Don’t know what else they expect us to do. I’m starting to notice that breakout67 and Haram are very very anti Liverpool and let it cloud their judgement massively. I think we have a great shot against them and we’ll certainly see how we stack up when we play them at Anfield.

Your doubts are valid, but actually the ballpark has changed. Roma have been Arsenalesque, particularly under Fraudi Garcia, but now they have a better manager. They might have played without fear against Barca, but even now they have exceeded their targets by making the semis, so there will be no pressure on them. If anything, pressure is on Liverpool who will get the favorites tag for some reason.

Di Francesco will adapt to the strengths of their over 30 players. In any case, likes of Nainnggolan (sp?) are still very much on top of their game. I think they will go for a more direct approach.

As I said before, I would have preferred Bayern in the draw. With this Roma anything can happen, our final is not a given, like the title suggests. There will be two hard games, and then we'll see.
We are still unlikely to win the CL.

The pairs are pretty even though, which is good.

If it's not us I hope Bayern win it, because I like Heynckes. His Bayern was a joy to watch a few years ago, such a pity the bald one ruined that monster team.

Interesting, you all fully behind EDF then? Obviously CL campaign been outstanding so far which has masked underwhelming Seria A. Saw your game v Meelan a few weeks back and Roma were totally outplayed.

Infact Roma struggled to win any big games in Seria A this season bar the win in Naples.

Still all very tight for CL qualification next season.

All you’ve done is beat City. It’s not even a controversial statement. Sorry for not being fond of Liverpool either. Never did I say you didnt deserve to be in the semis anyway.
