Jurgen Klopp Sack Watch

I think he's a good manager, albeit an absolute bell end. His front 3 are an exceptional threat because defenders hate pace, as they say. And Firmino knows how to drop off & release the other two because he's a top class footy player who plays & knows his role fantastically well.

Deirdre's tactics set a dilemma for the oppo isn't it? Sit in & we'll press you, come to us & we'll hit you on the counter. I think he has got them pressing a lot more selectively now though, certainly against the stronger teams - City for instance, though I know some on here don't see that.

The one thing they really don't like is being put under pressure, either from long balls played to a target man & then the game re-commenced from there or a full press put on like City or Spurs would try & rushing the defence. Method 1 is more how Mourinho's Utd go against them.

Pushing up to halfway though, especially when it just isn't on to do so, that's just suicidal against their pace.

Curiously unaffected by Coutinho going aren't they - he's just put some more legs into the MF and on they go.

Oh, and the FBs are great aren't they - always supporting, plenty of legs, know now when to go & when not to, rather than having Moreno there anyway, :D.

They're a dangerous team alright, I hope they keep faith with Lovren & never acquire a decent GK, that's for sure.

And Salah can feck off any time he likes, obviously.

They wanted VVD before they sold Coutinho? Look at OX fee and they tried to sign Lemar as well. Never mind Kieita.
We have Pogba but VVD cost as much as Lukaku so the next on our list is Lindelof? Bailly perhaps?
Our spend isn't exactly Galactico mark 2 over here! The difference between the two isn't as vast as you'd think.

We are also better than them in the league...and a lot on here say that the league is the 'bread and butter' while the CL is 'luck based'. Basically just shift the goal posts to suit the point you want to make.

The same cnuts were saying how pool “deserve to be second not us” they have kept their mouths shut for a while but have tried to raise their Weasley heads above the parapets after a win against a team that played tactics no different than those of a match fixing attempt. If Jose got us to play those types of long ball tactics the same idiots would slaughter him regardless

Well to play the devil's advocate that's what football supporters do. I'm sure a few who boast about us being ahead of Liverpool in the league now have at some point in time pointed out how money decides the league positions and thus Pep is not a genius and not better than Mourinho and spending decides the league positions... Or talked about Pep starting with a better squad than Mourinho but look at some of the dross Klopp had to deal with. Arguably worse than what Mou had. So going with that theory us being ahead of Liverpool doesn't say much about Klopp, money talked.

He got them into third (about where they should be given their spend ranking?) just as Mourinho got us into second (where we should be), with the difference that they go to the CL final and we got fa cup. Klopp did pretty well.

The only reason they twatted Barca was because Suarez and Messi couldn't be bothered to play and were just walking around for 90 minutes. Liverpool's front 3 don't walk.

Yep, and Liverpool also had a mini-collapse at the end of the game. If Klopp was this super coach then surely he would have eliminated those things from Liverpool's game.

That's not playing devil's advocate, all you've said is that because a lot of football supporters are reactionary and emotionally driven that it's fair game. Which is nonsensical.

I prefer to follow a balanced approach, Klopp has done well in Europe but has been quite underwhelming domestically. Based on the situation of Liverpool before he came, most Liverpool fans will be satisfied with the season and you can reasonably say that he has done a good job. But, a trophy is important so either the CL this season or a trophy next season would be important.

No need to paint him as some magician that makes all of his players into world beaters because it's demonstrably false. That Liverpool team is designed to get the best out of the forward line and the defence and midfield sacrifices it's basic functions for that purpose (their defence is leaky and their midfield struggle to build play, both which are generally fundamental to top teams). They are a glass cannon team, that can blow a team away or capitulate (and they often do both in the same game).

There are better teams and better coaches I'd want to emulate. Klopp has deficiencies that you can't reasonably overlook just like most managers.

This is exactly the reason why I'm hoping Klopp will invest in a player who can dictate the tempo of the game. I'm still holding out hope for Jorginho even with the strong links of City. I don't think his back 3 strategy helps neither as it just invites pressure which we typically struggle to handle. The only time going to a back 3 is useful in my opinion is when we need to stretch play more if the opposition are defending deep as it enables both our full backs to go forward more freely and stretch their back line. We just need someone who can control tempo in midfield and maybe someone more capable on the ball than Lovren next to Van Dijk, Pavard I'm a big fan of as we can play it between the back line easier that way as well.

Well Liverpool's transfer net spend actually has them at 6 million € transfer income over the last two seasons. During the same time United is at a deficit of almost 300 million €. (according to transfermarkt)

Ive had this argument before but its hard to use net spend when Coutinho was only recently sold and all of it was immediately spent!
Coutinho will fund this upcoming summer imo, I can't see how an unwanted sale lessens their previous spending power.
If Utd were to sale DDG for 150m tomorrow it wouldn't mean Jose suddenly becomes a transfer market savant, it would just mean we sold a world class player and on we go.

It´s the classic old thinking:

If you need defense bring on an additional defender
If you need attack bring on an additional attacker

To me most of the time the answer is bring on an additional midfielder.

You need to release pressure and regain control of the match, bring on an extra midfielder that gives you an extra outlet and legs in the middle of the park (take off a striker). If you need to create more offense, because you are chasing the game bring on an extra midfielder to control the middle of the park and overload them with runs (take off a defender).

Exactly man and it's baffling. As stupid as it sounds but to me the only time to ever bring a defender on is when we're drawing or losing and need to stretch play as it enables our two full backs to play as midfielders just like you're saying. Issue is I guess we didn't even have a midfielder on our bench tonight once Gini came on so not much else Klopp could do. Only got 3 midfielders left now as Can, Lallana and Ox all seem to be out for the rest of the season. If we get to the UCL final I think our bench is going to be awful. Need another couple of midfielders on top of Keita this summer in my opinion, Jorginho and Rabiot my ideals personally with Can and Lallana going the other way as I just don't think we can rely on Lallana anymore unfortunately.

Well thats the whole point isnt it.
Right now at this moment in time Klopp has fired Lpool to potentially the CL final with €5-€6 mil net spend. And you're underestimating how hard it is for one of your key clogs to leave and still function efficiently.

Yeah. Reaching the Champions League final with this dross is really something. How the neck he managed to get Milner, Lovren, Alexander-Arnold, Karius and co. to a Champions League finals (in this fashion, no less) is beyond me.

He's operating on a shoestring budget compared to our manager, who got outcoached by Montella of all people for 2 consecutive matches as we went out to a joke of a Sevilla team, deservedly.

A few posts on here about a "lucky draw." I can only shake my head and laugh at the bitterness. Draining the champions of England - who are well on their way to decimate the points, goals, and wins record - is not a lucky draw. Drawing the team that pasted Barcelona 3-0 just a couple of weeks ago isn't lucky either.

Credit to what they've done. They've been an offensive juggernaut. And on this showing, and result, they're favourites to reach the final.

I think people are mostly referring to 1/3 from Real, Bayern, & Roma. Also, nobody would be discussing how they played "long balls" if Klopp hadn't been so critical of us for using this very tactic to beat his side.

It’s not. 2005 they were lucky.

People need to give them credit. They swatted Porto away from home 5-0. How many teams have done that? Not many. We been to Porto many times and struggled. It’s a tough place to go. Then they beat City home and away. They just scored 5 past Roma. It’s not their fault that Barca choked their match. The amount of chances Chelsea created against Barca, Liverpool would have had a field day.

This time around if they make it to the final then they deserve it. They been the best team to watch in the competition. I’m just hoping Bayern or Real know playing ridiculous high lines isn’t going to work.
 
I can see him doing a Brendan Rodgers (if They get into the final), getting too naive and plays an attacking football all game while the opponent (Madrid/Bayern) catch them off guard on the break. Those team have way better midfielders and defenders as well.

Mou setup your team perfectly and won the game deservingly, but there is a huge, huge difference between long balls that are just lumped forward to your big striker hoping he wins the header and does something out of nothing with it, or long balls to one of your wingers with acres of space open that he will get pretty much everytime if the pass is anywhere near accurate.
 
To get to a final with a midfield of Henderson Milner and Wad/OX is unbelievable achievement. And he didn't spend half a billion like Pep and even sold Coutinho

He is on the best way of doing so and not only this but his team plays highly attractive and aggressive football - just great to watch most of the time! This is the way I would like to see United play (again). Yes, they lose stupid games from time to time (so do United) but there's a clear develpoment in the team & tactics.

Will be interesting to see what he will do in the summer window. If he keeps this frontline and adds some quality to the back I can see him challenge next season!

Same shite was said before they lost to Sevilla in the EL final. Hold your horses, let him first make the final and play it.

Klopp does build teams that can beat anyone, but so far he has also demonstrated his teams can lose to anyone as well. Should have been beaten by City in the UCL if it wasn't for the refereeing, but of course, anything is fair game in a cup competition and I am not making excuses to dodge the elephant in the room.
 
Klopp has been managing for 17 years and won 5 things, why the hell people think he's some kind of super manager who can win anything is beyond me.

Come on!? They didn't go through because of the ref. They won the first game comfortably and nobody knows how the second game would have developed had Leroy's goal counted.
It's ridiculous to claim that it was all because of the ref.
 
Reaching the final while playing only one top team in City and then having all referee decisions going your way involves a lot of luck. Liverpool have been good but also very lucky.

Ah I see, so we "lump" the ball in hope, but theirs are tactically placed accurate passes... gotcha. I guess Klopp just needs to be most specific with his moaning.

Why do some people in here get so defensive? :lol: I mean the two long balls that resulted in goals against them were pretty much goal kicks from De Gea finding Lukaku who wins the header against Lovren and got his teammates through, wasn't it? I mean there is absolutely nothing wrong about that, but it is much more different than through balls to the wingers against a suicidal high line with acres of space to run into.
