I don't want a cracker. A dull Madrid win will do me just find

Ah come on. Imagine a 5-4 win to Madrid with Liverpool taking the lead once or twice.

It'll make it sweeter. Granted more nervy for us at the idea of them winning it but still - at the end of the day, it's a Champions League Final and I want to see a classic.

If true,’is that likely to affect his energy levels at all?

It definitely should play a part. Having grown up in a country where almost everyone fasted, people got very tired by the afternoon. He's an elite athlete though + there's the adrenaline effect.

How many hours prior and for how long? Surely they would have preparations in place for this and supplements he can take?

You have to stop eating by sunrise, which is around 5am these days, and you break the fast by sunset, which in Kiev is around 9pm. It's an almost 16 hour window of no food or drink (assuming he has his last meal at 5am which is probably unlikely).

Its mental if they are fasting during this period. The champions league surely has to be their priority they can always make up for the fasting later. There are exemptions for people who are working you can’t let religion ruin something as important as this.

The game starts 9.45pm Kiev time, so I think he will be fine then. He can have something before the game and during the break to top up his energy levels.

Forgot about the time difference. Yep, he'll be able to refuel 45mins before kick-off then.

I want a slaughter. A proper humiliation.

6-0 to Madrid will do me nicely.

Muslims who travel don’t have to fast. So mane and salah should be exempted

45 mins before kick off after a 16 hour window of no food and drink is a bit of a nightmare.

I'd imagine Liverpools nutritionist and dieticians will be prepared for this for Mane/Salah.

To me this attitude, which I admit seems to be one shared by many, comes across as the loathing of Liverpool is greater than the love for Utd.
Not really. Context is important it is all about competition and end results. Of course, ideally we would like to win whereas scousers lose. Anyways, going in circles. Let's agree to disagree and move on. Hala Madrid!

Turning into a bit of a farce. 1000 Madrid fans have returned their tickets as well.

Depends on the person involved. If religion is important to him, he won't think much of it. And yes, before you say it, psychology sometimes can bridge the gap in level created by physiology.

Agree! Can't wait for this game. It has some potential to be a classic  Don't mind a nervy game. Been starved of real excitement in far too many games this season.

Getting to Kiev sounds like an absolute nightmare in every way. Flights have been well over £1000, as is one night's worth of accommodation. The city is clearly lacking the infrastructure for such an event. Poor from UEFA yet again.

Why are the media acting like this has only ever happened to Liverpool?

About the fasting thing for Mane and Salah, it’s almost definitely going to be the case that they won’t be fasting. Muslims get leeway when they travel 40 miles away from their homes. Depending on who you ask, they can go three, five, or seven days without fasting at their destination.

At a match like this, I’m 99.9% certain they’ll be at peak physical conditioning. If they’re not at their best it won’t be because of Ramadan.

Correct they are exempted & they would be silly if they were fasting. Islamic ruling is if a person is away from their home of a distance of 47miles or so they are classed as a traveller. The traveling person is exempted from fasting & the missed fast must be made up at a later date.

They really are no better than FIFA in this regard. Choosing of venues doesn't take the fans into account, only internal politics and money.

The final’s back at the Ataturk in 2020. Hopefully they’ve improved its accessibility since 2005.

I can't remember the last time a CL final was in such a difficult location. Looking at finals from 1955 onwards, more or less all have been played in major international cities predominantly in western Europe. Even a club the size of Madrid have had to hand back 2000 tickets because their fans have struggled so badly with logistics.

Ironically, Istanbul in 05 probably comes second in terms of being difficult to get to, and Athens 2007 3rd.

Moscow 2008 was a shambles as well. Some people were thrown off our flight (which left hours late) and some were cancelled.

I'm getting so anxious now. 2 days away! I think it's very apt that we are facing Madrid as my last painful memory of us in the Champions League was when we got trounced 0-3 at Anfield by that mob. I couldn't forget that night for quite a while and I know both teams are way stronger/different now but hopefuly it's revenge.

Reaching a final is huge for us, but when you get there you have to win. Being underdogs will help in contrast to against Sevilla in 2016.

 Who could have thought that. And some people lambasted me when I questioned the choice of Kiev last year, as if there was nothing objectionable about it. It's even close to what's still a warzone ffs.

What an absolute mess indeed. Poor show from UEFA.

This 40 mile "rule" just shows again what a load of made-up bollocks all religion is. I think Liverpool should force them to eat if necessary. A Champions League final is no time for silly superstitions. That being said fasting is actually really good for the body and I do intermittent fasting almost every day (i.e. not eating for 16h). Not sure how I would fare in a competitive football match at the end of these 16 hours, though.
Isn't 16 hours a bit much? How do you get along?

Well, 7 or 8 hours of those you sleep anyway and then I usually just skip breakfast, have lunch at noon and dinner at 8 (snacks in between). Every day is a bit different and it's not an exact science so these times vary (especially at weekends) but in general it works pretty well and I don't really get hungry before noon and feel great. If you are interested, here's a well-researched article on the subject: https://www.marksdailyapple.com/health-benefits-of-intermittent-fasting/

Interestingly it features this sentence:
Studies on Muslim athletes during Ramadan show no effect on performance while fasting, as well as better lipids in those who exercise and fast rather than just fast.

No you mention it (sleep that is:)), sometimes it's the same for me. I have a big breakfast, dont eat anything at work and then have lunch at around 17.

That's outrageous. The working man's game my ass.

You shut your dirty mouth

Nerves started kicking in today. I can take us losing but it’ll be harder to handle if we get turned over. I don’t see that happening unless there’s an early red card.

We need to start strongly and try to unsettle Madrid as soon as possible. I know it’s not at Anfield but a fast start is needed imo.

Don't worry I put hundred quid on Madrid yesterday, I rarely feckin win.

In two days, we're playing a bloody champions league final. Jurgen Klopp is our manager and we play amazing football.

Good times.

That's understandable mate. Could be worse though, imagine how Karius must be feeling right now. Ronaldo and friends are bearing down on you, fully intent on breaking the very net you are guarding, and your primary method of prevention happens to be none other than Dejan freaking Lovren. Enough to give you nightmares.
