Zinedine Zidane | Resigns

Could you imagine the battle at Real if Wenger took the job. Perez wanting to splash the cash and Wenger not wanting to splash the cash.

He's got no one to blame but himself, if your going to play football manager for 3 seasons and not even save once then of course when you accidentally resign it's going to royal feck you over.

Did not expect that. Good for him though. Was one of the biggest footballing legends of all time as a player, then did this as a manager... arguably one of the greatest careers in total. Wonder if he'll look to become a manager elsewhere and grow or if he'll just call it a day.

Haha Perez looks a broken man in that press conference

For all the talk of bowing out at the top it takes some courage to actually do it

Fair enough. Leave on a high, he'll know what they're like and anything other than the CL again next year and he'll be out.

Can someone rationalise why Zidane is resigning? I think he will regret it for a 'break' or 'new challenge'. He has the best players available to him and if he wants a challenge, well there is an ageing team in Real Madrid where he can build on.

This thing about leaving on a high is nonsense! You try to better yourself every time until you fail, even then you persevere. Any manager would kill to be in his position.

If he is leaving due to unforeseen circumstances in terms of a personal/family issues, then so be it and good luck to him.
Would you rather leave like fergie, get sacked like mourinho, or leave like Wenger?

Great decision by Zidane. Leaving before he's fired, after completing a three peat with a league title on top.

What a legend. 3 UCL in a row and decides to leave on his own.

Hard not to love the guy.

France after the World Cup or a sabbatical followed by the Juventus job.

What more can he do at Real Madrid? Right time for him to take a break and then find a proper challenge somewhere.

Maybe get one of the Milan teams back to the top, that would be exciting to follow. The French national team would be a nice job too.

Good move for him. Rebuilding at Madrid is a fools errand and the guy who begins the rebuild job is the one who has to deal with the grief.

Why spoil his immaculate record?

Well. Jose said he was lining up an assistant who he’s been associated with earlier but who’s at another club. No Zizou resigns.

Kidding of course. Blimey! What a high though. If he never manages a club again, he’s going to be the answer of club trivia questions for decades...

What a legacy he has left behind though. That Madrid team has to go down as the most successful team in football. Three CL's in a row is crazy and will probably never be done again.

What a guy - resigning when on top of his game in one of the biggest team in the world. Can't be said about a lot of other guys who have been in similar situation. Hats off to Zizu. Great guy and wish him all the best.

Best he could have done. There was talks before Xmas about him getting the sack because of their very poor domestic season.

I don't think he's a world class manager if I'm being honest and that title will follow him everywhere like it did with Pep until he silenced the critics this season. Good motivator and well respected legend of the game, that's the only reason it worked with a bunch of divas at Madrid. The quality of that team was always there, they just had to get someone in to tame them. Tactically, I think he'll be found out.

He'll always be my favorite player but as a manager, I wouldn't be overly disappointed if I was a Madrid fan.

Zidane at Chelsea next year?

They won 5 in a row in the 50s. The 3 peat had been done by Ajax and Bayern, so steady on.

Bit surprised at his retirement. Wonder why no one is calling him weak.
