Southgate is trying to get tis England team to play a type of foootball they just aren't good enough to get away with.
I mean I like that he actually has a plan, but there clearly needs to be a better one in place for, well, most games we'll play at a tournament. All well and good having defenders who like too dick around with the ball but can't defend, until you actually have to do some defending...especially when said defenders aren't actually very good at dicking around with the ball either.
Also you need good midfielders for this type of play. England lliterally don't have any.

You have a nice set of central mid with Kovacic-Modric-Rakitic but is there no adequate AM? Modric always play that role but a bit limited his strength for what i've seen watching him in NT.
