Group D (Argentina, Croatia, Iceland, Nigeria)

Can anyone confirm - what happens if a player gets injured? Do they still call up people from the standby list or are they down to 22 players from 23?
They can call any player. Not only those in the standby list.

We are good. Come on.... and these are friendly matches. We will walk through group.
I will avoid you during the cup. :smirk:
Today's game was pure torture. No plan, no idea, just lump it forward, throw 4, 5 attackers and see what happens. :)

I think Croacia's quality and experience (Modric, Mandzukic) will be enough to see them through.

We are never good in friendly matches. This was 30% of our true quality. No worries

Problem is we tend to be shite even in tournaments. :)
Dont mind me, I'm a pessimist so I'll be nicely surprised if we'll be good.

I don't get why people are saying this is going to be easy for Croatia when it really isn't. There is a difference between friendlies and the World Cup and one huge thing to note about Croatia in their game against Senegal is that they are very weak against teams with pace.

These are the types of teams that Nigeria strives against.

And dont avoid me, we'll play football together. :D
feck, i forgot that. It will be hard to avoid you then...
Start thinking like average croat ffs. We are the best, we have best midfield in the world and we are going in russia to win this.:)

Sampaoli has been practicing with this team today, a week before our first game

Messi--------Meza-------Di Maria

The last time someone other than Messi scored in an official game for Argentina was almost 19 months (12 official matches) (569 days) ago. And they were assisted by Messi.

16th of November 2016 - Argentina 3-0 Colombia - Pratto and DI Maria scored - And that's 7 official games I think.

Admire your optimism. We are feckin shit. 5 years on and we still can't play Kovacic, Modric and Rakitic together. Also now we have Modric at 10 which means he will be less on the ball.

And that would be fine if had some actual firepower upfront. No wonder we looked best when Perisic was on his purple patch and provided goals and assists. Anyway, hope you're right and I'm wrong.

There are some rumours about Argentina manager. Anyone knows more about this? Word is even that they may even change managers before the wc.

I have a funny feeling Argentina will crash out at group stage.

Not a funny feeling at all. Argentina struggled to qualify and any slippage in the group stage could not be rescued. Croatia and Iceland are solid teams capable of exploiting any mistakes.

Nigeria is capable of exploiting mistakes as well.

Sticking my neck out a bit on this one...

Argentina
Iceland
Nigeria
Croatia

Just read that Lanzini is out of the World Cup with an ACL injury suffered in training. fecking hell ... so gutted to read this about a player.

I am going to go with

Argentina
Croatia
Iceland
Nigeria

Iceland will put up a gutsy performance but ultimately fall short. Lady's luck won't shine on them thrice. Nigeria is just so poor. With the quality Argentina and Croatia have, they should qualify ahead of those two. The fact that this can be called the Group of Death shows how far the top teams have fallen and the lack of star quality. I remember watching the 2006 World Cup and the Group of Death has Argentina, Netherlands, Ivory Coast, Serbia. That was tasty.

We aren't that poor. A few friendlies aren't going to show that you that either. We can do what we have done in previous world cups and still get out of this group and even top it. Wait until the big dance.

Also we are a clearly better team than Iceland.

They call this a group of death also because Iceland has given trouble to Croatia and England as well as Nigeria's record at the world cup group stage. Nigeria has the most World Cup wins of Any African team and have made it out of the group stage 3 times in their last 5 outings, winning two of the groups they made it out of (94 and 98).

Also this Nigerian team isn't afraid of any team in the group and when the big event arrives will be very ready. You wait and see.

Of course it wont be an easy game on Saturday. On the contrary I predict a tough game with one or 2 goals tops. I hope our players wont underestimate Nigeria cause they really dont have a reason to. Especially since we havent looked anything special in the last 3 games. It looked our coach is still finding a style, winning formation, anything to go by. I dont have any high expectation for this tournament so if we do good I'll be nicely surprised.
If not it will be a generation well and truly wasted.

Have you heard anything more regarding their starting keeper? Caballero looks set but I can't write off Armani.

It seems Cabellero will be starting for Argentina. That's what the medias saying.

This will be the XI :

Is it just me who find their whole clapping hands with the fans the most cringey shit? And then you have other countries imitating Iceland which is even worse and just so embarrassing and pathetic. Its like in rugby where other countries imitate All Blacks and do the haka.

Well screw you I love it:nono:, will be watching their games specifically for that. Can't compare this to the haka, these feckers have the whole stadium in on it

Nice one. He's lucky to be starting but I hope he takes his chance with both hands.

Fekin hell, just watching a documentary about 1998. We had a lead at Saint Denis for about a minute, then Thuram scored two goals. His only 2 goals in his NT career ever.

Fekin hell. If only we held out for a minute more after Šuker scored. Still get depressed watching that.

I watched that game. You would never think that France could win after that 1-0...I was supporting you guys because i thought it would be better than facing France in the final:D.

I could be wrong but i think your captain gave away the ball to the french in both goals. I remember that we were watching and everbody were mad at the guy in that moment.

Boban gave to ball to Djorkaef for the 1st goal, he had a problem with injury and Ćiro Blažević, our coach, was even thinking about subbing him of. Of all the players our captain was the one who lost the ball. He was devastated after that. For the 2nd goal I think Jarni lost the ball.

It was similar or even more tragic in 2008. We took a lead vs Turkey in the quarters in the 119th minute only to concede a minute or 2 after that and lost on penalties. I havent watched anything from that game for a good 4, 5 years. :D

Meza has only recently debuted for the team. If this is the lineup, it will be very interesting to see how it works out
Also wouldn't be a bit odd to start Salvio instead of Mercado. Isn't he fully recovered?

Yeah he is, Sampaoli will play Mercado vs Iceland because he thinks the vikings will not attack that much and he needs a good option to open the field. Salvio will almost always be attacking.

I think Mercado will play vs Croatia. Sampaoli will move according to the rivals.

I'm thinking Messi will find a way to take this team far as this is probably his last Cup while still in his prime.

I'm also thinking the Clap will disappoint this year... too much build up.
