Day 4: Costa Rica vs Serbia, Germany vs Mexico , Brazil vs Switzerland

Swiss are dominating the match, but eventually the gulf in class will shine through as usual, like Pool against Madrid

What!? They aren’t dominating this match, how can you say that? Zero shots on target, Brazil have scored, had a dangerous chance at 0-0 and also Silva’s header at the end. Possession about 50/50.. Brazil comfortably in control on 90%

Shhhhh, don't let the cat out of the bag. We need him to continue preventing Firmino from the limelight. :nervous: The fecker Coutinho got noticed for Brazil and Barcelona were all over him. The cnuts.

If Ronaldo were a bit younger I could definitely see Madrid getting Countinho to play up front with him. He would make an excellent foil for Ronaldo. Can probably see them still trying for him in all honesty.

I bet Brazil will press some minutes to score the second then will save energy the rest of the game.

Swiss as dull as ever. Brazil were brilliant for 10 minutes then what happened?

Obviously you mean Firmino, right? Not sure why you think Firmino is only good to be a foil but otherwise not worth considering. Each to their own I guess.

He needs to stay hidden. Hopefully Kane is their target while he is subbed all world cup.

Sorry meant Firmino. Don’t get me wrong, he is a wonderful player, I think I’ve said before that he is probably the most underrated attacker in the PL. What I was referring to here is that his link up play and ability to create for the other attackers around him is phenomenal, the kind of thing that ronaldo of the last few years would feed off of.

As I said in the second half of my post, I can see them being interested in him regardless of Ronaldo, purely based on his own quality. I am a bit salty that we ended up signing Memphis at the time we were rumored to be in for Firmino.

Guys, Jesus can’t be that bad. After all, his country even have a huge statue of him in Rio De Janeiro...

Guys... don't forget that hardly did Brazil start outstandingly well during a World Cup. Not even the spectacular Brazil'82 did dominate URSS during their debut. Let's check out the first Brazilian matches in the WC after they won their third title:
  • Brazil 0 - 0 Yugoslavia - 1974
  • Brazil 1 - 1 Sweden - 1978
  • Brazil 2 - 1 URSS - 1982
  • Brazil 1 - 0 Spain - 1986
  • Brazil 2 - 1 Sweden - 1990
  • Brazil 2 - 0 Russia - 1994
  • Brazil 2 - 1 Scotland - 1998
  • Brazil 2 - 1 Turkey - 2002
  • Brazil 1 - 0 Croatia - 2006
  • Brazil 2 - 1 North Korea - 2010
  • Brazil 3 - 1 Croatia - 2014
As far as you all can see, we've had some tough time even against some average/weak teams during the first match, and this Switzerland's squad is actually pretty decent. So take it easy and hold your horses for a while. According to my knowledge, Brazil is playing a safe game and they weren't nearly as shaky as Germany and Argentina were in this WC.

I wonder how many times Coutinho will have to score the exact same goal before teams start closing down his right foot when outside of the box.

Switzerland are the dullest team in football history btw but they are pretty good.

Since the last world cup they had 1 impressive result with a home win over Portugal, and recently drew with Spain in one of the pre world cup friendlies (de gea mistake tbf). Didnt think they did anything impressive at the last euros, all their other qualifiers are just beating the teams you should. Like it's pretty standard results for what you would expect as they arent awful, they're solid but them being 6th shows how much of a farce the rankings are. They're decent at best, but no better then teams like Serbia or Iceland IMO. Solid, unspectacular.
Anyway, I agree, dont think theres much between the other 3 sides in the group but Brazil will qualify with ease.

Good post

I try to tell people that. Brazil is hardly impressive the first game.

Every time in the last third the pass is not accurate. Has been a feature of this tournament.
