Day 5: Sweden vs South Korea, Belgium vs Panama and Tunisia vs England (19H00)

Italy have been knocked out of the group stages for a reason.

In 2010 they didn't even score a goal.

Not qualifying was just the natural progression.
They did have good runs in Euro and Confederations cup.

I see no plan here at all. No linking up, no movement without the ball, no runs in behind. What are Belgiums tactics and why does Naingolan not fit it here?

Panama just can't place a pass. But they'd be pretty happy if they only lose by 1-2 goals so it's understandable.

Is it just me but has there been a huge amount of falling over, holding faces and petty free kicks given so far this World Cup? Ive seen on multiple occasions someone go down from tackle, but the ref fails to play advantage and the games have become so staccato and shit.
Seems like with VAR refs are told, or don't want to punish diver. VAR doesn't review on diving, so the tactic so far is exaggerating minimal contract in hope in VAR review it looks more impactful a foul.

I bet Lukaku is fuming at Hazard. Never looks for him

Can’t stand these whistle loving referees. If you go to ground you just get a free kick. Easy.

Belgium are the 3rd best country at football in the world according to the FIFA rankings. Let that sink in.

Unbelievable.

fecking hell the ref is blowing for everything. Didn't realise football had become a non contact sport

Lukaku is getting nothing from the left hand side. Hazard is either turning back with the ball or trying some slide rule bullocks while Lukaku is twiddling his thumbs

Look at the talent on the pitch. If they aren't motivated or underperform, it has to be the manager's fault. Unlike Argentina's players, these Belgian players have the drive and desire, so what's left is the coaching.

Even now the attack isn't as fluid as it could be despite having Lukaku, Hazard and de Bruyne on the pitch.
You contradict yourself, surely if the Belgium players have drive and desire, then manager is already doing part of his job well, to motivate the players.

In terms of attacking fluidity, I can't say I've seen it from any team in the tournament thus far, except perhaps Mexico, have all the managers under delivered?

Also 2012 Euros they failed to qualify, 2014 WC - out at the quarters. 2016 Euros, lost to Wales. So this group of players doesn't have form at progressing to the latter stages of major tournaments.

I see no plan here at all. No linking up, no movement without the ball, no runs in behind. What are Belgiums tactics and why does Naingolan not fit it here?

Nainggolan smokes and breaks rules, so Bobby pretty much dumped him. Not wise considering he could really "do a job" still rather than dragging Witsel out of China Fortune FC.

That was the worst counter I've ever seen, and I watched the Ger-Mex game yesterday

Nothing new regarding Belgium.

They're just a gallery for big names, not a team at all.

They'll win as Panama is crap, but they're not going far as usual.

This is like watching an unskilled FIFA player using a loaded team and failing to score.

Is it me or is the entire stadium filled with Panama supporters?
Latin Americans fans have outnumbered their opposition in every game but the Uruguay one. Strange. Get the feeling that Europeans were a bit wary of traveling to Russia. Expect more European fans in the knockout stages.

Why in the name of the Holy Spirit is Eden Hazard captain, in a team with Vertonghen and Alderweireld?

Italy have been knocked out of the group stages at the last two WCs for a reason.

In 2010 they didn't even score a goal.

Not qualifying was just the natural progression.
Past deeds mean little though.

Holland finished 2nd and 3rd last two world cups and look at us now.

South Korea isnt better than Italy though.

Love that Panama has shown that they aren't push overs as much as everyone and their mum in here thought. They are a decent side

At a certain point you have to stop blaming service and look at the player himself for just not getting involved. He'll always score goals but he just doesnt get involved often enough.
It's hard for him to get on the ball when Hazard and Mertens refuse to pass to him.

You contradict yourself, surely if the Belgium players have drive and desire, then manager is already doing part of his job well, to motivate the players.

They have the desire to win the world cup because individually, they are players with battle-hardened mentalities and trophy winners. But when I said they lack the motivation, I meant that their skills are not properly utilized and so they don't really seem to have the confidence of the teams which are WC favorites.

Classic Belgium, Hazard and Mertens playing for themselves, Carrasco shite, Lukaku no service, Meunier crap.

The problem with belgium current generation players is they are going for individual glory. Look at Hazard. He must learn to pass and be a team player
