Day 15: Japan vs Poland, Senegal vs Colombia, England vs Belgium, Panama vs Tunisia

gif of Batshuayi kicking the ball to the post and it boomeranging back into his face please

 I can't belive the commentators didn't comment on him smashing the ball off the post into his own face

As a England fan I would happily take a defeat. Beat Colombia then the Swiss/Swedish and we potentially have Spain in the semis but would not bet against them being knocked out. Route to final looks much better this way. Common lads!

This assumption that this England side couldn't be beaten by Colombia or hell, even Sweden/Swiss beyond that is remarkable.

I posted similar before the game and it seems not many share the opinion on here.

I don't think Columbia would be favourites against us, but I do think that people presuming that England would just breeze past them is incredibly arrogant.

I feel that the incredible ease of this group has fooled a lot of fans, and has also perhaps been to the detriment of the team...

Panama and Tunisia are like non-league teams, and then this game is a game with zero intensity, that some players perhaps want to lose.

It's been by far the easiest group of the World Cup. Other teams, in every other group have been fighting and competing properly.

It's possible that such a ludicrously easy group and playing 3 games with very little intensity will help the players with longevity etc. But it's also possible that they'll become a little complacent and find it difficult when facing a team that have had to fight through their group and are properly up for it.

Columbia, in my opinion, certainly shouldn't be underestimated. And this England side, in my opinion, are in no position to be looking further ahead than winning each match.

Not sure where you are getting some of this stuff, no one is truly underestimating Colombia at all - you'll find most are cautious about them...but people kinda want a semi final....so you either have Brazil in a QF standing in your war or Colombia in your way as the real "on paper" tests.

And even the semi candidates are weaker on that side too should the underdogs advance. It's a no lose situation really, unless they did an Iceland v2 and lost to Japan....a QF would be great. A 2nd round loss to Colombia wouldn't be seen as bad either.

England haven't won a knockout match since 2006. Chances are the next match will be their last of the world cup. I honestly do not get why you look further than that.

Exactly. No matter what you think of Colombia you have to say that they are at least decent. England haven't beaten a side of decent quality in a knockout game for donkey years. Long term? There's a good chance there won't be a long term. I just want to see us get to another QF at least.

It's all about winning matches. He wins if the team wins. The team he selected was terrible. Keep playing a winning team.

The team he played is a second team! It's irrelevant to momentum. They can go in at the end of the game and go nice one lads. An easier draw and with two winnable games we are two games left from winning the world cup.

Playing Brazil then France then Spain would be a hellish run from quarters

Loftus cheek has looked like a league 2 player.

I friend at work told me just that Belgium winning us will favour us more going into the knockout stages due to an easier fixture. Is this correct?

That piece of play out from the back is exactly what we’re (Man Utd) missing. So often we just hoof it.

I think both TAA and RLC have shown why they are not part of the normal starting XI today. Some real poor decision making in the final 3rd.

And Germany has been knocked out in group stage for the first time since 1938. It's coming home, lads
Btw I am not English, just meme-ing but I do support England.

It will undoubtedly knock any momentum the team has built.

Yeah, if only football was that easy and logical
