Day 15: Japan vs Poland, Senegal vs Colombia, England vs Belgium, Panama vs Tunisia

Rashford better as an impact sub. Dier woeful. TAA ok, Rose average can see why Southgate prefers young who can at least whip in a decent cross. Disappointed by RLC.

When Rashford came new, one thing he was good at was sticking the ball at the back of the net. Looks to have lost that touch. Needs to think less during 1v1's

He had a ridiculous conversion rate the first 4-5 months he played. It was obvious he'd never be able to keep it up (was like 2-2.5x the rate of the best strikers in the world).

Most of his finishes have been instinctive.

He's not a good 1vs1 finisher.

On the evidence of this game Southgate's first XI really is the best XI. No one making a serious claim to get into the first XI here.

Southgate has annoyed be a bit here. The momentum has been killed. If it stays like this I can definitely see Colombia beating England and Belgium spanking Japan and Gareth looking like a complete arse.
I can understand why he has done it. It's a good idea until it goes wrong.

It's weird how rashford generally has good striking technique but his finishing is pretty woeful. Like 1 on 1 with a goalkeeper I never have faith in him. Loses all composure

The team that lines up against Columbia would look nothing like this one.

Really don't see much difference bar Kane's ability to whack them in. Middling team overall.

Think Rashford would have more confidence in the first team. This team doesn’t play with anything like the confidence and it looks like it’s rubbing off on him.

It’s still arrogant. England should be grateful to even have a last 16 game it doesn’t matter who against. This is the same country that lost to Iceland. They should be trying to keep momentum.

Delph going home after this as his wife is expecting. Just what was the point in playing him then?!?

There is no excuse for that kind of miss.

Lot of the same players too. But sure, that was 2 year ago.

Yep. Question marks for rose over young but rose has been poor. Dier has been poor if compared with henderson. As much critism as sterling gets hes better for the system than rashford or vardy

The same applies to Belgium, no?

Can't believe Rashford missed that. He came onto the scene because he showed such calmness and composure in front of goal, but he's become more inconsistent in that regard in the last couple of years. Obviously he's a young player and youngsters are bound to be inconsistent, but as a striker he really should be burying more chances than he has - that 1v1 he just had was illustrative of where his game is right now.

I can’t figure out what both teams want from this match, got a feeling last 10 mins Belgium will gift England a goal or a chance to level like a penalty, but England will want to miss that too.
