Day 17: France-Argentina, Uruguay-Portugal.

World cup is slowly turning into a just fun friendly set of games, like a festival or something. Players with high earnings really have no incentive to push it hard. FIFA using World Cup as a test bench for VAR also shows how serious they consider these games.

Another good ball from Pogs to Gressman

Rojo's is going to give away another penalty soon

Very impress with Mbappe... are people sure Rashford and Martial are not far from Mbappe level?

Little surprised Argentina hasn't started throwing themselves to the ground yet at every contact near the box. Then again - they haven't been near the box much.

Poga hitting some nice long range passes now. Argentine defence was like this v Nigeria second half so not sure why there's this shock they can't handle rapid players. Nigeria just couldn't control a game like France can.

Really dont see the logic in dropping higuain/aguero here. Argentina arent Barcelona where they can play messi as a false 9 and still get him in good positions.

I would take DiMaria off now. Been complete shit

It's worth remembering that without Messi, Argentina won one of seven qualifiers. It's pretty obvious why. They are f*cking dreadful. They wouldn't even have got close to qualifying without him. They're almost shambolically bad. Messi is truly great, but one player cannot win games at the highest level single-handedly. It's totally unrealistic.

It's hard to understand how a major football nation could be so bad. But then I'm English so I suppose I should understand.

To me it's obvious Argentina do not have much of a plan for the attack.

Very impress with Mbappe... are people sure Rashford and Martial are not far from Mbappe level?

The people that know all three players do, the rest is still pretending otherwise.

Messi as false 9 is the wrong decision. He's not seeing the ball.

Argentina very poor so far
Created next to nothing

And I see Dybala's still not playing. The best national sides seem to have some of the worst managers. This game is a fine illustration of two of these. Belgium is another.
