Day 17: France-Argentina, Uruguay-Portugal.

Been trying to score a goal like this for ages. Not a single attempt was even close to this beauty...

This match is all about individual quality and guts, as both teams are terrible tactically. Let's see.

Wonderful strike. Still a weak link for them at the back though.

Mind you didn't Redcafe hero Antonio Valencia score a similar goal last season?;)
Makes me sad that people will see him as a poor player. He's not a right back, but being shunted out there.

Need to get Giroud off now. Fekir on in number 10 position and go two upfront. Can still control midfield that way.

Is it unpopular to say that Mbappe has played well for around 3 minutes? A bit like Martial tends to at times.

Edit:  your welcome French fans.

What a strike, what a game! I am happy that after boring first rounds, this WC can offer some exciting games. I hope France will win.

TBF I don't know too much about him but you can see he's a centre half playing full back when he comes up against pace. Gets turned too easily and gives away too many FKs.

Channelled his inner Rojo for that strike though!

Surely the blame is on the coach, France have one of the best squads in the WC. They have a midfield good enough to dominate Argentina. But they are playing with 10 men with giroud upfront.

And 2-2, game on!!!

Yeah France should walk over them in terms of squad quality. But Argentina is a better team (even though they seem to struggle just like us this WC).

I have a ton of other people I could quote, but I'll make my point using yours:

I never said he's been poor, all I said was that he tends to hog the ball too much and lose it as a result. Other than that I agree his half has been pretty decent, and his through balls are ridiculously good.

If being caught in possession 4 times, all of which were avoidable, in a half is hardly any at all, then I don't know what definition you guys are operating under.

Some people here seem to excuse the last one with him being up against two players... fair enough, but that was after carrying the ball for ages, and obviously heading into a cul-de-sac with few options. He had ample time and opportunity to utilise one of his team mates.

He wasn’t caught 4 times. He’s been dispossessed just twice and that’s because Giroud is not making any intelligent runs.

It started with Matuidi trying to get behind the left back, the Hernandez I think went for it, the cross was random but Pavard just whip the ball lol this is magical. It reminds me of one of the goals from Valencia.

I thought all three actions were brilliant tbh.

Great ball from Matuidi, then very well done from Hernandez to get ahead of the pressuring defender AND put in a cross with purpose; it definitely wasn't random.
