Let's all Laugh at England

Maybe we should have a referendum on the choice of anthem, if we did - im certain there would be no change.
Haven’t learned from the last one, eh?

For the record...
On St George's Day, 23 April 2010, the Commonwealth Games Council for Englandlaunched a poll to allow the public to decide which anthem would be played at the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi, India. Voters could choose between "God Save the Queen", "Jerusalem" and "Land of Hope and Glory" with the winning song being adopted as the official anthem for Team England. "Jerusalem" was declared the winner on 30 May 2010, securing 52% of the vote.[3]

Imagine if the UK did that for the World Cup...

But there is no significance in having a UK team at the WC is there? You dismiss the unified Korea team as if it’s completely irrelevant - your lack of understanding is shocking.

You realise that the IFAB consists of the four countries of the U.K. plus FIFA?

I did? That’s the 2nd time you’ve said I said something that I didn’t say.

I've always liked the English national team but reading some of the nonsense here recently has reminded me too much of why I hate my own national team so much.

So yeah: :lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:

But there is an Irish rugby team. Sport brings people together.

It works too but rugby is less complicated due to different backgrounds here (soccer traditionally more working class)

I remember being at irish soccer matches v the north and seeing serious bigotry in action by the north

Some of the plastic RA fans down south are as bad

It would be great if we could move on though and also we can barely get a decent 11 between us both right now

Talking about anthems is a bit silly. Isn't the French one about wanting to water fields with impure blood or some shit like that?

Panama players trying to score while England were celebrating:

:wenger::lol:

Who are those 3 English players? They should either be kicked out of the English team for being an embarrassment, or given medals for being the ones that really tried to win it by any means possible.

How dare you. It’s the greatest anthem on earth (and I’m not even French).

Good googling - but that’s the commonwealth games isn't it - don’t remember the English football team playing in the commonwealth games.
I was talking about the national anthem there, bud. You know... for everything that you use a national anthem for.

You said you’d bet GSTQ would win if voted on.

It’s already lost once.

But we don’t sing the national anthem for Rugby.

If I wasn’t clear, then I apologise - to be clear the vast majority of supporters would not want to sing anything different to the National
anthem prior to a football match.

A vote for the commonwealth games, where football is not even played is completely irrelevant.

Again, my comment was about changing the national anthem completely.

If it’s true the vast majority of England supporters wouldn’t want a different anthem then they deserve all the misery they get from their football team.

Oi! Don't blame us! It was your own fault for being there to witness our bigotry! Ya southern ponce!

There's probably still a big element of bigotry there, but it's not as bad as it used to be. From these parts at least the NI fan base used to be nearly entirely Protestant, but it seems people from both sides now go. I remember mates wanting to go when we were younger, but being afraid in case people would somehow know they were Catholic and they'd get a kicking.

It's far from perfect, but things aren't as bad as they used to be.

My entirely uninformed and unscientific take on how the united Ireland rugby team became a thing is simply that rugby wasn't all that popular so it went under the radar a bit. I know it's more popular now, but I don't remember people paying much attention to it back in the day. That's just my wild assumption on the whole thing. Unfortunately our combined 11 in football would still be a bit cack.

This place is like RAWK after the CL final, complete with next 4 years is our year la. All we need is our version of Babuyagu with a powerpoint presentation on how youse are moral victors or something

Fair play to the English lads that are taking this nonsense in good spirit. Bad luck tonight.

No surprise though that a few are throwing hissy fits, and wheeling out the usual diatribe about ''If you support an English club you shouldn't criticise the England team'', glory hunters, not real United fans. Some cringy stuff, hopefully it's only drunk posting and they'll regret it tomorrow.

Not bothered about going out really. Would have liked to get to the final obviously but I was just enjoying the ride. Thought we were lucky to get this far. Wanting a France win now for Pogba. Hopefully next World Cup the other home nations qualify which will give me a few more options to support.

Did that actually happen?

OMFG

Fair play to England... the players, management, fans, banter...

Heroes.

Other countries can only look with envy at the enthusiasm and support (and scale of it) that England offers a World Cup.

You’re being laughed at... nobody gives a flying feck about the English football team or their deluded fans. You’ve been the overrated laughing stock of world football for the past 52 years.

You literally had a generation of world class players in every position (bar keeper) and completely fecked it, and this World Cup, had the easiest possible route to a final you’re ever likely to have, and fecked that too. All the while crapping on about “football coming home”. England fans are literally the Liverpool fans of world football.

Perhaps if your lot didn’t take themselves so seriously you might actually get some respect.

Well played, England. You surpassed all expectations. Southgate has done a phenomenal job. Winning a World Cup these days takes time and you have a great group who will do well at the next Euros and might just win it all in 2022.

The next time England NT is doing well in major competition, people need to shut up. Only go crazy when the team is actually in the final, not QF, not SF and definitely not during the fecking group stage. Hyping your team and placing huge expectations on them will only add unnecessary pressure and make you look stupid when the team gets knocked out.

That rant aside, contrary to all the laughs and England bashing, I think They're doing really good. No one expected them to go this far so well played.

:nono: it's understandable to get carried away.

Look at Germany. Discount their appearance in the 2002 final. That team was wank and rode Ollie Kahn's coattails to the final. They pretty well started fresh with the 2006 squad. Did well but lost to a savvy Italy. Improved steadily and won it in 2014. It's a process. You have a great group of young players. You're going to win this tournament soon.

My god, i'm English and proud but you have just literally said everything I've wanted to say for weeks now, bless you sir.

I'm dead
I fecked my wife proper today.

That's all .

Kane is a genuine world class striker but between tonight and the Euro's there's huge question marks with him and his temperament. I'm not a huge fan of Lukaku but if that was him the media would be driving home the narrative about how he's a big game bottler and a flat track bully.
