I do have to laugh every time he whines about Mueller, and then asks why is no one investigating all the dodgy stuff the Dems did during the election. Isn't he in a position where he can order his own special investigation into them if he actually wanted to.

No, he is not a dictator. That's not how things work in a democracy. There has to be a basis for an investigation. You cannot have one based on the whims and fancies of an elected leader.

...as he revokes security clearances because he didn't like what was said on a talk show...

The reason he isn’t ‘ordering’ a concrete investigation into the Dems is because the whole thing will end up being a damp squib and he knows nothing of substance will be found.

This is a classic Trump diversion tactic to delegitimise an investigation into him which will likely yield some very damning verdicts. That and the possibility he’s preluding a justification to derail the investigation by possibly firing those involved.

There's no more undignified person on the planet.

If Clapper lied to Congress then they've got the power to do something about it haven't they?

He's basically admitting dereliction of duty by not doing something when someone else has done wrong.

Oh and he's a massive shitbag. He's close to being the worst human being on the planet at the minute.

I'm fully expecting Alex Jones level rhetoric from his Twitter account as president at some point. He's there for a few more years so I'll wait...

I wonder at what point twitter will finally feel obliged to close his account. If it reaches a critical point where he demands his supporters riot and forcefully ‘take back their country’ through some heavy handed means ala Erdogan then surely they’d have to feel somewhat culpable for any chaos that ensues.

That’s probably a slightly hysterical example, but I do wonder where the line is drawn for them.

It's not going to end with Mueller recommending charges and Congress doing just that and it all going smoothly.

I genuinely wouldn't be surprised if his feckwit supporters turn up armed to the hilt in Washington or start protesting in whatever 3rd world shithole town they come from and there's plenty of outbreaks of violence.

Things are so entrenched now that they're not going to accept any attempt to get rid of him, similarly if it just comes down to voting against him in 2020 he'll ramp up the rigged election shite and they'll be out in force.

Someone will end up dying, sad as it seems to predict it. It'll be utterly needless but that's how tribal it's gotten IMO.

Written at 10:13 EST - a time when most people on the east coast are busy doing their jobs.

He's doing his job too tbf. He's the social media PR guy for whoever is running this shitshow.

He sounds even more rattled in the past few days with the rhetoric being notched up in his tweets. Not a surprise considering the impending Manafort verdict and reports Cohen will be charged within the next 10 days.

Someone's going to come along and tell you this won't happen and blame you for paying too much attention to social media. Although you've probably spent less time on social media than the person accusing you, ironically.

No issues here if someone wants to be irrationally hysterical.

This is the end result of electing someone whose political expertise primilarily consisted of airing grievances and spouting conspiracy theories on Twitter. It hasn't changed even one bit despite him now becoming the most powerful man on Earth. Listen to him tell it and he's actually been taken prisoner, now heroically fighting the Angry Dems and The Deep State. It's quite pathetic by itself especially since it's just a cover for his grifting. But it's even worse that it works on a frightening number of idiots.

They would be shutting down a major source of their political ecosystem if they did, so Trump would have to break the rules in some exceptional way for it to get that bad.

One thing he does better than anyone is sell himself to a particular audience. He's mastered the art of exploiting political fears to his advantage.

He would only have pivoted if there was some overwhelming advantage that his transactional reactive brain could comprehend. The fact that he was in the process of setting up his own TV station to rival Fox News for after he lost the election (as his whole team thought would be the case) shows he never intended to pivot.

Raoul is the Gaston of the Politics forum. Never, ever backtracks, no matter how stupid it sounds. Still thinks he could have pivoted :lol::lol:

They'll do fecking nothing. They have no problem screaming their heads off and nodding to faux news but the moment they get called out they tremble and call the police. Unfortunately a young black girl's birthday party will be ransacked and a mosque will be set a light in the middle of the night. Off course the service or retail worker who isn't white with a tramp stamp is going to get it but violence on a mass scale, no. They are cowards to the point that they dare not buy more then two tiki torches in the same store.
If trump doesn't go down though after all the shit we know it's not his base I'm worried about, it's the rest of the country. To support anything about this presidency is to fail you're children and you're community. But until faux news is moderated or sued in to oblivion we will continue to have that uninformed 25% ruling this country through dirty politics.
We also need a constitutional amendment regarding voting in this country. When the majority of the Senate represents only 25% of the people we have a problem. When one party continue to get millions more votes yet the other party gain more seats we have a problem. When voting is blatantly restricted in Democratic districts we have a problem. When an antiquated election system elects the last two Republican presidents who lost a popular vote leading to millions of meaningless votes we have a problem.

The term pivot has become a bit of a meme for the politically unenlightened here. Every President transitions from being in campaign mode to governing mode. Trump chose not to because he knew it would force him to look weak to his base. Instead, he chose to double down on his cynical campaign rhetoric to preserve as much of his base as he could because he knew he needed them as the FBI/Mueller investigations were going to erode the independent support that got him elected.

Sorry but

The pivot claim was never about "transitioning to governing mode", you insisted he'd pivot to some "social democratic" position he apparently held previously!

What's the reason for it, especially when some can take up paid roles on corporate boards? One can imagine Trump wreaking havoc on twitter, outing intelligence after he leaves office.

Its not just Presidents but also a number of senior government officials in past administrations. Its generally done for institutional knowledge, where if the current admin want to bring in members from the last one to talk about a particular issue, the members of the past administration (now all civilians on the outside) are legally authorized to enter the buildings and be allowed to talk about the issues (most of which are likely highly classified).
