Mourinho tells Paul Pogba he'll never captain Manchester United again

Another player openly criticised by Mourinho in the past and heavily linked to be booted out of the club, the state of his £80m duo in Bailly and Lindelof not being good enough saved him.

Eh ? Smalling has been the most used defender by Mourinho here.

fecking shambles, the club is a complete joke at the moment.

No its not. Its just Mourinho's third year. Happens everywhere he goes. We knew about it, we were warned about it but we decided to take the risk cuz we wanted short term success. Mourinho's third year is always poisonous, he always loses the dressing room and this isnt something that was unexpected, it is a pattern and has happened many times before

Best case is we get Pogba, Mourinho and Woodward all out the door next summer. Sanchez will probably be joining them.

0 quotes. Why is this getting attention?

Also being removed from the team for Derby? Jesus Christ.

Spoiler Alert: Man Utd's most expensive and best player (debatable) out for home clash against Championship side Derby.

Just get rid of Mourinho for God's sakes. He's not justifying his salary and it's too much drama. Time he takes looking after his ego, he would be best advised to get us properly coached.

People saying the manager is always in control and should be respected, but this manager hasn't earned any respect. In addition we play such horrible football it's having an impact on how we're perceived nowadays. Why should the club continuously back this useless manager under these circumstances?

Jose is not SAF, and never will be.

So Pogba won’t be considered for the captaincy until he stops publicly undermining the manager.

Sounds sensible enough to me.

Because he’s massively underperforming?

Massively? He lost 2 games and drew 1 in the league so far. He's also 6 games into the season. Is he finished then? All that improvement in results year on year goes down the drain because of 3 bad games?

Glad to know the expectations and patience our fans is in check.

He didn't. Not at all really. That's just a myth.

Mourinho might not have explicitly stated Ed is not doing his job but he sure implied it in more ways than one. It's kind of exactly the same as Pogba is doing now. Pogba hasn't actually said anything about Mourinho explicitly.

The likes of Simon Stone are confirming it too. Seems like there's been a briefing.

We've been regressing as a side for most of 2018, its not 3 bad games.

Awesome news. May as well just feck off Lukaku while we're at it and bench the pair of them. That way Smalling can be our greatest goal threat in the team

I doubt he was going to play vs Derby anyway, lets see what happens agains West Ham

It's remarkable how Mourinho has gone from being a manager with a huge bond with his players to having constant issues with them. It cost him his last two jobs and I expect it will cost him this one.
You’d have loved Fegie then. He had plenty of fallouts with his players.

Imagine wanting a player to dominate over a manager though. I wouldn't, even if David Moyes was still our manager. I don't get it. It shouldn't matter if you despise Jose to the point you haven't slept since April 2017 and spend your evenings sitting in a dark room muttering nonsensically about Mourinho while sticking pins into an action man figure you've disturbingly stuck Jose's face to (and we know you people exist), as soon as players are above the manager, its over.

Yes for the investment given, massively.

We’re out of the title race in his 3rd season by mid September after £400+ in transfers and no clear plan or progress, I suggest you revising your expectations for this club instead.

I'm not sure how anyone can say we haven't regressed.

Our top goal scorers in the PL in 2018 is Lukaku (10), Pogba (5) and Smalling (4).

When you look at our attacking talents and they haven't managed to out score Chris Smalling you know the club is having serious issues.

I agree, we have turned into a circus act and every rival fan is enjoying our pain and misery. From ed vs Jose to Jose vs pogba to Jose vs media to Jose vs Shaw it's just becoming too much too handle.

Can’t the club do us all a favour and get rid of both manager & player?
Pogba should be gift wrapped all the way to Barcelona (for a hefty fee mind) and Moaninho should be kicked in to touch for his shite brand of football and for just being a tw@t. The state this club has got itself in.

STONE COLD! YOU WILL NEVER BE WWF CHAMPION AGAIN!!!

Mourinho sounds more and more like a cartoon character.

For once we agree. But Mourinho has made advances to fix the relationship and Pogba is having none of it.
Well we don't know them personally so it's hard to say if that's Pogba being petulant or if he sees Jose as a disingenous snake and isn't buying what he's selling, you come across people like that in life that you know are just bullshitting you and are no good, so you keep your distance, but they both should just keep their mouth shut, at least until January.

The manager has to be in control. Regardless of whether Mourinho is right for the club or not, he’s right to discipline Pogba for his comments and he had to.

I don't think it has any bearing on our likelihood of keeping Jose. A bad season and he's gone, a good one and he'll not be fired but might feck off anyway.

Pogba though. I lost patience with him a long while ago, and every time he earns himself a reprieve, he reverts back to twatting around during games and proves all over again that he will never learn. As he did yet AGAIN on saturday. The spurs game last year where he refused to do what mourinho was asking, should have been his last appearance for us. It's all well and good getting rid of mourinho. Next time Pogba decides he knows better than the manager or puts himself before his team (which is basically every 5 minutes), we're back in the same position with him, regardless of who is in charge.

Agreed. I think Pogba is gone regardless, just a matter of when. Mourinho could probably pull it from the fire if he somehow turned this fiasco into a good/great season, but after Woodward's comments in August, I'm not sure Jose would have the stomach for yet another year anyway. Not sure he still has the drive/ability to do it either. Reckon they'll both be gone by the end of May.

If it's a briefing, i wonder who or why the club has to do this. Why not quietly take the captaincy off Pogba and give it to someone else? The manager and the players should only know, no need to announce to the entire world and fuel needless speculation. This club is in shambles, we'll never see and witness this in Fergie's reign

They can't hide Pogba being dropped from the squad or stripped of the captaincy and they know Raiola will tell the world about it anyway. Better to get the story out first when you can put your own spin on it (the players all understand and support Mourinho's decision, Mourinho has the backing of the board etc etc).

Why should he be?

He looks to have lost the confidence of the board when it comes to identifying players and was publicly undermined by Woodward in August. He won't be here for 2019-20 imo.

I see a pattern developing here...

I wonder what the reaction will be if next summer Pogba is gone and Mourinho is United manager next season

I’m not United bashing. I don’t think either Jose or Pogba come out of this well. I believe times have moved on and the way Jose managed from 2002/03 to 2011 at Porto/ Chelsea & Inter doesn’t work now. As a Chelsea fan I will always have a soft spot for Jose, no question in the two times he managed us he made mistakes but I also felt there was humour in his ways, now he seems so serious and unhappy.

Up until a few years ago I have always believed that the money these players were on was obscene but if I was offered stupid money for the job I do (has never happened..damn) I’d take it. What I do expect is that the player be PROFESSIONAL. For me that’s not happening now. We know only too well at Chelsea of players downing tools, I hate my Boss at work but regardless I still alway try and do my best in my job, why do Footballers who are obscenely paid seem to think that they don’t have to abide by the rules?

SAF was a good judge and bombed Pogba out of your club, he could clearly see that despite all the talent Pogba has the potential to be a bad apple. I never quite saw Jose and Utd as a good fit two different styles so as people have already mentioned on this forum can’t see either being at OT for much longer.
The rest of your write up is good but the bolded is a myth you probably heard from somewhere. SAF did everything in his power to get Pogba to stay. Even had senior players go persuade him to change his mind in the final days not knowing he had already agreed a deal with Juve

He might not have explicitly stated Ed is not doing his job but he sure implied it in more ways than one. It's kind of exactly the same as Pogba is doing now. Pogba hasn't actually said anything about Mourinho explicitly.

Speaking to MUTV, Mourinho said: “My CEO [Ed Woodward] has known what I want for quite a long time. He knows what I want.

I know that he tries his best for me. I still have a few days to wait to see what is going to happen.”

"I would like to have two more players," he said.

"I think I am not going to have two. I think it's possible I am going to have one. It's possible.

"I gave a list to the club of five names a few months ago and I wait to see if it is possible to have one of these players.

"If it is possible it is possible, if it is not possible it is not possible.

“If it is possible, good, if it is not possible we keep fighting, working and believing in the players that we have."

Bring me one example of him saying Ed isn't doing his work ?

He's never said it. It's all implied.

Likewise, Pogba has never said Mourinho is a bad manager.

That was arguable before, but the digs after Wolves are one of the most obvious criticism said by a player towards his manager in charge.

Pogba is just saying what we're all thinking. He shouldn't do it in a public forum but then Mou has been singling out players for a while.

This will end with Mourinho gone
