It’s the midfield that needs to protect the defense better. That and the fullbacks which need upgrading.

Yes, the midfield is lacking a good DM, especially given Matic's poor run of form. We do have Herrera who, I think, is underrated by many and deserves to start more often. As for FBs, Young is playing well but he's got a limited shelf-life now. Shaw is fine at LB. Hopefully, Dalot will fit the bill but it's a big ask for an inexperienced player in a new league. A centre half is a must in January though I doubt the market will be flooded and we'll pay top whack.

Fortunately it looks like Jose agrees with you about Herrera. Think all his comments are spot on. Lets hope he plays him next game. He's a guy of great intelligence and he gets United. He would have made a great captain.

Get a restraining order on Lukaku. At least 150ft from old trafford and anywhere our team goes

Thought draw would have been a fair result but a very good win in the end.

We look like a poorly coached team with a negative mindset until we go a goal down. Then plan goes out the window and we look like a team with some potential for short spells.

Ander must be very pleased to hear what Jose said about him !

This is what I like about Jose ..no black and white ..sometimes it gets him into trouble but that is what he is !! He tells what his mind thinks ! Hope our players are tough enough to take that if he doesn't like thier performances !

Jose always wanted to be at UTD from his Porto days and if he leaves club without winning PL, I am sure he feels incomplete irrespective of his previous achievements! Wish he gets atleast one of either PL or CL

Three clear chances need to be buried, and we’d be coasting... Rashford, Lingard and Herrera.

Matic is really slow. Entire midfield three are slow to the ball.

We seem to finally be forming an identity with Pogba playing just behind the striker in a 4-4-2 and with license to float around and create.

Really lacking a Roy Keene like personality to get us mentally prepared... we start so poorly. Kudos to the team for turning it around in the 30th minute or so...

Just finish watching the game. Almost cut my balls for that Rashford/Pogba miss.

fecking great result in the end. A draw would have been fair for sure, they played really good.

Why it's so hard for us to play positive football? i don't know, but i welcome the 3 points. The boys showed some courage (as usual when we are down in the scoreboard).

Matic needs a few games on the bench and recover form, he looks busted up. Might have escaped from the geriatric.

Great win in a difficult match. 10 points out of 12 in last 4 games.

Could have been 12 out of 12 ..That Chelsea result still hurts

Good thing is some big games coming up and I always feel more confident against big teams. So bring it on !

Defensively awful in the first half, but we had some really nice runs of play throughout (particularly when players looked to bypass one level of play and hit it straight into the forwards, with third-man runners peeling off looking for knockdowns and pass-backs; and when we looked to combine in one-twos out on the wing). Great to see Martial continue his rich vein of goalscoring form.

Funny how a lot of people I’ve spoken to play down our win as “should be winning anyway”, yet we’re gushing about Bournemouth before the match.

Bad first 30, but grew into it, fecking come onnnnnnnn lads!!!:devil::devil::devil:

After that 2nd half display we really deserved the win. Were really good in the 2nd. Not so much in 1st but we got hold of the game after we scored.
Really pleased for all the players and the manager.

At least we've got the 3 points and showed the balls for a comeback.

4th spot remains the only goal left.

Really. No cup runs then.
Top 4 should still be the minimum target. Long way to go still.

Watching this interview, Jose is a very, very brilliant tactician and it is obvious he does not set the team up to play badly or defensively in the first half. The interview also shows he is trying to change as a manager. I really hope he turns things around at United and stays for a while.

It's as if people think Jose purposely tells the squad to lay down then pick it up when they go down.

Good ding dong match. Even when we were on top you still broke away occasionally and, in fact, scored from one of those breakaways which seemed to give you confidence and get you into the game.

In contrast when you were on top and we broke away we missed the chances. A shame from our point of view!

For me, the differences between the sides on the day were twofold.

1. The bench. Your subs came on and had a huge postive impact. Ours didn't. Then comparing Dan Gosling to Ander Herrera is a little cruel! Maybe if we had that kind of quality to bring on then it could have been different.

2. The ref not booking any of your players but racing to get the card out for ours. How did Shaw get away without a booking in the first half? It was a textbook definition of a yellow card for stopping a promising breakaway but for some reason he got given another chance. Supposition maybe but I'd say he would have had to play a much more wary game against our frontline if he was on a booking. In fact, I know we would have targeted him with a deliberate ploy of wingers running at him to give him decisions to make time and again. Rankles a bit that he was able to have a big impact on the game after in contrast with Lerma getting an immediate yellow without any warning earlyish in the second half and thereafter his impact on the game disappeared. In fact, I almost can't remember him involved after that.

Still, I shan't complain too much. It was fun even if the finish was a real sickener and sometimes, that's football.

I'd still rather go toe-to-toe and try to out-football the top teams than completely shut up shop for 90 minutes in those games. Sure, it may not bring as many points as a completely negative tactic but when it works it's a beautiful thing to behold and I think instills belief in the players that the manager is backing them to compete like that which carries through to the rest of the season.

That's harsh. :(

He's a good player and will no doubt be back to form soon. We'll need him this season. Let's support all of our players. The team is best when everyone is in form and competing for positions.

I really want him to roar back tbh. My comment was mostly tongue in cheek. It just has been so hard to watch him perpetually fail to perform fundamental football skills in the past few months. An in form Lukaku adds a whole new level to our attacking play.

Thought pogba honestly have everything today, he kept going and going fair play to him, the 2nd goal was because of his good play.

Martial grows in confidence each game and looked good again and very happy for rash to score.

I'm assuming that even the people who love exciting attacking games realize we'd better pick another formation for next week.

Also, did we win even a single header today? Looked like we missed every one by several feet.

Lukaku not playing has improved our play.

Matic is the next one who needs to removed from the starting line up.

Oddly enough, 2 of the 4 players Jose has sworn by for most of his tenure here. (Valencia and Young the others). The sooner Matic is out and the MF is picked between Pogba, Ander, Fred, and Perreira, the better.

2nd Half i thought we were very good, good fast one touch passing, Bournemouth away is not an easy game these days.

But still missing too many chances, like the everton game mistake for the penalty and then right at the end to make it 3 1 martial missed.

If we get more clinical we will pick up a lot more points rashford again i really don't rate him or lukaku they miss too many.

Agreed.
Though I want him to win both the PL AND CL with us.

Good win. On another note that David Brooks looks like he can be a real player He probably needs a year or two more playing consistently and maybe even in a team a ltb better and more prestigous than Bournemouth. He was impressive today though, and did look at the same level as Rashford for example.
Was he that blonde bloke?? Really impressed with his skill and overall play.

The player ratings in the MEN are interesting...

David de Gea

Started solidly but got lucky when he misjudged what appeared to be a harmless Adam Smith cross that rolled past the upright. 6

Ashley Young

His inconsistency continued as Bournemouth's pace breached the United full-back. Tried to gee up teammates. 3

Chris Smalling

It was the archetypal Smalling performance from the moment he haphazardly swept at thin air. Seemed as though he and Victor Lindelof spoke different languages. 4

Victor Lindelof

Looked scared on an afternoon of regression. Supposedly United's best technical player, he seemed to find spectators more often than teammates. 5

Luke Shaw

Junior Stanislas took advantage of his ball-watching to assist Callum Wilson. A shaky performance from the left-back but improved in second half. 6

Nemanja Matic

Gave the impression a deflated ball could roll past him. Has been out of sorts for months and a demotion is overdue. Could only get better in second-half. 3

Paul Pogba

Beckoned teammates to press but was short of volunteers. Ineffective on the ball at times and not as energetic as he could have been. 6

Fred

Pep Guardiola cannot have seriously considered signing him, could he? The £52million misfit is still yet to produce an acceptable performance. This was his poorest. 1

Juan Mata

Caught out for Wilson's goal by ball-watching. Far too pedestrian with the ball in attack as Bournemouth overwhelmed United at the opposite end. 3

Anthony Martial

Made it five Premier League goals in four in the only saving grace of United's horrendous half of football. 6

Alexis Sanchez

Salvaged a woeful first-half by creating Martial's equaliser. Was a downgrade on Marcus Rashford and Mourinho may recall Romelu Lukaku once he regains fitness. 5

Subs

Ander Herrera

Improved United. 7

Marcus Rashford

Atoned with his goal. Improved United. 7

Jesse Lingard

Wasted a great chance. 5

This is just plain weird.

No one who started got higher than 6?

We did not deserve that opening goal at all  The hallmark of a top team though, party all night and then cram at election time and come out with a top mark. Hopefully we can do it more often
