If offered just-turned 20 year old Ronaldo & 20 year old Mbappe side by side, without knowing what Ronaldo would go on to achieve, I'd probably go for the latter.

According to Wikipedia he scored 5 goals for Sporting - 2002/03, and 21 for Utd from season 03/04, 04/05 and 05/06. So by the time he was 20 he scored less than 30 goals at club level

Yes, it's different. One thing to keep in mind is his first season at PSG he was mainly a supplier for Cavani and Neymar but after you win a world cup you sort of want to become the main man, which alongside Neymar he is currently for PSG in goals. Without this mess going on in France, he'd probably have some more but so far there's 2 or 3 games they need to make up in March.

Great stats for his age. Will surely go on to be one of the greats of his generation if he continues progressing the way he is.
The other thing to remember is that Mbappe, as talented as he is, has amassed these appearances and goals in sides that are easier to get into and against lesser opposition.
The likes of Messi and Ronaldo didn't have as 'easy' an early trajectory to their careers in comparison.

These statistics are misleading, mainly the Ronaldo and Messi statistics.
Ronaldo played as a right midfielder in his teenage years at United. He wasn’t a striker. Mbappe plays in a front 3 as a striker, so he is obviously going to have more goals, and the league is weaker.
Messi was competing for his place with Eto, Henry and Ronaldinho, Mbappe would never start ahead of them 3.
This Lad has everything to be a great. With that being said teenage Ronaldo and Messi were better then them but Mbappe is the first true teenage sensation since them.
Yes Mbappe is a generational talent but lets not get carried away with the Messi and Ronaldo comparisons. France would've won the world cup without him as is the quality of their squad compared to their rivals and he's putting up those goal numbers in a pub league.

Messi was a starter for Barcelona since the 05/06 season, only injuries stopped him. By the time they signed Henry in '07, Henry was effectively Messi's backup. And Mbappé is miles better than Henry was by thenWould they now? Because Mbappé wasn't some bit part player on that team. He was their best player in 2 of their 4 KO games and had a massive impact on their victory. He was either their third best player at worst

Or maybe i watched Henry in barcelona. He was nowhere near the player he was at arsenal. Barcelona got him on a free on the heels of losing the league in dramatic fashion and going out to Liverpool in CL, with Dinho showing signs of losing competitive spirit(read: showing up late and drunk for training sessions) and Eto'o starting to get on everyone's nerves. They signed him because they could, not because they needed him. He was comfortably the worse player among the 4* and it wasn't close

World class footballer, one of the top 3 forwards in the world today for me. Not because of some mythical potential either. Simply because of what he’s likely to do in any given football match if played tomorrow, let alone in 5 years or whenever the experts have decided his peak will be. Right now, he’s that good. If my team had to play a match this evening, I’d rather they play against Cristiano Ronaldo than him.
Off the bench more often than not... the fact he was injured was a big part of that but it’s not true that he was a guaranteed started as long as he was fit.
When he was a teenager though, by the time Henry was there Messi was no longer a teenager.

Griezmann is not even close to being twice the player Mbappé is. He may have a better argument of being half the player though. I can only think Mbappé is being discriminated against due to age. No matter what an 18 year old does on the pitch, there will always be a large portion of fans who cannot compute that he’s the best. It’s always ‘he can become’. What does Mbappé need to do to catch up to Griezmann, except become older? Over the last 18-24 months, which is the only sample size relevant in this conversation, there’s no chance at all that Griezmann has been as good a footballer than Mbappé, let alone ‘twice as good’.
As for Varane and Pogba, they are obviously not forwards, and have a good shout in being in the top 3 in the world in their own positions too.
people always like to downplay Ronaldo's early years at United when it was clear he was a top talent. He scored more goals in his 1st 2 and 3 seasons in England than Raheem Sterling did, yet we are told he had no end product. I think people just did not like him

Hazard takes us to pieces nearly every time we play against him, personally would take playing against Mbappe over him any day.
For the past 18/24 months Griezmann has been comfortably better than Mbappe. It has nothing to do with their age. Last season Mbappe was clearly third best out of the PSG front 3... everyone who’s watched PSG regularly will know that.
Meanwhile Griezmann is playing at Hazard or Neymar levels, probably better than both in the past 18/24 months.
People like talking about teenage Ronaldo as if he was a worse version of what Dembele currently is... at 18 he had every single top team in the world after him willing to pay big money, after barely turning 19 he was our best forward in Euro 2004 in a team with the likes of Figo, Rui Costa and Deco at his absolute best. Everyone was expecting him to become the best player in the world then.
Halfway through the 2005/06 season he had already become one of the best in the world, certainly as close to the top as Mbappe is now.
To me it's a great sign that people are seriously judging Mbappé in comparison to all time greats.

Since January 2018, M'bappé could be viewed as the most performing player given the neymar's injury and the Cavani's decline. In any case, Cavani is clearly the 3rd at the moment.
In all seriousness, I prefer Diaby to Cavani in that front three, he has a better relationship with Mbappé and Neymar, they are on the same wavelength. Do you think that it's a long term thing or just a novelty?
What's special about him is that he has an incredible end product even at such a young age. Not even the Brazilian Ronaldo managed to score that amount of goals. Messi was also good for a goal as a U18 player but "only" started scoring these insane amount of goals at 19/20. Mbappe does so since he is 17 and this is truly unique.
Yet I think that this blinds people a little bit. They are like "wow, if he's already scoring that much how many will he score when he's fully developed?" and I think this is where they are wrong. In contrast to the overwhelming amount, probably even all, prodigiesat his age before him, he already made that step. He's no young player who has incredible skills but fails to get the most out of it (like exemplarily Cristiano when he arrived at United), he's already utilizing his capabilities almost perfectly and in order to enhance his level, he has to develop new tools. But IMO, this enhancement will not consist of "even more goals" but improvement of his overall influence on a game. He's already compared to players that were respectively are real forces of nature in their prime, like Messi, the Ronaldos and Neymar, and displayed this potential since day one and I can't say the same for Mbappe. His dribbling is very good and his passing is quite fine but in these areas he's not even nearly as good as the players mentioned above. That is why I currently can't see him completely dominating strong opponents through anything else but pace.

Stop with the Messi/CR7 comparisons. The stats do prove Mbappe is better than these two at 20 but guess what? R9 and Michael Owen were better players at 19-20 but their careers didn't last as long as everyone else.

Admittedly I don't watch La Liga, but what makes Griezmann so amazingly fantastic? He never really impresses me in the CL. Though I can't watch Atletico for more than 30 seconds at a time without my eyes bleeding out of my sockets, so that might be the problem.
