I would give Ole 2 years, simply because every game currently is nice to watch. We gave Vangel 2 yrs for that slow passing sleepy and frustrating wait a millenia to pass into the box and another millenia for trying a shoot kind of football and Maureen 2.5 years for his neutralize opposition football.
What do you mean? Mourinho was the total embodiment of United values. Why do you think Gary was so adamant on keeping him around?

Funny you say that since top 4 is in our hands now factually speaking as we’re 2 points behind Arsenal and Chelsea if we win our game in hand since we still have to play the both.
Ole's still at a distinct disadvantage though, which isn't his fault. We've made up ground because we've been consistently picking up points while Chelsea and Arsenal have been dropping them, and even now we're still behind. There'll also be times when we drop points while Chelsea and Arsenal pull ahead. Particularly Chelsea if they've truly resolved their striker problem for now.
@redDNA Couldn't hit the like button, but here is a like anyway. I do NOT understand the FM generation. We cant win everything, but we should always try. We will probably lose a few before the season is over, draw some and win some. But we will be enjoyable to watch! I will look forward to every game, instead of finding excuses not to watch the games. I will be angry, mad and sad when we lose, but I will enjoy it. Love that Ole is at the wheel, we will see when the season is over whether or not he remains here. I for one hope so.

The bigger issue was that we were underperforming and the immediate task was to turn that around which Ole has done. But the next step has to be to make us competitive with City, Liverpool, Barcelona, Madrid etc on a regular basis and not just putting out fires - he has done everything that's asked of him so far but we still have yet to see how he recruits players etc. The end of the season will be an interesting time - if he gets the job though it will have meant we had an exceptional end of the season!

Well, considering the opposition we've played those stats could be a tad misleading. Let's see how we fare after February.
It's more than half a season, so not sure how it's misleading as we had more shots on target since start of the league.
Many of those teams Jose led United often struggled. He couldn't motivate the team at all for these types of games and it cost us dearly. We've seen in a short period of time now that Ole can beat the top sides and also get results against relegation battlers also.
I'm still leaning towards a Poch appointment, but if Ole keeps this kind of level of performance up we simply can't look past him.
Really hard to tell how much of this is a response to Jose's poor management or Ole's 'good feel' factor. It's a honeymoon period with hope than expectation of finishing top four or a run in any of the cups. I think we'll know more at the end of Feb than at the end of the season. Really big month....
I feel it is a bit of a honeymoon period still. I don't want to take anything away from him, but we need to see how we settle over the past 2 months. Or even better, till end of the season.

Don't shoot me for saying this but, I still have major doubts about Ole being good enough in the longer run to coach United. It's been great what he's done since Christmas but when it comes to building his own team at this level, his tactics etc I'm not convinced.
I'm on the fence, if we had to make a decision now I would go with Ole, but as we don't I'm going to remain on the fence until end of march whether we win all the games or lose them all.
He has built his own teams at Molde, people may say that's the only the Norwegian league but it is not like he had the Man Utd squad in the Norwegian league.
He isn't going to prove he can build his own team and tactics at this level before the end of the season, so is there nothing he can do for you to show that he should get the job? Who is your pick for the job?
I think the PSG game will be the key. This will be his first match where the prospect of winning one of the two top tier trophies is on the line.

Ole's brief tenure here has already shown us a few things; he has quickly grasped his key players' strengths and weaknesses, he understands their best positions and roles, and he knows how to set his team up to play to their strengths while exploiting the opposition's flaws to a reasonable degree. He is a good motivator, and clearly has a clarity on what the 'United Way' should be. The Arsenal game convinced me he understands his tactical responsibilities, and I'm sure we're gonna have more than a few opportunities against their defence.
I don't know if we'll drop points tonight, but I'm fairly confident Ole won't be 'exposed' at any point. It's not a binary choice between him being SAF Mk II or Tony Adams, for fecks sake. This whole narrative of him being some sort of an imposter who will be 'found out' is just nonsense. He may or may not be a great manager, but he's definitely no clueless novice.
We should be looking for more organic growth in the way we play, and signs of improvement on the pitch. Of course, I'm hoping for three points, but it's ridiculous to build up every other game into a 'make or break' affair if we don't win. Ole has been a victim of his own success in some ways, starting off with a purple patch which set expectations unreasonably high.

@Gandalf Greyhame, I't been nine games so I think it's wise to not jump the gun. Looking at Ole I'm just not sure he's good enough at this level, building his own team and how his tactics will work.
PSG, Liverpool and City are the games I'm interested to see how Ole does. I'm not expecting wins as I don't personally think we have the squad depth to do so but I'm staying on the fence until then. Something a lot of people overlook is that there's no guarantee Poch or anyone else would be doing a better job currently so I would absolutely love for him to earn the job.
I'm saying the same thing, it's too early to jump any gun. If your stance is to say 9 games are too early to say he should be our next manager, you should also agree that 9 games are too early to say that he's not good enough.
Its definitely too early to have any opinion yet but I think a lot of posters (myself included) feel like we've seen these "false dawns" before and are trying to manage expectations I guess. However you are right, there's no need for the negativity, we are playing some great football and Ole is like a breath of fresh air.

Laird is coming back from injury and looks a decent prospect. Although we have 5 full backs currently, only Shaw is what I'd consider a '1st teamer' and with such a physicality demanding role, he may get minutes
Question mark on whether we will see him or any of the other top prospects (Grenwood, Garner, Chong, Gomes) much this season though. Ole has spoke about the United heritage of youth, but whether he implements it is another question. After a promising start of having youngsters train with the 1st team, a few mins over a couple of games, plus giving Perreira a start, he has not shown any meaningful action in recent weeks that he will put faith in our talented prospects.
Feb is a key monh given the fixture congestion and our main weakness on the attacking right flank. It would be several black marks if continues to play an out of position and ineffectual Mata there as the rotation option

I feel the same. He's too late in making changes and whilst some might say who could come off especially in midfield, but we can't go all season playing them 3 all season. I think that's why we looked tired...
