Is Ole a good appointment?

I love how simple he is making it look. He has good players and he knows that attacking football brings success in this league, at this stage there is no need to overthink it. Giving the players to platform to show their abilities and creating an atmosphere of optimism and encouragement.

CL will be a different test of his tactical abilities. PSG are beatable, plenty of talent but no contest in their league does not prepare them for the CL. Build bad habits and win on weight of talent, rarely mentally tested.
 
Essentially he is our Zidane. May not be considered a tactical genius or have some profound philosophy like a Guardiola but with the right group of players at the right club, will command respect, manage the players well, get them playing their best football and thus get results. The fact he is so United through and through means there are much more positives than negatives to his appointment
 
Di Matteo played 11, won 5, drew 3 and lost 3 in his time as caretaker manager in the league. So he got 18 points in eleven matches.

Ole has played 9, won 8 and drawn 1. He's got 25 points in only nine matches.

You can't compare the two just because Di Matteo went on the flukiest cup run in history.

Ole is contructing a team that puts in consistent performances. That puts him a level above Di Matteo as a squad builder. They're playing out two very different stories.

No doubt Poch has done some great transfers like Eriksen, Alderwereid and Verthongen, but hes been very fortunate having Kane and Alli come through under his reign. The former is probably the best striker in the PL right now and the latter is probably the most valuable (except Pogba). Poch has managed to assemble a very good team on a small budget, but he has not won anything yet which is what concerns me.

Poch managing to build a great squad does not mean he will take us to glory and win trophies. In fact, having Ranieri outfox him (pun intended) in 2015/16 is actually pretty damning imo since all the other top clubs were awful that season.

Not to downplay what Di Matteo did but the Chelsea dressing room had leaders like Terry, Drogba, Czech, Lampard and so on. Much different coming in to lead a young team with no identity.
 
The idea of keeping him is more and more convincing but we've still got three months to make the call and we should use that time.

My view is that if we can get Pochettino, someone who's taken a second-tier squad into the CL on multiple occasions, we should do it. But if he's not available we should go with OGS. There are no other candidates for me.
 
Can't believe some people are even considering bringing in a new manager this summer.

He is the man for the job and he's proving it every game.

Very interested to see how the next month goes - I think it will weight heavily on the board's collective mind when they come to make the big decision in May/June.
 
Hope we don't just judge him on the upcoming big games. Losing to PSG or Liverpool shouldn't change all that much considering everyone considered them to be way ahead of us just a couple of months ago. I do worry there will be an overreaction after we lose a couple of games.

Of course there will be a overreaction. There's already an overreaction when he puts Mata and Lukaku in the team, let alone when we eventually lose a game.

Jose: 26 points from 17 games

It may have been pointed out already, but is worth repeating :)

However it goes from here on in, it's still basically Jose's - and LVG's - team. Ole can't be judged too negatively until he's bought players, as his motivational skills are near perfect. Remains to be seen how he copes tactically as to a degree, he's still trying out players, but at least we do seem to have a reasonably settled eleven now, and a strong bench.

Mata was good today, not sure why you think he was our worst player. His stats back that up too - 2 key passes (the joint most of any player today) and 96% pass accuracy, best of any player.

I'm shocked anyone would want anyone else to come in. We've just had some highly rated managers come in here and make a mess of things. Our form is the best in the league. We play good football and get the subsequent results despite glaring holes in our squad.We've also seen managers with little experience come in and achieve amazing results at other clubs.

I presume hiring someone else would be upgrading, well how do you upgrade from what we have now? ask yourselves if you think another manager would be getting better results. Why or how?

IMO the only improvements I can see us making is signing better players. So put an end to this manager search and give gods only son the material he needs to lead us back to the promise land. That sounds like a better plan that having some manager come in here and convince us no one can play football at his club and that he needs half a billion to reach top 4.
 
I think the club are doing the right thing by not rushing into offering him a deal. Just because the current paradigm is working so well, there is no point in disrupting that.

However, I would love him to be given the full time job. There are many more qualified and experienced coaches out there such as Poch, but it is not necessarily about going for the best CV but going for the right fit and so far Ole with Phelan is proving to be the perfect fit.
 
It's a win-win situation for the club. Ole is more than happy to have a long interim stint, we have time to evaluate him. Absolutely no need to tie him down before the end of the season.
 
How much in the shite could we have been in when he took over with Phelan? The team have come together, the fans are happy again. Let them carry on and do the job full time. No brainier for me.

Do you have any stats to show how he performed the function of an attacking right player? Because I didn't see much of it being done today

I doubt Pochettino buys players at Spurs, anyway both Vertoghen (2012) and Eriksen (2013) were there before Poch (2014).

Even though Ole has done well so far, the stars has aligned perfectly so far from him. He has not been plagued with any crucial injuries, Mourinho did so much damage to team morale, that our players were hungry for a different/positive approach, he has had an easy early fixtures, he came in when there was not any pressure for him to succeed, he established a team with hidden potential that cost upward of £300m plus and so on. Furthermore, with Neymar potentially out of the champions league tie against us, that give him a great chance to add beaten PSG on his cv. Could you imagine if United went into this tie without Pogba? I believe if he does remain, his real test will come next season, when the pressure will be on him to win the title and further establish his own vision onto this United team. However, their are still some test that needs to be conducted this season to see whether he is the right man for the job.

You sound like Ince, attributing our dramatic change in form solely to a morale boost. That's is frankly a ridiculous notion. Take the game against Fulham. The two goals in the first half are representative of the way Ole has changed our approach to games.

The first goal was a result of Ole getting the team to press higher up the pitch, which has been evident since game one. Herrera won the ball near the opposition's penalty box, released Martial who found Pogba (who was given the encouragement to drive forward by Ole), and Pogba finds the net.

The second goal came from a fast break, which under Ole we have dramatically changed from the team with the least breaks to the team with the most counter attacks in the league.

Heck, Ole even managed to improve our much maligned defence.

As good as Poch may be, he has won nothing in his career. Don't speak as if Ole has had zero achievements prior to his current Utd stint. He won the league with a mid table club in Norway. Sometimes football is as much about finding the right fit as it is about finding the best manager or player. Ole has thus far fitted into Utd like a glove. There is no guarantee Poch will. The pressure of managing utd is significantly different from that of spurs. Poch will not get away from saying that"winning cups are only good for ego" in Utd.
