The kind of mediocrity we’ve tolerated from both managers and players alike far surpasses what they would get at other clubs.I have absolutely no problem with people groaning when they see a player on 250k a week let the ball bounce in front of him rather than try and head it on for an on running team mate. Or who tries to trap the ball and ends up slicing it out of play. Or who has an obsession with step-overs but leaves the ball behind every single time he tries them. Or just generally looking like a reluctant stand-in for a pub team whether the ball is near him or not.

I know right? We've had 6 years of pure rubbish. I watched bottom of league clashes and felt they played better football than us many, many times.
Which other supposed top club claps off Moyes whilst he's breaking every negative record in sight after winning the league the season before? We've clapped off him, LVG who bored us to tears and Mourinho who tried to turn the fans against our best players...
Real' fans jeered Ronaldo after a few games ffs! They had the white handkerchiefs out for Lopetegui after a few games too! Barca fans have the hankies out after losing 2 games in a row! Etc, etc, etc...
We go years without showing discontent!

Chelsea need a striker no? Higuaín is just a loan and he’s probably already missing Italian cuisine so Chelsea seems like a good place to dump Lukaku
And this hasn't been for a short spell of bad form. It's not like he's had one bad game and everyone has turned on him.
He's been hopeless all season long. The away game to Arsenal is the only game I think he's played well in.
Double standards existing in football shouldn’t be shocking or worth registering to anyone. I mean, good players being given more leniency than shit players is just how the game goes. Repeat offenders will obviously attract more criticism, and when it comes to a bad touch Lukaku is the final boss
Worst fans? What a joke. Our fans border on delusion (in my opinion) with how supportive they can be as a base. It's actually one of the oddities I find about united fans as a collective. We're aggressively supportive of managers and players through all kinds of thick.

So our fans are the worst because they laughed at some memes for a player who only joined us last season and after he leaves will have zero connection with the club, and so far has done nothing remarkable here to remember him for ?

We have seen it with Nani and Fellaini getting booed by their own fans.
Martial fans and Rashford fans hating on their lovechilds rival and none being objective.

Its isnt nitpicking every little touch and mistake he makes. You could make gifs of every player in history and make them look like a clueless fool if you wanted, but that is not what happening here. Those gifs are are just examples of how he messes up the most basic things like pressing, touches and bringing down high balls. Him getting slated by the majority of the fanbase is not some organized hate campaign, it just so happens that we watch the games and see the same things. Why he is seemingly at the end of more vitriol than others has a couple of reasons:
1) Hes only been here a year and a half. If he was a club legend then people would be a lot more patient with him. Rooney also got a lot of shit his last years and hes our top goal scorer of all time
2) He was bloody expensive and is on big wages. Hes not some young prospect, hes supposed to be in his best years so fans rightly expect him to perform at a high level
3) He has talked a lot about mental fortitude and hard work in interviews and does not seem to follow his own advice at all
4) This is not his fault though, but he got wildly preferential treatment from Mouhrino over Rashford/Martial, which is a surefire way to piss off fans
5) Almost every other player has risen a level or two after Ole took over, where as he sticks out like a sore thumb and it makes his poor form very noticeable in a team that otherwise is on fire
6) The worst one though is his perceived lack of effort. Poor performances is one thing, but when you dont even looked arsed to put in the work your team mates do its the fastest way to get the fans against you
Adding to all of this, the club and the fans has had some very lean years in terms of both silverware and performances so most fans are understandably a bit on edge and has very low tolerance for under performing players. If this was the Ferige years and we were swimming in silverware he would not get as much hate i recon, but we are now in a situation where we are trying to claw ourselves back to the top and we have no room for passengers

Unfortunately they're only available for the CL and via Opta if you pay for them.
However in the CL he's running at around 9km per game which along with Martial Is significantly lower than any other attacker to the tune of 10%+
I also read an article the season prior to us signing Lukaku that showed him as the forward with the least distance covered in the league. I believe again he was around the 9km average mark, compared with most around 10.5km. The record this season for comparison is 13.7km covered.
It probably doesn't sound a lot but 10-15% at the top level can be the difference between a good game and an awful one. Disappointingly he's factually a very, very lazy player; irrespective of people trying to silence that by crying "racist".
Literally no other club in the world would give David Moyes a standing ovation after that banner, zero.

There’s definitely a racial stereotype of black players that is prevalent in English football, the ‘big unit, machine, hardworking, beastly’ one, but ‘lazy’ doesn’t apply, especially at United. We didn’t call even Kleberson lazy, Djemba twins lazy, Nani lazy (inconsistent and defensively suspect, yes, many did), or Ashley Young, or Valencia, or Rio, or Evra (even when he stopped tracking back as his stamina declined with age).
If 2/3 of the fan base (a conservative estimate) agree that Lukaku is lazy, then maybe he is, both with the naked eyes and statistics. Call it ‘less active’ if that goes down easier, but the description has nothing to do with racial stereotypes. We used to pull our hairs out over Berbatov too.

To me a scapegoat is someone who takes the brunt of the blame for no real reason when we lose. We are wining at the moment and these gifs are still appearing, each week Lukaku gives us more gems where a ball has gone under him or he’s let it bounce and mistimed it, every week this happens! He’s not being used as a scapegoat, it’s just being pointed out how shit is technical skill is at the moment.
In fact it’s become more of a joke and accepted these days if anything because it’s not surprising people when it happens anymore but it’s not really costing us the match.

Don't know how bad they were elsewhere in the world but the Kagawa FC in Thailand made me stop caring about him after the 2-2 draw with Spurs in 2013.
He still did a lot of bad things in the game, but he did have two very nice assists.
That's because Lukaku, despite size and width, is not so agressive as Fellaini. Fellaini would go all in even if it meant to wound his head, which actually happened a few times.
From watching that video, I still dont understand the chance against Spurs. Why is he off-balance/ falling over when taking the shot. The bit to take it around the keeper was done well, he wasnt stretching, and yet hes on his arse when hes taken the shot and it goes wide.
He missed quite a lot of one on one chances this season at key moments:
Vs Spurs at 0-0 (we lost 3nil)
Vs Brighton at 0-0 (we 3-2)
vs Leicester (though we won so it didnt matter, but given it was the first game, who knows what his confidence would be like if he had scored that).
Vs Derby (think it was at 1-0 but we went out anyway)
His confidence must be at an all time low and its affecting him. What annoys me though is how hes reacting to it. It would be one thing if hes busting a gut, trying to make things happen and its not working out, but hes not even giving that.
I don't know about you, but I do think top club fans must demand exigency. We have a name to defend, there's no space for slacking.
If the player starts to fail to deliver end product for several games in a row, the fans will go themselves talk to the manager in the training ground to ask why is he playing if he's off-form. I guess in UK this doesn't happen as it should.

We also have some of the most arrogant and self-righteous fans in football. Fans who make an effort to belittle others who have anything negative to say, fans who take glee in going against the general consensus simply to prove they are better fans. The Ferguson era made some of our fans believe we were a special club above all others, that we operated on a higher level and were exempt from things every other club done, such as booing players.
There's nothing wrong with booing a player. It's a fecking boo to voice displeasure at a performance, it's not bullying or abuse or violence. Show some perspective for crying out loud. There's nothing wrong with being criticial of our players, because I'll tell you something the Ferguson era taught me; the standards at Manchester United are sky high, and accepting mediocrity, and lazy players should never be tolerated. That to me is more important than getting your knickers in a twist about criticising Lukaku for being shite. Get your priorities in order and start concerning yourself about the fact we have a £75m striker who is as useful as a paperweight, instead of desperately trying to belittle other people for discussing it in his player performance thread.

I agree with all that you have said except for Fellaini being a scapegoat because he always was. Unfairly treated time and time again.
He was booed once and that's about it. The club itself was bending over backwards to keep him this summer, for the sake of the prick who was in charge. He made good money, he got plenty of opportunities to play for a big club - he wasn't "unfairly treated time and time again".
Some people just like throwing out the race card at any oppurtunity and try to create an issue where there is none. It detracts from where there are actual acts of racism (like that poor lad Koubially getting grief). If they want to use cards, play Gwent.
I've seen some minor improvement from Lukaku in recent games, but the standards have been consistency low all season. The very minimum he can do is be fit enough/ be willing enough to move for The ball. His performance v Valencia was the worst I saw in that regard, completely unacceptable and we have got more movement out if a British Museum statue.
It's on him at the moment and he is unfortunately playing himself out of the club

He was unfairly treated time and time again by fans and was constantly a scapegoat for bad team performances. Never given the appropriate credit even when he played well because he was always a figure of fun because he wasn't so easy on the eye.

It's not surprising to me either. People are projecting their hate for Mourinho on Lukaku, because he was his favorite. Players like Rashford and Martial were mistreated by Mourinho and held back from starting because of his preferential treatment of Lukaku. I'm glad that someone actually acknowledges that this is a factor. Add in the fact that there are quite a few childish posters on here and you get a trainwreck of a thread instead of intelligent disscusion.
Don't get me wrong, Lukaku has been terrible and is rightfully criticised. I really have no idea how he has turned from a top striker in the PL to what he is now. Although the over the top and out of line stuff like the petulant name calling and ridicule being thrown at him stems from what I said above, imo. No player deserves this kind of abuse from their own fans.
This is what I don't get. Even scapegoating would be understandable if we were doing badly. But we have won 9 out of 10 and people still need something to moan about.
