Champions League Round of 16 (12th Feb - 13th Mar)

With him being such a foul machine in the PL and never getting punished for it, that was so satisfying to see Fernandinho penalized there.

I can't help but imagine what Mbappe would do to both Atletico's and Juventus' centre backs. They wouldn't get near him and would have no other choice than yo specifically set up to stop him.

He played against Juventus with Monaco and was smothered. But that was a few years ago.

Surely they can implement a stop clock just for VAR decisions?

Fan of VAR but I support this.

I swear Schalke have never in their history won in any other way than by multiple penalties or by headers from corners. This game is the epitome of a Schalke win.

This ref is extremely good. Takes no shit from the players and knows how to calm everything down with a consistent line.

 I've been thinking/saying all week that the Man City game wouldn't be worth watching, and the Atletico/Juve game would be the tie of the round... But then again I predicted Liverpool vs Bayern would be a great game.

Bloody football.

Wow, the CL anthem is really going to be booed in the second leg as things stand

Why on earth would you think that?

Two boring teams.

Chiellini & Bonnuci were meant to be out, and good defensive football can still be enjoyable. So far it's been like a shite episode of Eastenders.

Fair play to the ref, I guess many would have let that foul pass with one pen already given.

I want City to advance in this, but I don't want their second leg to be a cruise.. so a defeat or draw would be good to give them something to think about in the next leg.

Agreed, he’s been quite good so far. 8 refs out of ten would have backed down and not given the penalty against Fernandinho as well.

I found the game is in Germany.

Meh doesn't mean much then. City will win easily at home.

Bloody hell the game's gone a bit stale here at the Wanda Metro.

they might as well get to the penalties already . juve-atletico is an eyesore

I had Juve as one of the favourites for the CL before this game.

Now I'm not sure. Is it just clash of styles or are they just bad?

Couple thoughts:

Lots of teams have problems vs this style.
Athletic has actually a really strong team.
Trying to influence ref at every occasion.

DeSciglio pretty bad this game.
In this kind of games you can see how important Khedira is.

0:0 will be an okay result. 1:1 or better "the dream"

Schalke are 14th in Bundesliga. I don't know how they are acceptable in the CL every year despite playing absolute fluke football in basically every game as well as even being near the relegation zone in Bundesliga. Just like when Schalke went to the CL semis.
