personally I thought they foreshadowed a lot of characters dying that didn't die. I'm not saying that's a bad thing It just meant that I was fearful for far more characters than actually died. I thought it added to the spectacle.

I enjoyed the episode, thought it was epic but boy did I know that the CAF was going to go bitchtits over it.

Looking forward to The Game of Thrones resuming. Cerci is a much better villain than the vapid and expressionless NK anyway.

Was really hoping she'd be the one to kill Cersei (wearing Tyrion or Jaime's face) but I'd say that looks unlikely now she's killed the NK.

Yeah. You have a horde of unarmored light cavalry. You dont just send them in a massive headlong charge into the unknown enemy. Especially when that enemy can then just resurrect them all.

Also, whatever happened to the idea of defending the walls? Why the feck are the Unsullied all sitting outside the castle? How about defending the chokepoints and walls?

Also, why the feck were the catapults/artillery in front of the bloody soldiers?!

These are just absolute basics of any sort of battle strategy. Battle of the Somme stuff right there.

Maybe they flipped it around because the tv show is named Game of Thrones, so they are ending with the throne battle. Since there's no ice side anymore I guess.

Also have to say, seen some people saying (prior to this episode) Maisie Williams is a bit overrated now but I honestly thought she was great in that episode.

Maybe, maybe not.

Bran is still knocking about and he's pretty pointless without the WW storyline. It wouldn't surprise me if the WW's turn out to be some sort of neccesaary cyclical thing (for what ever reason) and by the end of the show we see another NK emerge who will eventually threaten the world in another however many hundred years. Or, maybe that's total shite. Dunno.

That and the fact that 40k cavalry somehow managed to die in about 20 seconds. That many cavalry charging head on vs an enemy without pikes would smash straight through for a good while and once bogged down it would take the zombies a while to push through to them. It made no sense how all of them were just instantaneous goners, it was all done to create a sense of dread but was pure silliness. If they were capable of slaughtering 40 thousand cavalry with riders who have flaming swords, the whole battle should have ended in about 2 minutes.

And yeah the entire battle was a tactical mess, but it's GoT and that's pretty standard, the battle of the bastards was a mess in that respect too. Throwing the dothraki in to battle well ahead of everybody else (with no dragon support) was definitely special though.

Not gonna lie, I fecking loved it when she first started kicking arse with that pointy stick. One of my favourite parts of the episode.

Yeah. Can't speak for everyone but for me, it was a great pay-off on her journey.

At least with Battle of the Bastards you can understand why it was a mess. They had a strategy in place to defend but it all went to shit when Ramsey revealed Rickon. With this episode however the strategy was just plain shite.

Especially after fat Sam was able to hold about 50 of them off lying on his arse.

Is Gilly still alive? Hope not. I was sure she died and even allowed myself a Tiger Tim first pump in celebration when she seemed to die.

That said, you really have to suspend your disbelief with GoT and remember ‘tits + dragons’.

Jorah, Theon and Mel have been in the show since the first season. They were at worst tier two characters. Ed was a fan favourite who was also in the show from season one. Lyanna Mormont became a fan favourite the moment she opened her mouth but is a lower tier character.

They're definitely tier 2, not at worst. Didn't the WW have more than 1 giant ? Judging from how season 7 ended I mean.

Gilly and Mini Sam are alive. No named characters died outside of the 6 - Theon, Mel, Jorah, Eyepatch Fella, Lady Mormont, Captain of Nightswatch Ed.
