Do you think there will be a Deal or No Deal?

The Irish issue, it's basically because knobheads on both sides will start blowing each other up, isn't it? It's what it all boils down to.

A number of people on the remain side have said as much, that it risks a return to the troubles.

PSNI chief is in the papers today saying the same, that we must not upset the terrorists in case they decide to kick off.

So? About 3000 people died during the troubles and it took an enormous political effort (and lots of sacrifice on the part of victims families) to bring it to a close. So now we’re just going to throw all that away and maybe have a few more thousand people killed just so you can have the delusion of ‘taking back control’ and handing it to a bunch of Eton toffs who want to strip mine the countries public services?

meh... 2/10 must WUM better

Nothing wum about it.

It is the one of the biggest reasons it's an issue. Repeatedly stated by remain MPs and as I said, by PSNI today.

It sounds like a wum because it’s stating the bleeding obvious, without saying anything helpful/interesting. Like saying that the problem with mass shootings in the US is “just knobheads shooting people”.

Nobody but the remnants of the Irish terror groups want a return to the violence. I certainly don't want to see a border in place, other than the one on a map. I would also welcome a chance for the Irish to vote on their future, as and when they choose to do so.

These groups, or the splinter groups haven't stopped their violence anyway.

Cowering to the threat of terrorists just seems counter productive and if anything, strengthens their beliefs.

That was exactly the argument put forward all through the Troubles, and led to endless killing and horror. Let’s not pretend it’s anyone other than the UK stirring things up now and potentially stamping on the GFA. You can’t just tear up one of the most sensitive deals in modern times and then point the blame at someone else if it all turns to shit.

Expecting Britain not to casually opt out of the GFA that a lot of good people fought for isn't standing up to the terrorists for feck sake.

The British forces have been gone decades yet attacks continue. Being able to blame the British for the now and the past 20 years is quite a stretch. The terror groups, whatever they now call themselves, didn't really stop, so the blame lies squarely with them, for every bomb attack since 1998, for every shooting, for every attack on the PSNI or others like the murder of the journalist a few months back. Nobody else.

Lyra McKee was the murdered journalist.

But of course, its all big bad Britain's fault.

What a silly post. What age are you? Serious question

The UK should just take over the rest of Ireland again and leave the EU. Backstop issue solved and we satisfy the will of the British people.

Who solely blamed Britain? I have no idea what point you're trying to make.

Labour MP Hilary Benn has revealed on Twitter details of a bill which opponents of a no-deal Brexit will attempt to pass.

He said that it sets a deadline of 19 October for the prime minister to agree a new deal with the EU or get Parliament to explicitly agree to leaving without a deal.

If that isn't achieved, it would require Boris Johnson to request an extension of Article 50 until 31 January 2020.

He says: "The Bill has cross-party support from MPs who believe that the consequences of no deal for the economy and the country would be highly damaging. No deal is not in the national interest."

Why do you think things have become unstable again? I’ll give you a clue, it begins with Br and ends in exit

Any chance Boris is just going to tell us Dominic Cummings has sacked him?

Seems I was right earlier on; they know they don't have the numbers to block incoming legislation despite Cummings machinations. Wonder who pulled the plug on Boris appointing 100 new lords or blocking royal assent.

@golden_blunder Isn't there some sort of threadban you guys can use to stop trolls like this [wensley] messing with decent threads?

Government seal on the lectern, so he's speaking on behalf of the government not the party, and election announcement not likely.

Won't be an election announcement, simply a statement to MP's that either 'i win in parliament this week or i have to call an election so the evil elites cant block my will and the will of the people wrt brexit. these are your choices MP, back me or we call one.'

Quite funny watching him try not be distracted by the chanting.

What the feck does that mean then?

That it'll need to be a VONC but we knew that because he wants a GE. He just doesn't want to call it.

He talks about the power of his negotiating position, the aim of which is presumably to remove the backstop. Yet there isn't anything to negotiate we just need to demonstrate our alternative arrangements.

The idea that he'll only present them under the context that the EU are scared we might leave on no deal is ludicrous.

The bit where Brexit wasn't even a thing between 2009 and 2016.

And Brexit being the excuse or reason for everything simply doesn't stand up to scrutiny. It's a cop out, nothing more, nothing less.

So thread ban someone with a different opinion to yourself?

I wouldn't be shocked if Boris called an election vote to outflank any no confidence motion
Call the election for 24th October and fight it on leave / remain
I think with the prorouging basically he only has to see this week out and then any no confidence motion would take place too late for an election this side of 31st
Basically it needs to be called Tuesday or Wednesday I think

starting to look more likely as the day goes on

You should really stop making these prediction posts.

What the feck does that mean then?

Nothing. It’s just blame game for when he does head for an election and deselect his MPs. Just laying groundwork.

He will claim that he didn’t want to waste time with one but the treasonous MPs made him do it by trying to sabotage the will of the people. Then deselect them and head for a People vs Parliament election.
