Could we get relegated? | United officially now safe from relegation for 2019/20 season

This whole idea is completely ridiculous but just the fact it's discussed shows how bad we have become. Depressing times

It is ridiculous but if this form continues for the rest of the season we’d be in trouble. Whatever way anyone looks at it, our current performances are relegation form.

We are the worst team in the league at the moment, it's really not that unlikely.

The teams that get relegated are the teams who struggle to score any goals, and that's us.

Unless there is a change in management yes. Relegation form where on, we cannot score goals .

Atleast we would win something next year if we did.

No way you are getting relegated. Your team is far better than what they are showing right now, it's an anomaly that will corrects itself during this season.

Look at your defense, arguably the best GK in this league. And bar Liverpool, you probably have the best defense on paper.

Midfield and attack are clearly your problem right now, but with Pogba, McTominay, Martial, Lingard and Rashford, you have 5 players that would be automatic starters for most teams in this league. It's a matter of time, and players being fit, before you start winning again.

yes and I think it will happen, we are the worse team in the league.

When we go knocking other clubs doors for players in Jan they are going to see how desperate we are and ask for stupid prices for mediocre players. There is no chance that we are going to get decent players now, who would come apart from players after a pay rise.

Chelsea game? where did that performance go? When Olly first came in where did that form go? Something is not right coaching, management, and players.

I am not Olly out but he will soon enough not be able to defend some of the performances we are putting in or defend the players for average turnouts.

Just placed my first bet in over 10 years - £5 on United to get relegated.
Unless Ole is sacked then we are going down.
Name 3 worse sides in the league at the moment?

This is true and what makes the discussion relevant.

Didn’t West Ham get relegated with a team including Di Canio, Defoe, Joe Cole, Carrick, David James, Les Ferdinand, Bowyer, Kanoute, Lomas and Trevor Sinclair ? A squad packed with international players and some among the best in the league got relegated so it can definitely happen.

You take out Pogba and Martial and we don’t look good enough to even score let alone win games, I don’t think we can keep blaming injuries anymore. With Wan-Bisakka and Maguire both in the team we look far better defensively than we have in years but we’re woeful in midfield and worse up top.

Our upcoming league games are Liverpool who are flying next then that’s followed by two away games so we could very realistically lose all three games and end up second bottom (don’t see Watford overtaking us over that period) which then kills all (if any is left) confidence the club has and the rot will set in.

Young, Jones, Rojo, Bailly, Fred, Matic, Pereira, Lingard and Mata are all players that need to be gotten rid of and then all need to be replaced on top of the replacements we needed to bring in for Sanchez and Lukaku and then we need to bring in a better manager and put a proper structure in place because what we have right now is fecking piss poor.

Part of me hopes we do get relegated just so the cnuting Glazer’s are run out of the club and closely followed by Woodward as they’ve overseen the destruction of the club and done it in record time, we were league champions only SEVEN fecking years ago.

Look at the players, Fred is championship at best, Martial is up and down, I don't know what's happened to Rashford, Lingard has gone missing, Pogba, sorry, I just don't rate him. He plays when he wants to and is appallingly inconsistent, Mata is past it, as is Ashley Young, Chong isn't good enough.

As I said, I'm old enough to remember the last time it happened and this team I think is worse. At least under Tommy Doc, there was hope that he would have a purge and rebuild, which he did do, very successfully, but with this ownership I can't see that happening. As has been said, this team don't have the stomach for a fight, either against relegation, or if the worst happened, to scrap their way out of the championship. What I think will happen is that Ole will get the push at about Christmas when they're about fifth from bottom and they might get someone like Big Sam to just about keep them up.

I posted the following not long after last season ended.

Leeds, in their last season in the top flight fifteen long years ago, had a relatively decent side with (ageing) seasoned professionals such as Harte, Barmby, Viduka, Wilcox, Bakke, Matteo and Batty alongside several talented youngsters of that era in Robinson, Pennant, Smith and obviously Milner. Sounds familiar? If I remember correctly they were stuck in a rut for much of the season, suffered horrible runs of form and were ultimately relegated.

I'm not saying the same fate will happen to us in the near future but if we lose both De Gea and Pogba this summer, fail to properly replace them and become even more complacent despite all the warning signs, relegation is not beyond the realm of possibility.

Losing Pogba and De Gea in the summer would've been catastrophic, but we sold Lukaku and Sanchez instead and failed to replace them. We're stuck in a rut and our current form is horrendous. I'm just saying...

It really wasn't.

Once you get Pogba and Martial back you'll win a game or two to get back in top half.

Really? What have either Pogba or Martial shown you that suggests they will make any meaningful difference to this situation? Honestly. Pogba doesn’t give a toss and Martial is almost useless.

And yet we concede almost every game. Teams don't even have to attack us that much. If Ole is not coaching our attack, who's to say he is coaching our defence? What if it starts coming apart?

Edit: agree with everything else you've said.

Ole talking about the injuries.
Most of them are defenders and we’re not really having big problems there.
There’s only Pogba and Martial missing in midfield and attack (I’m discounting Lingard ‘cos he’s permanently missing whether he plays or not).
So this is it guys. This is our squad.
So thin that we’re relying on inexperienced young kids who aren’t ready or able to take on the responsibility.

Gary Neville on Sky rightly blaming the board for a “cock up” that’s been going on a few years.

I believe we could. Current ratios would see us there or there abouts.
Its a genuine worry when teams at the bottom ot the league can beat us.
Regularly

100% agree. Pogba can't be bothered most of the time and doesn't want to be here, he wasn't even effective against Rochdale. Martial has done nothing all season. Neither are the type of players you want in a relegation scrap.

This. If Pogba, AWB, Luke Shaw and Martial had been playing it would have been a different story. Yes, we're poor this season but a few signings woill improve us massively.

I agree, we are stronger with all of those players in the team but Pogba and Martial alone will not drag this team out of its slump. Neither are the right characters for that.

If Ole stays and we don't buy anyone in January we could definitely go down. We are averaging a PT a game since he took the job. That's relegation form.

It was a nice idea and he temporarily looked like he had it in him. However it's all starting to look like a new manager bounce fluke and the players being happy Jose was gone.

As soon as the results turned he's looked lost. He's got no answers.

Martial took his goal very well v Wolves. Also seemed to play well v Chelsea? Also should've got a penalty v Palace. Small sample but that's the only three games he's played this season.

Edit: You took 4 points in 3 games Martial played in this season. Not amazing but that's the ratio needed to stay up and more than you're managing atm which is 1 point from 3 games.

You have to be really really bad to be relegated. I've been there with my club when we'd go three months without scoring a goal under Paul Lambert and we still stayed up in that season.

You'll change your manager, have a run of 3 wins in 5 games or something and that will be that.

With Ole in charge? Absolutely.

Perfect Storm.

- Incapable manager out of his depth.
- Predictable style of play.
- Poor coaches.
- Shit squad.
- Inexperienced kids being relied upon.
- Zero fighters in the entire squad (apart from Maguire and 1-2 others). Nobody with the spine to roll up their sleeves and drag us out of a relegation dogfight.

If Ed bites the bullet, no - we'll get that new manager bounce at the very least and finish around 10th. I think we'll need to actually hit the bottom 3 before Ed fires him though.

What people underestimate is that it is terribly hard for a team that is supposed to challenge for trophies to flirt with relegation. I doubt that the United team that got relegated in the 70's was of relegation quality. The psychological pressure would be monstrous.

No. The powers that be would pull the trigger on Ole long before we get anywhere near that point.

Without the injuries, there is enough quality in the squad to take points off most teams in the league, so a caretaker would probably keep us around mid table.

Though if they actually let Ole finish the season it could very well be a different story.

No offense mate, but if you think lingard would be an automatic starter for most clubs you've not been watching him.

That bounce came about because the players felt Ole liberated them from the evil Tyrant Jose. The difference this time around is the players don't hate Ole, and why should they? They are seemingly permitted to underperform every single week and not get called out for it, all the while earning a ridiculous sum of money for the privilege. The players are content. I don't expect them to suddenly start playing for their careers just because a new manager has been installed. On the contrary, in fact.

Anyone expecting a new manager bounce is in for a rude awakening.

When discussing relegation, you normally ask whether there are three teams worse than yours. Well, we just lost to one of the favourites for the drop.

As things stand, it’s a possibility. We struggle to score and have a manager completely out of his depth. The reason I still regard it as highly unlikely is our ability to spend in January and the fact we should have a new manager by then. Still, it’s testament to the demolition job Woodward has done over six years that this thread even exists.

We're going to need to buy a player or two who can reliably score goals. Will these players be available in January?

Ok we are now only 2 points off the relegation zone.

The relegation battle is real.

I dont think so but if we do we will need to make some major investments to be in the run for promotion.
