Do you see the plan yet?

If you’re not backing Solskjaer now, you’re not paying enough attention. I’ve seen enough in the last two games to be fully confident about where we are going.

He still needs to figure out a plan against those teams who refuse to get out their half.

Although to be fair, it's a problem we've had for 6 years so it's not just him.

Counter attacking football against teams that dominate the ball? What a revolutionary idea.

Great win but let's not use this as a stick to beat people who think Ole is not good enough. Even Mourinho and Van Gaal acheived great results against the top 6 like this.

What's the plan? I see counter attacking yes. What else can you see to tell us?

I certainly saw a plan that worked today. Just as it did against Chelsea. Unfortunately it involved counterattacking to a degree that will only work against certain teams. We still need to have an effective way of playing against lesser teams.

But today ain't the day for that sort of criticism.

14/18 points against chelsea, leicester, arsenal, liverpool, spurs and city

10/30 points against wolves, palace, southampton, west ham, newcastle, norwich, bournemouth, brighton, sheff utd and aston villa

So we can safely say there's a pretty solid plan for the teams that are better than us.

We wont reach the top positions by winning against the big teams and losing points to the dross. Once we know how to put the lower teams away, we will be on the right track. Easier said than done, but so far, we still dont know how to win games consistently against teams not in the top 6.

That's the thing though, the plan works when the stakes are high and there's a lot of chances for counters. It doesn't seem to work against the lower-level teams. There's been enough time for Ole to sort that out and it's still not there. You can do well against the big teams, but you're not going anywhere in a season if you don't consistently put away the teams you're supposed to. Let's see if this is a catalyst week to change that around, he's earned himself some safety until the end of the season.

Having more players would help with that.

Someone to rotate..
Someone for a plan B.

Considering there wasnt a single player on the bench I would have liked to see start (Young maybe.. Greenwood and Axel maybe because they have potential but arent ready yet), we clearly dont have enough players to perform at our best every 5 days.

We need more players. If we get them and we still drop points against dross, you might have a point..
Till then, ups and downs are expected...

Oh wow, but when we lose, you see how they use those results to insult ole as if he is clueless cnut P.E. teacher.

That the players are behind the manager. That the fans who go to the games are mostly behind the manager. That our counter attack is lethal. That when our defence turns up, it’s very difficult to break down. That we still have one of the top goalkeepers in the world. That the bulk of our squad haven’t got to their peak, and will all reach it together. That we are a signing or two away from being able to get back to the top.

Instead of thinking we need to rebuild again and hire a new manager, realise that our main problem is creativity against teams that sit deep. You don’t replace a man that the players love playing for to achieve that, you either develop or buy the player who makes the difference.

Mourinho actually struggled majorly against the top 6 if I recall correctly.

I'm still not convinced about our plan against 'park the bus' teams.

It’s phase one. And is laying the right foundation. Once done, phase two will be to add more quality and be more proactive. I like what I’m seeing at the moment.

You keep mentioning more players.

But why do we need more players to not get dominated by Villa or Sheffield United? We have better players than them ffs.

I like what I've seen the past 2 games, but we should be wary. We've had false dawns before.

We need to play better vs teams that will let us have the ball. We can't rely on counter attacks all the time.

Why don’t you tell us the plan and how it will be used against the other teams in the EPL?

Exactly.

A lot of people hyping up Ole and rightly so(after the past 2 games), but these were the same people(or some) who claimed our team is mid-table at best and we've full of championship players when it's not true.

I need to see more before I'm 100% on board with Ole.

People forget, but we've had good performances in big games under LVG too. I mean we went to Anfield and dominated Liverpool, beat Tottenham 3-0 prior to that and then smashed City 4-2 after Anfield.

Didnt Liverpool have similiar issues Klopp's first season. Look where theyare now . just buy a few good players and have a better squad ..

The two games where McT was missing? If you dont understand why that didnt weaken us significantly.. especially in the Sheff Utd game where we should have ideally gone in with 3 midfielders, there is nothing I can say to help you.

You cant perform in every game if you have a paper thin squad. It cant happen.
Players wont perform at their best.

Why don’t you tell us the plan and how it will be used against the other teams in the EPL?

The plan is long term and it MUST be given time to come to fruition.

With all respect, the short tempered impatient fans that we have can feck off.

Did we or did we not have better players than both teams?

I can’t help you either if you think they had better players than us.

I know every one is hyped up but I m sure we LL see more ups and downs during the season as we have a thin squad and the team is also works in progress.

If this is the best Ole can come up with, we'd eternally be hanging around 5-10 position in the table.

No, what MUST happen is whatever is best for the club.

We can't go on with a manager who doesn't know how to win when his team aren't the underdogs. These two games have bought Ole a little bit of time to prove that he isn't one of those.

But if we go on and put in another Sheffield performance against Everton and Newcastle over the next couple of weeks, then these last two games will have been for nothing. And he'll be back on the sackwatch.

The plan's been obvious since the summer and too see it through means enduring the short term pain for the long term gain.

Problem is too many can't handle hard times and prefer the throw the towel in

So basically you can’t explain it yourself. Which means you can’t see it and therefore can’t understand it and are just using the past 2 matches to do some kind of pro Ole propaganda.

The last two have been great performances, but our major issue for a long while (apart from Mourinho's second season) has been failing to take sufficient points from the lesser teams.

We have had seasons after Ferguson's reitrement where we have had great results and performances against the top four/six.

Van Gaal (First season) - Destroying City, Liverpool and Tottenham

Mourinho (Second Season) - Taking 13/15 points against the other members of the top six in the second half of the season.

The only season where we have taken a lot of points from the lesser teams was Mourinho's second season, the season where we achieved by far our best position in the league since Ferguson's retirement.

This is where we need to improve, particularly with how bad we have been against them under Solskjaer. I will not change my mind about Solskjaer until he improves performances against those teams. We have shown poor performances in the last three of four games prior to the games against Tottenham and City, so these bad performances are not behind us yet.

Please see my other posts in the thread, I’ve already addressed this.

We obviously don’t just counter attack though.
Even late on today we got the ball back to De Gea, played up the field with neat passing and nearly found Lingard through on goal.

Liverpool won 22 games and got 76 points.

No way are we getting anywhere near that. We got 24 points from 16 games.

This.

everyone always overreacts on here. It’s 2 games.

Need quality players who can move balls in smaller spaces. We are missing the quality to play against teams with lower blocks. Mancity have tons of such players and have been successful in past 2 seasons (Silva, De Bruyne, Bernardo, Sterling etc)

I agree with you. But "EVEN Mourinho and Van Gaal" ? . They're lesser managers than Ole now ?
