SARS CoV-2 coronavirus / Covid-19 (No tin foil hat silliness please)

Just been watching contagion and fecking hell if this was the narrative in people's minds when the virus was in it's formative stage no wonder why the panic buying was so bad.

Add that to the coms and it's not hard to see why people have been conditioned into thinking unbolting their front door is a death sentence.

That and the 340,000 dead people anyway.

Looks like the US will pass 100k deaths today, almost a week before June.

At least in my area, SoCal, it’s almost as if normal life has resumed. Thousands out and about and a lot without masks. Some having parties, with guests, in their backyards for Memorial Day weekend. The lockdown here has never been enforced as strictly as in Italy or Spain and tbh I see no end in sight anytime soon.
Sure, the ICUs have not been overloaded thus far so that’s good, but maybe the people are accepting of the numbers they have. Who knows what the future will bring?

I can imagine all the tories sat round a table in their underground lair.

"The great unwashed are kicking off again. How can we appease them?"

"Oh, tell them they can have their Primarks back. That oughta do it."

I imagine it looking like this

No one thinks that you just like repeating it for some reason you drama llama. The vast majority of the country have taken up daily walks during this crisis, people aren't afraid to go out they're just overly cautious of contributing to spread because they don't like other people dying.

I've just tried this and it's remarkably accurate.

I certainly think I would have initially been more inclined to be critical of Varadkar if this story hadn't been brought to my attention by the lowlife Gemma O'Doherty section of the internet, latent with barely suppressed and not-actually-at-all-suppressed homophobia.

On the plus side, it was fun watching the hardcore leftie eejits tie themselves in knots after going to town on those photos, then frantically walking it back when the far right homophobes waded in.
Well said, Pogue. Spot on.

Are you high? The biggest change in the Phase 1 of exiting lockdown was being able to meet up in groups of four, outdoors. Everyone’s been talking about this. Did you miss the memo?!
I had that lad on ignore already; wonder why?

Or maybe its because people realised just how deadly this could be to certain groups of people theyd originally come into contact with so they done just about everything they could to stop the spread and killing innocent people

My girlfriend is planning on having an eye test this week. From Wales to London, can't wait, been over 2 months :D
Just remember to knock one off before she arrives otherwise you'll blast through the top of her head like a riot police water cannon.

They are the same scum who were actively breaking social distancing and calling the lockdown illegal the same goes for the rest of the far right nut jobs who were calling for an end to the lockdown, now that it suits there agenda they are all for social distancing, even though the guidance has changed to allow this sort of a gathering.

Spain have removed 2 thousand deaths

Not sure but probably removing suspected now from official figures and the two areas Cata/Madrid want to move to the next phase.

I'm not sure if incompetence (US/UK), or choice (Brazil/Sweden) is worse. Our government are fecking idiots and they are a whole magnitude less incompetent than BoJo and Trump.

There was nothing incompetent about what the US did. That was 100% a choice.

People's response to the virus in the UK has highlighted what an outsider the UK really was to Europe. British people are far closer to Americans than they'd like to admit.

Said this would happen.

They can't get essential community services to provide a basic function to people desperately in need of help, but it's ok for someone to open up a shop and sell you a selection of scented candles.

Feck off.
I think this was just a move to distract people from the Cummings furore. It will probably work as well

Choice informed by incompetence in both cases IMO.

Some cases are believed to be "suspected covid not subsequently confirmed by PCR". Others are currently being blamed on duplicated/faulty reporting. Apparently the national figures (collated from the regional authority results) have tried to move from "daily reported" to "actual date of death" aggregates (which is really a more useful metric) but it sounds like the methodology wasn't great.

At any rate, a chunk of those 2 thousand may reappear once the regions re-examine how their data is being used, and it may take a few days to stabilise again.

I've got the gene variants they're now linking to increased risk of severe covid :nervous:

Not ideal but I'm assuming it's one of those slightly increased risk factors taking it from say 2% to 4%. Glad I'm only in my 30s though, I'm sure the dad bod I'm sporting is a greater risk.

Shock horror. Think it confirms my belief that the government medical advisors doing the briefings were at times defending government decisions rather than contradicting them.

'Football stadiums low risk of spread' comes to mind.

North Wales is still in lockdown so you don't see a soul on the beach , those pictures are incredible , might as well just lift all measures . Has the virus cleared up in England now?

You would think looking at that photo that the virus must be totally destroyed in England so well done to them if that is the case.

My eyes feel funny....might do a round trip to The Trafford Centre to make sure they're ok.

Really?! I didn’t think they’d identified gene variants for a more severe illness. Where did you read about this? How do you know you have them?

So shops are going to re-open, where will all the children of said workers go, if not primary school age?
This is where the "trust" issue comes in with how the government is behaving. If opening the shops is part of a reasoned plan where the risks have been calculated then we could all agree with it.

However if you begin to suspect the governments motives then you might think this decision has been made to...

....distract people from the cummings fiasco....apply pressure on school governors and Head teachers to reopen on the 1st June so that shop workers can go to work...make it look like this has all been handled well because our lockdown was released "on schedule".

They know that when the final death tolls are worked out there will be hell to pay - and in some cases I hope that to be literal.

I've no problem with officials being overwhelmed by events, making unfortunate decisions or taking an incorrect path based on limited info in a rapidly changing situation. However if people bale out of London when things are looking scary, then concoct an elaborate pack of lies to cover it up, then divert significant time of ministers, civil service and communications people to double and triple down on gaslighting the country then they deserve to rot in the hell they have made for themselves.
