We had f*cking cos-players appearing yesterday and I'm just thinking this is so not the time for jokes,even little ones. Now,there's a brilliant documentary on Netflix regarding the Vietnam war and I was instantly gripped by the protesting and the sheer wil those people displayed in getting their message across to the GOV. It was raw, long and relentless. Now, do these protesters have the same stamina if they cant get the rightful answers and action they want ? We'll see.
I'm sure as hell hope they do. Its is going to be hard as heck and more help is needed but they ,and everyone who wants, have to make history now!

Yeah, i mean obviously there's no malicious intent here or anything from the guy. He's raising money for a noble cause and good on him. But it's just the level of tone-deafness that's quite astounding.
1) Im genuinely surprised that there havent been any mass shootings from this yet. It only takes 1-2 nutcases to instigate something like that.

I’m not seeing any scheduled where I’m at, so maybe the smaller cities will calm down. The large cities and hotspots of Minneapolis, Louisville, and Atlanta will probably still see some action.
1. When was the last time that happened? With media, its probably been recent but it feels like its been a "while", thankfully.

Seems there has been attempts as early as yesterday, not "sensational" enough I guess for reporting as its low in deaths or injuries.
Nutcases target places where their victims are unlikely to have the will or means to fight back. These riots do not meet the definition of that. Just look at the people who are turning on those who come out to cause destruction. There's also a heavy police presence. Bad odds for nutcases.

Dublin city centre is currently thronged with BLM protesters. All very peaceful but obviously not great in the middle of a pandemic. Especially when we know how street parades have been attributed as a big factor in the horrendous second wave of Spanish flu.
I think it’s good to show solidarity but - in a country like Ireland - surely we need to find a way to do that without taking to the streets?

Something massive has to take part like the protests in the states during Vietnam war your right. When all this initial rage is over there should be friendly protests for weeks or months with mass gatherings.
It’s going to be incredibly hard to change a mindset of a country and that’s why I mentioned Obama earlier in the thread they need some kind of voice, leadership, that’s passionate about change. Trouble is there is no MLK’s about to guide them I really hope someone emerges and leads, but that probably won’t happen..

It’s bad timing with the pandemic but otherwise a great move in my opinion. While the centre of all this is the US it’s something that affects the world, plus the world showing solidarity on the state of the police there is a huge point being made.

I visited the Magnolia one last year, and it is a beautiful place, but also a whitewashing scheme. It's like a Disneyland + slavery history place all in one. Super expensive as well. Every ride or tour is charged separately.
I was kinda Ok with it, until I find out that the owners are the same people who had the slaves. I thought that it was state owned by now, donated or something. But no... the fecker are still profiting on slavery.
When I left I felt like an idiot for paying them like 500 dollars. (Did saw a nice bald eagle, so I guess only for that it was worth it)
I wish people went to burn that shit down (the historical house at least) instead of small local shops.

Those people become figureheads of movements after the fact. You don't wait around for someone to lead, movements are won by movement. Leaders come out of it organically.

- August 1619: The White Lion, a 160-ton Dutch privateer ship flying a British flag landed at Comfort Point in Virginia loaded with “20. and odd negroes” to be exchanged for food and the “best and easiest rates...”
- 1636: Boston creates the “Night Watch” which would become the first police force in America.
- June 1640: Virginia’s General Court created what many are calling the nation’s first slave when the court condemned John Punch, an African, to a life sentence of servitude because he was black. Punch, one of the original White Lion Africans, had run away from his master along with an indentured Dutch servant and an indentured English servant. When they were found and brought back to their master, a judge ordered the three absconders to be whipped 30 times apiece. The Dutchman and the Englishmen were sentenced to a one-year extension on their indentured servitude contract. But John Punch received a different sentence:
- 1669: Virginia’s legislature passes “an act about the casuall killing of slaves.” According to the new law, masters who kill their slaves in the act of punishing them are held not to be responsible of murder.
- 1704: South Carolina creates the first modern-day, public police force. Called “slave patrols,” these publicly-funded organizations served three functions: 1) to chase down, apprehend, and return runaway slaves to their owners; (2) to provide a form of organized terror to deter slave revolts; and, (3) to maintain a form of discipline for slave-workers who violated rules.
- Sept. 9, 1739: “Jemmy” a literate, enslaved Kongolese warrior in South Carolina organizes an uprising against whites that results in 25 colonists and 35 to 50 Africans being killed. The Stono Rebellion was the largest revolt in the British Mainland colonies.
- April 1740: After the Stono Rebellion, South Carolina passes The Negro Law of 1740, making it illegal for enslaved Africans to leave the US, assemble in groups, grow food, earn money, and learn to write. The law also gave slaveowners permission to kill rebellious slaves and it remained in effect until 1865.
- March 5, 1770: America’s first police brutality protest turns into a riot when British troops charged with policing colonists open fire on Boston residents. Crispus Attucks, a black man, is killed during what we now call the “Boston Massacre.”
- December, 1791: Congress ratifies the Second Amendment to the Constitution, giving Americans the right to bear arms. James Madison created the amendment to allay fears of armed black uprisings.
- March 6, 1857: Supreme Court issues a verdict in Dred Scott v. Sanford, in which Chief Justice Roger Taney wrote:
- Apr. 12, 1861: 11 state governments unite to form a white supremacist nation, deciding they’d rather stop being Americans than stop enslaving humans. The Civil War is still the bloodiest war in American history.
- Apr. 9, 1865: White supremacist nation admits it got its ass kicked.
- Dec. 24, 1865: A group composed of former Confederate soldiers, slave patrollers and law enforcement officers form the “Circle of Friends,” also known as the Ku Klux Klan.
- July 9, 1868: US ratifies the Fourteenth amendment, making former enslaved Africans citizens of the United States... kinda.
- July 9, 1868 - 1877: Ku Klux Klan and whites organize a national terror campaign that massacres tens of thousands of black people across the country.
- Jan. 1877: Following mass violence against African Americans and widespread voter fraud, a group of US senators and congressmen agree to settle the result of the 1876 presidential election. In exchange for installing Rutherford B. Hayes as president, the cabal’s compromise allowed Southern States to subjugate black citizens, or, as the History Channel notes:
- Summer, 1919: Widespread “riots” break out across the US when black veterans return from World War I with notions of equality. Many of these riots involve police officers and few of the participants of the white lynch mobs were convicted.
- Aug. 28, 1955: 14-year-old Emmett Till is kidnapped, tortured, killed, wrapped with barbed wire and thrown into the Tallahatchie River in Money, Miss. after Carolyn Bryant tells a white lie. His murderers are never convicted, even after publicly confessing to the crime.

Floyd Dies. Chauvin is charged with third-degree murder after four days of freedom. Three officers who were present — Tou Thao, Thomas K. Lane and J. Alexander Kueng, have not been charged.

At the moment,rightly, the vocal point leading this is the Black community as one and the memory of George Floyd (rip) but I agree that eventually they need more powerful allies or in the long run this will possibly fizzle out. Hope I'm wrong.
I disagree. The only thing they will achieve from their protests about a hideous crime commited in another continent will be increased death and misery in their cities caused by their recklessness in spreading the virus. There has to be more sensible ways for people not directly affected by the death of George Floyd to show their solidarity.

People need to drop this. No one goes outside to protest if what happens doesn't resonate. These are civil rights protests. It isn't solely about one person dying in another country.

Geez man, we are quite triggered in South Africa, if a street is still named (more or less) after something from Apartheid, we protest to have it changed, or something to that effect. But yeah not sure how to deal with something like that though.
I think it’s great to show solidarity. I also think it’s important to take to the streets if you need to address your protest to your own government.
But, believe me, police brutality is not a thing over here. Whether aimed at black, white or culchie. It just doesn’t happen. So they’re screaming into the void. And causing a public health hazard while they’re at it.
Plus I can’t shake the suspicion that most of them are motivated by the great content that marching will give them for their social media feeds. So feck that basically. Annoying and senseless behaviour all round.
I really hope so this is something that shouldn’t just fizzle out after a few weeks when the movement has already begun, it’s now when a leader should emerge. I’d absolutely love it to be Obama because he has global appeal, but I also don’t think he will do it.
