Amad Diallo signs for Manchester United

Thing is Chong never looked good on the ball.

No where near as good as Amad no but in the youth ranks he looked good enough on the ball.

You never know with youngsters what they'll do but the fact Amad looks to make good decisions and has a creative instinct (it seems) should put him in good stead.

Excited to see this kid play. We could finally have creativity from the right wing if all goes well

Same here. It's been like foreeeeeeeever that we haven't had any decent RW. But the kid is just 18, can't and should not expect much I think.

He reminds me a lot of Mane.

Has the same burst of pace, low center of gravity and even his ball running technique seems a bit similar.

If we are getting 50% of what Liverpool got out of Mane, its worth the investment. Just saying

True, the most likely scenario is he spends next few months getting used to the first team, with game time in the reserves
It’s not the most likely scenario - our need for RW reinforcement is dire, and it’s very likely that Ole will start to use him at least occasionally (having threat from the right is simply more important than giving a youngster more time to adjust).

What I do particularly like, skill apart, is the ability to know when to release the ball, and it's perfectly weighted

Also, he does track back and provide support to his full back. Far better in one on ones and link up play than Greenwood and stays out wide which will suit AWB for the underlap.

It will be nice to see more of a creative player on the flanks because at the moment Rashford, Martial and Greenwood all have similar mindsets when playing there: take the ball to feet and get the shot in as soon as possible. Mata has the creativity but is an old 32 and now has too many physical deficiencies which impact his game.

Ogden used to be on the United beat years ago. Then he was banned by Fergie for reporting (correctly) that Rio was injured. Day to day sports journalism requires you to be on good terms with the people you cover. It requires access but sometimes you risk annoying the people you cover. A manager's interest in keeping tactics, lineups and transfers secret is diametrically opposed to a journalist's interest. 'Getting the truth out' regarding matchday lineups is not quite the same as reporting on the Pentagon Papers, a fact that Ogden's colleague (and superior journalist) Daniel Taylor seemed to grasp: A football club isn't a democracy.

Still, Ogden makes a fair point no? Lot of money for a guy who has barely played.
I think it's mostly annoying that he has more than doubled the fee for clicks and suggesting that singing a player for potential like this is some sign of incompetence.

I'm talking about your stretch to somehow connect it to the Cavani situation. fecking bizzare mental gymnastics
I just meant racism in general, the cavani incident which is no ones fault, now someone on the social team lazily picking any old black dude cos “they all look the same”. Not that’s that’s what I think happened, just that that’s how it will be construed..

Let's see how he goes on, no need to have high expectations until at least he shows something in competitive games

Said the same a week or so back. The more highlights I see of him, the more I think it.

I remember the arrival of Ronaldo: he started playing well right from the start. So why not Diallo as well? :)

I don't think I'll ever forget that cameo against Bolton, with the fancy stepovers. It would be extremely unfair to put that level of expectation on Amad though, let's just see how gets on in these strange times and update our expectations after seeing what he can do in the first team.

I would like to see this kid play. His movement reminds me about Messi. No one knows how good he will be but i like the idea of signing technical dribblers like him. These are the players which can make miracles to happen. Doesn´t mean they always success though.

Yeah I am very curious to see how he adapts to this league and still hopeful he makes the squad in a couple of weeks time

Google Sadio Mane Metz and look at his thighs and core, you can see that Mane could play as a 9 (or hell a fullback or DM) whereas Diallo is much smaller, not gonna be near as strong. I think we''re looking at more assists but less goals if hr's everything we could realistically hope for in a RW. Mane is a 1 in 2 goalscorer on the wing and not a huge assists guy (though healthy number back in Austria).

I see Diallo as more of a playmaking winger without the power or goalscoring ruthlessness of Mane, and his second position being a 10 and not a 9.

So yeah, hopefully he's our opposite wing Ribery or that sort of high assist dribbler who does better out wide and links play on the right for us where our less creative but hard working and good athletes capable of making runs in McTominay and Wan-Bissaka play, and that he has the dribbling and passing to pick out Bruno and Rashford to his left and far left and whoever is up top.

Papu Gomez compared him to Messi and you can see why (small wonderful dribbling and creative left-footed right winger), so my guess is that will be the stylistic comparison, but obviously we can't expect that level of player because it's not how the natural laws of the universe and math work, but my expectations are high, I think he could be the long-term answer at RW, though we really should have picked up someone like James Rodriguez on a free this past summer or another ready to play RW to be that guy for this year and the next one or two and ease a guy like Diallo in til he wins the job clean.

I like that Ole put him in his place in one press conference recently. Think he asked some banal completely unnecessary and frankly stupid question relating to transfers or individual game tactics which everyone knew was never going to be answered and Ole just went, "what sort of question is that?" in an annoyed tone and just dismissed it out of hand.

Tbh, it's the least Ole should do considering some of the frankly borderline disrespectful stuff Ogden has said about him on the record (i.e. "that lad from Molde" as if he was the fecking work experience kid). There's having doubts and then there's being a cnut unnecessarily. It's weird seeing how he is now because up until then, I didn't really have an opinion either way on Ogden and he generally struck me as someone who was at least professional in his conduct.

Wasn't it Ogden who got caught mocking Harry Kane recently? He seems like one of the least professional journalists if anything.

I didn’t want to say, but I remember watching Messi in the B team and his very early Barca days and they are very similar in terms of ball control, touch and pass (handling) and his pace and directness. I think Messi looked stronger but he was also growing from the steroids/HGH.

I think Ahmed will be good and I think a few U23 games will be good but get him in-for the Liverpool game on the bench and give him 15.

Hope we get to see a front four of Bruno, Rashford, Cavani and Diallo at some point this season.

Doubt it. 4 forwards?
Not unless we are desperately chasing a game but we’ve seen this before where players just end up taking up each other’s spaces.

This lad can actually assist from the right. Cant wait. Cavani should thrive with danger either side. Also the 3rd left footed player in the squad. We need one more I think. Even a left footed prospect to rotate on the left or provide width instead of constantly cutting in. Maybe diallo can do that some games but he seems to be a lot more comfortable on the right cutting in...

He's posted Rio's interview about the comparison's to Ronaldo on his instagram story.

He's certainly aware of the hype around him, and he isn't hiding away from the fact that he knows about it too.

Excited to say the very least. Some players could shy away from that comparison and saying that he's his own player etc etc. He seems to embrace the fact people are referring to him as the second coming of Ronnie.
