Someone asked them to name one element of the opposition policy that they thought was a good idea. Neither of them could come up with anything.

I don't understand this cultural appropriation and this has made it more confusing.

I'll never understand this. What even is cultural appropriation at this stage? Are non-black rappers and r&b singers also doing it? Would I as a white man be doing it if I opened my own sushi restaurant after training under a true sushi master chef for 10 years? Where is the line drawn?

I’m willing to bet that the prats complaining about cultural appropriation are closet racists, trying to “own the libs”. Even though, yes, what’s she’s doing is definitely cultural appropriation.
I do think fussing about cultural appropriation is the very definition of a first world problem. Should be a long way down the list of issues that need to be addressed in the world today. Anyone who might have a valid reason to complain about it is usually among the least likely to give a shit.

Don’t get it either. To me it seems positive if people enjoy eachothers culture. Why shouldn’t anyone follow their passion because it’s origin is in another part of the world. Seems strange to me.
I always thought it stemmed from people fancy dressing as what is legitimately someone culture.
Even that is a strange complaint to me. As long as it's not your Halloween costume and you genuinely like to dress that way, then it shouldn't be a problem. Wearing clothes deeply connected to a religion without actually believing in that religion is probably not a good thing. But that strikes me more as blasphemy or pure disrespect than cultural appropriation.
I guarantee all of the idiots complaining about her are the 'my great-great-great grandfather's uncle was from Dooonegawl' MAGA idiots that flood Temple Bar every year.

There’s definitely a sort of privilege Top Trumps that applies with these things. As an African-American she gets cut a bit more slack than someone with more privilege. If a Native American trans woman turned up at a fancy dress party in a sombrero and floppy moustache then woke twitter wouldn’t blink an eye. If Prince Harry did the same he’d be crucified.

Yes when I doing Salsa and Tango lessons I was malevolently stealing other peoples cultures.
I find that a lot of the calling out of cultural appropriation comes from the US. I find that a lot of young second or third generation migrants, who feel strongly about their heritage yet don't really have an immersive first hand experience of their own culture of origin, feel very strongly about things that "natives" living in that culture might brush off with a grin.
I think context and circumstance matters.
There was a case some years ago when a Mexican-American student in Copenhagen University complained about a university event where some Danish students showed up wearing ponchos, sombreros and fake moustaches. The university clamped down on wearing that kind of costumes to parties. Funnily enough the Mexican ambassador said in a interview that as long as it was all in good fun he saw nothing bad in it, and that it was great that Mexico as country could convey such strong imagery in far away countries.
A Mexican friend of mine added that he thought the context mattered. If the same thing had been done by some frat boys in the University of Arizona, then it would definitely be offensive considering the history between the two countries and the situation of Mexicans living in the US. But Denmark/Mexico have no such history at all, and Mexicans have no negative status in that country.

This interesting and my impression as well. Americans are deeply interested in their roots and it seems like a ridiculously large number have taken a DNA test to trace their roots down to the decimal. "Oh, I'm 2.4% Egyptian? IT ALL MAKES SENSE NOW!"
The US is a young nation of immigrants, hyper-individualistic by nature and all about self-improvement and "knowing yourself", so it makes sense that they care so much. It's still funny to watch from the outside, though. I genuinely think third/fourth generation immigrants in the US care more about their heritage than the people currently living in said culture.
