Lingard to join West Ham on loan

Well it’s probably a more realistic transfer fee for a player in Lingard’s position than £50 million.

I think the main angle should be using Lingard to drive the price down of Rice to a point that leaves the transfer budget able to get him and then Sancho as well. That would be a brilliant duo to add to the starting XI.
Then where did the 45m come from? You created an imaginary scenario that wasn't part of the discussion.

You've literally got a player who's easily worth £50mil minimum and you're hoping to sell for half the value.

Regardless of your opinion of whether he should be sold or not, selling for £25mil is a bad bit if business.

So I repeat, thank feck you're not in charge of transfers.

There's no planet where Lingard is worth £50m. Come on mate you're getting carried away.

He's approaching 30, 1 year left on his contract in a post Covid transfer market, he's always been wildly inconsistent over the years and will be looking a club to give him something approaching the £100k+ he currently gets.

No clubs paying £50m for Lingard, if we get £20-25m off the back of his recent good form. It would be a fantastic bit of business as going off his last two years of form we would have been lucky to get £10-15m for him.

Incredible that 90% of these posts here when Jesse does well is “how much are we gonna get for him” rather than “I hope he can force his way back into the squad now”

....& yet half this forum complain when we don’t have quality in depth, beggers belief.
There's 3 players who can play in his position, Bruno, VDB and Mata, with Mejbri needing some first team outings as well.

Would be good to start a bit of a bidding situation with that calibre of team. West ham, everton, arsenal??
Ideal situation for us is a swap deal with villa for grealish. 60 mil plus lingard with him in this form? can't see them turning that down if jack wants to move

Yeah logic, we'll sell the experienced player in the form of his life for absolute peanuts whilst keep the likes of VDB as back up to Bruno.

Consider that selling isn't actually the wisest course of action, especially at 25 fecking million.

For reference, Fred cost double that.

And for reference, Robin van fecking Persie cost less with 1 year on his contract.

What’s your point? Outside of not understanding how transfer fees work.

I’ve always backed his ability but he’s a major confidence player. The kind of player that is better off at a club with less exposure and pressure.
When it comes to football, I'm almost always right, and I say that with no shame  He is a joy to watch when he is at full flow.

This
Either way it's brilliant though

He said £50 million minimum in a different post. So I chose the next incremental value down from that.

Look for context before you go round looking to criticise.

He has literally turned into a carbon copy of Messi, he gets the ball, turns, dribbles past about three players and then either sets someone up or gets a good shot off.

He's done this countless times in every game he's played since joining them , he even did it against City.

You can bet that if he comes back he’ll be crap again, but I bet if he’s sold even then he wont be much cop once he’s playing for his new club.

Personally I’d sell him for the decent fee we can command. There’s a chance he could come back and be great but I think there’s a bigger chance he’d revert back to his very patchy form.

You're using a transfer fee from 10 years ago and you're gonna question my knowledge of how fees work?

He just ran from his own half unchallenged to score, what the feck are Wolves doing when they dont play us?

Definitely, take the 25 mill that his new found form with easily guarantee us and let him continue to flourish at West Ham next season.

We would have been lucky to get 10 mill before the loan and he will be crap if he came back here, we already know that.

Funny I was about to say the same to you.. you often don't look at or simply ignore the context of the conversation when you butt in, and create an entirely different scenario. If you wanted to ask a specific question out of context, try bolding the sentence you are referring to.

A lot of the games we play in, the opposition pack the defence, and totally nullify Lingard's strengths. It's similar a lot with Dan James.

West Ham is a different proposition.
They hopefully have to go bigger to buy him than any of us thought would happen though.

Cue a 10m fee

Quite literally no player in the league better than him statistically since his West Ham debut. We were holding him back this whole time!

Glad he’s doing well.

But anybody who thinks he comes back here to sit on the bench (which he will) and then replicate what he’s doing at West Ham is off their rocker.

He is doing well there because he’s full of confidence and playing every week. Coming back to United to play in a squad role and be put under huge pressure when asked to fill in for the first team will put him right back to square one. @Sandikan makes a good point about the lack of space United get in comparison, too.

Less of the revisionism, folks. Put this down as a great move for all parties and let him go for an acceptable fee.

Yeah it’s nuts. We have an opportunity to add one of the best PL attacking players this season to our squad for nothing and everyone is wondering how much money we can sell him for which we may or may not spend on a new signing who may or may not thrive in the Premier League.

Jesse has always been a decent squad option for us who struggled for form when the whole team was struggling for form then had one genuinely terrible season while dealing with horrendous personal issues. Which he has put behind him and worked incredibly hard to be as fit as possible. The player we’re watching for West Ham is clearly good enough to merit a place in our squad.

agreed in total.

You surely understand that players perform very differently in different team and team stature set ups.

If we started Lingard every week, he wouldn't get the space and role he has at West Ham.

The smart thing to do would be to sell when his profile is so high. We know that he can't perform to the level that a club the size of United needs.

I just don't know if we're that smart.

He's just benefitting from the fact that teams don't throw 10 players behind the ball when they play against West Ham. If wolves set up like this against us it'd be 9-0

He’s coped fine with being a squad player in the past. What has hasn’t coped well with were life circumstances that had nothing to do with football, then being completely frozen out this season.
