We are now happy and everything goes back to normal. But in fact, we are stuck with the Glazers and their debt for life, and even worse we are stuck with the corrupted football organisations that allow city and PSG buy their way to titles every year.
Talksport weirdly were the ones to break the news about Woodward leaving so thats a feather in their cap at least. So weird as I dont ever remember them having any scoops before.

Thanks, makes sense then. Covid has been awful for the very obvious reasons, but long term maybe it forces clubs to be more careful in their budgets.
That's a normal business thing though no? Make a big change, some good, some bad and then hand it to the next guy for a clean start.

I honestly don't think there's much wrong with the CL as it is. Yes, the very name 'Champions' is a misnomer but it means all the strongest clubs get in every year and you have to beat them to win it.From 2024 the two teams with the highest uefa coefficient will be invited to play which basically means 2 English teams who don’t make it, so basically the top 6 always get in most probably as the better teams from the other three leagues are basically shoe ins.
I actually think this is fair because being one of the better teams in the champions league should count for something.

To me, that's better than the old knockout comp which only allowed the actual champions of each country to enter. Think of some of the rubbish teams Liverpool beat to win their European Cups FFS. They were obviously a great team, but they got some seriously easy runs at times.
What we have at the moment is a nice balance between the traditional 'elite clubs' and teams like Leicester and West Ham, who can qualify if they have a good season.
Not sure what to make of the reform proposals - six teams from the PL seems a lot, but at least it reflects the balance of power in European football and there's an element of competition involved. A million times better than the ESL proposals for me.

Agree. It's nostalgia. Why would anyone want the best teams of continent spread across three competitions? Also, people forget, that teams from smaller countries were more competitive, because there were strict limitations on foreigners until the mid-90s, so less players moved abroad and smaller teams could build strong teams if there was a good generation of local players. That's not the case anymore. The old European would have few competitive games today.
I didn't have an issue with guaranteed qualification, in part because there already is implicit thinking every year, this just formalised that. It was how those extra five (or more if it evolved) were allocated that interested me. I felt there would be pressure to increase numbers for teams to join. I had issue with UEFA's proposal based on "fixtures against 10 different teams, half of them at home and half of them away.", The coefficient bias is no different than guaranteed qualification. If you've done well previously this is your fall back inclusion.
While the ESL has gone, maybe for now, i suspect it will resurface again. Perhaps post-covid economic meltdown..

I mean... there really isn't implicit thinking every year, especially given how often United have missed out on it. Or Arsenal. Or Spurs. And now to be Liverpool or Chelsea along with Arsenal and Spurs. Dortmund set to miss out. Juventus with a chance to miss out, barely in 4th after years of dominance. Not so long ago got relegated themselves (for different reasons of course).
Football dominance goes up and down in waves. What might feel like an eternity always ends. Liverpool dominated for a long time. Then United for a long time. Now City has been at the top. Barca have been dominant as they've had probably the greatest player of all time during the past 16 years. Lyon went like 7 years straight of winning the French league in the mid to late 2000's. That ended.
Likewise Real Madrid over the past decade with the impact Ronaldo had there. Nobody's dominance lasts forever.

I must have missed one out. Regardless, Boris is just using it to avoid talking about Greensill and now Dyson. My point regardless is £10-20bn of Govt loans or Gvot backed bank loans to buy 50% of clubs isn't wholly unrealistic. They have all tools available to them. I don't think we should be limited in our ambition. It may be the only way to get Utd off the Glazers otherwise we are looking at China or Saudi money and its not really any better.

These takes are so fecking boring. Everybody knows UEFA/FIFA are corrupt. Everybody knows that the oil money is ruining the game. This is not new information.
What happened in the last 48 hours was an attempt to permanently lock out dozens of football clubs from the most lucrative competition in the game. This attempt failed primarily because the fans let it be known that they wouldn’t get behind this. And this includes fans of clubs who stood to benefit from the initiative. Belittling that achievement by reminding everyone of stuff we all knew already is mean-spirited nonsense.
No. They see it as evidence that the current CL and their domestic league's aren't worth the effort anymore. Unfortunately for them it's why the English teams couldn't risk upsetting their domestic stakeholders. I do agree with some of their arguments. UEFA need to sit down with these clubs and renegotiate the distribution.
I am very disappointed with the behavior of all the clubs involved. Now it is easy to leave, but they had to think about it before accepting. Something never seen before was perpetrated, it was a real coup. They should all be punished, including us.

Okay, let's make it based on history, fine. Clubs that finish below 10th are relegated from it and replaced by clubs that finished 1st and 2nd in the big 5 leagues. If all of those clubs are already in it, go to the 3rd and 4th place club and base it on country coefficient or something. Or the 3rd and 4th placed clubs from around the European leagues take part in a Europa League style tournament/version of the ESL for entry into the ESL during the 3rd season. That way you have a shake up of the participants every 3 years. Imagine Leicester facing all of the top European sides rather than Copenhangen and Club Brugge.
How I see it:
First season of ESL alone
Second season of ESL combined with a UEFA Cup league with teams that finished 3rd/4th in their respective leagues. Relegation kicks in for the first time for the ESL. Perhaps the teams that finished in the bottom in the first season start off with a points deduction or can't choose the order of the away/home matches. Clubs are relegated from and promoted to the ESL
Third Season New look ESL with promoted teams.

It really is. Being against the formation of this so-called "Super League" is not an endorsement of UEFA/FIFA and the shit that they get up to. The people who come out with these takes believe themselves to be so fecking above it all, too.
