Exactly.
Most all right wing press were constantly blaming the EU for anything and everything.
A good example was the Daily Mail totally incorrectly stating that the EU had not signed off its budget.
And of course the Tories kept feeding lies to in order to deflect any blame onto the EU.
But there was no obvious advocate of the EU to counter those lies and balance the narrative.
And the gullible masses lapped it up.
To be honest, I was a bit surprised that the remain vote was as high given all the propaganda.

The UK's departure from the EU means it is no longer part of the European Common Fisheries Policy and instead negotiates with Norway directly over fishing catches.

I have a few ties to the fishing community in the NE of Scotland through my wife. It's a relatively small sample size but they mainly voted Brexit on the basis of something along the line of a return to British fishing boats in British waters.
My understanding is that they feel like they've been dealt a double blow - the above hasn't happened, nor is it likely to. Also, because of all the new complications in exports to the EU, their income from this has dropped off a cliff edge.
 
My 96 year old grandad lives in Jersey. I’d much rather they didn’t cut his electricity off.
 
We'll just build very long cables to Jersey to take back control and power it with our own French built nuclear power stations.
 
They didn't do themselves any favours with that Jersey Shore rubbish. Never would've imagined there were so many tosspots down there.
 
What I find most astonishing is no matter how badly this government messes all this Brexit business up, it has absolutely no effect on the polls. People will still vote for Johnson and his cronies no matter what.

I would have a faint hope that the daily trickle of bad news would eventually build up and people would realize the common thread.

And the alternative is? That’s the question that needs to be asked.

the other issue is that there’s an expectation that the government will do badly - driven by all the general negativity, no matter who has the keys.

Corbyn's and Starmer's view of Brexit was just as ridiculous as the Tories.

Notwithstanding all the other issues for the UK, Brexit was the most idiotic thing the UK electorate could have voted for.
Now whichever government is in power, they will roll from one problem to another and this is only the start.

This week the Tories, fairly quietly announced, that they'd negotiated some kind of new trade deal with India worth something like an extra £1 bn, part is due to reducing tariffs on apples, pears and quince to India. Looking at the latest figures the UK don't sell apples, pears and quince to India. It's like the Japan deal where they reduced tariffs on stilton which is not sold to Japan either.

To think they are destroying trade with their nearest and biggest trade partners for minuscule trade deals elsewhere is beyond belief.
Because the electorate won't look into the details, they are still conning the electorate. If you criticise the government you are seen as unpatriotic.

Trouble is Brexit was a one off event, you cannot rectify the mistake within a short period of time, what the solution is I have no idea and rejoining is out of the question for a long period of time.

We also quietly granted full diplomatic status to the EU ambassador after making a song and dance saying we wouldnt because the EU wasnt a country ... I suspect that bluster and spin in the foreground is going to be a common tactic to discuise the reality in the background... i mean look at us loosing access to the Norwegen waters so we said a gunboat around Jersey to act tough

Worth stating also that Jersey as a crown dependency holds authority to grant fishing licenses in Jersey waters.

So you haven't read or understood the details of why the french fisherman have a problem, they didn't advise them in time. They haven't blocked a vaccine, they haven't turned the electricity off, what they are doing is warning them that if the UK continue to break the rules and renegue on their agreements there will be retaliation.

It's the french fishermen blocking St Helier, not the EU , what's Johnson's plan, machine gun them with their gunboats?

If people bring prohibited objects into the UK will they be confiscated or stolen. Wave a flag!

No doubt and the bulk of the media are fully onside in terms of spouting pro-Brexit propaganda. For example, the Daily Mail presented the key take-away from the recent deal with India as giving Priti Patel new rights to send home illegals. When you delved down into paragraph 6, you saw that it was actually an agreement to make skilled immigration easier for Indians into the UK (and vice versa). There’s nothing wrong with that agreement but I don’t think “increased non-white immigration as a quid pro quo of trade deals” plastered on that red bus would have been quite such a vote winner in places like Hartlepool.

If we do, and the USA for example are included, it would be a decision made seemingly solely out of spite.

Would be surprised anyway as the Southern European countries in particular have been making big efforts to allow British tourists back in.

In a nutshell Paul!

Brexit was always something to be avoided... mistake after mistake made by our ruling classes (well parliamentarians at the time) and even at the eleventh hour the chance was there, but it wasn't taken, so no going back now, at least for the foreseeable future, no matter how much hand-wring goes on in 'remainer-land'.

The kind of mistake 'virgins' and 'parachutists' only make once!

The UK won't be back in the EU in my lifetime for sure. Will be interesting and possibly amusing whether Scotland gains independence and applies to join.
More entertainment as the Little Englanders telling the Scots they shouldn't leave for precisely the same reasons everyone told the Brexiters not to leave.

Difference there was the UK could leave the EU anytime they wanted whereas Scotland can only leave the UK if Westminster say so, oh the irony.
