Hmm. Isn't it quite a bit more serious than that though.
Here we have the man who was central to Boris Johnson policy making, the man who was after all advising the PM.
And most importantly, the man who the PM had total faith in.
And of course the man who the PM personally backed when he knew perfectly well was telling lies. Something that the PM does all the time.
Yes, Cummings is a total shit.
But Boris knew that and yet not only backed him, but went on to award a massive pay rise.
The clear point here is that all of this calls into question Boris Johnson judgement.
And as a result, calls into question his competence.
Sorry, but I don't agree that this is serious, they were both in this together, but for whatever reason (Carrie maybe?) Boris sacked Cummings, at a time when Dominic thought he was 'fire-proof'...end of any 'seriousness' there maybe!
This is now a round of.... 'get you at playtime' from Cummings, he's telling Boris, "I will show everybody your weaknesses"... trouble is we all know Boris's weaknesses and most people love him for it. The other problem is that Cummings shows himself to vulnerable, and not half as clever as he wants people to think he is... i.e. he clearly was not able to convince Boris and/or save his job.
As for telling lies... well goodness me, shock, horror... politicians and their advisors sometimes tell lies...would you believe it?

Excuse me? You don't agree that the unecessary deaths of thousands of people is serious?
I'd like to know what you think is serious!
Matt Hancock will lead a No 10 news conference tomorrow
I think a serious Public Inquiry, into the Governments handling of the pandemic, from pre-pandemic planning, through to actual management and post evaluation of the pandemic effects, is required.
The problem is we know that will be headed by an ex-conservative from the house of lords as the conservatives will set up the "independent" enquiry.
No point in holding one then, is there? Everyone involved gets a free pass!
So, back to the 'knock about' stuff in the Commons.
What we need is for independent government enquires to have people not involved in politics such as judges to appoint the enquiry board and commission it. Having it run and owned by internally appointed people makes zero sense when they are investigating themselves.
As far as I am aware all Public Inquiries into such matters are headed by Judges, usually senior judges.
What is essential is the range/terms of reference of the Inquiry and having people on the Inquiry panel and who ask the questions, who know what they are talking about and what questions to ask!
For me the range and terms of reference would be everything from how prepared where we, to how did we handle it, especially the ongoing twists and turns and finally the evaluation (i.e. the ongoing and post pandemic findings) and how this can be used for dealing with future pandemics.
Once the Inquiry is complete, then the political 'axe' can fall, where its due.... yes of course, as we have seen many times before, Inquiry outcomes are often 'kicked into the long grass' at this stage! Then it becomes a long slog for survivors and/or the relatives of those who died or who were otherwise affected to pursue those identified as being responsible, through the courts...if they can!
Whatever you think of him, that takes balls. I dont think many people would be able to get themselves out of the house after his ravaging today.Matt Hancock will lead a No 10 news conference tomorrow
Nah feck him. He’s the human equivalent of a dish rag. Wet and listless.Whatever you think of him, that takes balls. I dont think many people would be able to get themselves out of the house after his ravaging today.

The government chooses who chairs it, but it is often a judge. There's been multiple occasions where it has been somebody from the house of lords though and I suspect it will be this time (although I hope not).
"Although initiated and funded by government, public inquiries are run independently. Ministers have the power to remove a chair or terminate the whole process – but no minister has ever exercised this power.
Each inquiry is led by a panel who are led by a chairperson. The choice of the chair lies with the minister who initiates the inquiry, and the tendency is to favour judges."
It definitely needs a full investigation including evidence from all the major meetings, the contracts that were signed, who was making the decisions. I've got nothing against a well run inquiry, but haven't seen much evidence from previous ones that they lead anywhere. We will see.

You have to have iron clad skin to be in politics, but yes to ignore this and carry on you have to have something wrong with you.It takes balls if you're a normal functioning human being with empathy and a conscience. I don't think that's a factor for a psychopath.
His weird manic laughter and crocodile tears routine keeps popping into my head.
Isint is also indicative of the world we live in today. Fragmented attention, fragmented news, hardly anyone buys a newspaper. We’ve also got fatigue from scandal. Not just politics. These things just don’t have an impact anymore, as we are busy watching Netflix. No scandal seems to hit the tories hard, so I expect them to increase their lead in the polls after this.
Maticmaker is perhaps a good indication of how warmly accepting the general population is of bald faced lying in all degrees. No scandal seems to hit the tories hard, so I expect them to increase their lead in the polls after this.

@Sassy ColinThe pathetic thing is none of these revelations are new yet the Tories poll well.
You've really got to think lowly of yourself to vote for this lot.
No.Is the attitude similar in Denmark?

Don't know if you realise it but these are the normal standards, for Politicians, and have been for years and yes its all the electorates fault.Do you ever think that having low expectations of politicians - unwilling to assess them against normal standards, as you’re doing here - helps create an environment where politicians expect very little of themselves, in terms of competence, integrity, purpose...anything really?
These are your words:
Sorry but I don't agree that this is serious....

Quite sad really. You are too kind sir!
Yes I am 'in step' with the majority!
