GB News; UK Right Leaning 24 Hour 'News' Channel

After the first few weeks I can't imagine this channel getting high ratings. From what I've read their intention is to be a hub where small viral clips get created and collect hits on online platforms. Basically what Piers Morgan was doing for ITV's Good Morning Britain which made them become part of the news rather than tell it. All the while still losing in the ratings to the dull and apparently dying BBC Breakfast.

And that brings me on to the entire purpose of this channel to be an echo chamber for right wing politics. On one hand these people say the BBC is dying and no one is watching anymore but on the other when their darling Laurence Fox got 1% of the vote while Sadiq Khan who they vilify won another election, apparently it's because people are brainwashed from watching the BBC. Which is it - no one watches the BBC or most people watch the BBC?

Schrodingers audience

Free speech nation. Can’t wait for that one.

I admire the optimism but I fear it will take off

It’s lovely that London rejected Fox so emphatically but he does have an exceedingly punchable face so I’m not reading too much into it

Wokewatch sounds fun!

This is going to get so many hate watchers, isn't it?

All those that hate its existence will be the ones watching it to commentate on the outrage. All the while boosting viewership levels, boosting the traffic to the site, and giving the data to its owners to validate the channels existence. It's like a self-fulfilling prophecy.

Wokewatch sounds fun!
@TotallyRealVeganPerson on Twitter tweeted “Middle class white men should be banned from Pubs”, in today’s Wokewatch we will spend an hour getting really angry about this definitely real tweet.

It’s going to drive the UK Twitter trends.

That's inconsequential in the main. It will be like TalkRadio but on film - bleeding money away for little return in live audience share but a few viral clips and social media controversy being viewed as a success. For radio that might mitigate financial waste but for TV I doubt it has a long term future.

Classic FM gets about 7 million listeners a week and one of the most popular radio shows in the UK is still Melvyn Bragg's In Our Time program. They don't trend online and most people under 30 probably have never heard of Melvyn but all of TalkRadio's outrage model still falls short in getting anywhere near the level of audience.

Can we change ‘Right Leaning’ in the title. It’s not quite Far Right but it’s certainly Hard Right.

Michelle Dewberry was awful on that sky panel show thingy. Always picking on Afua and talking bollocks.

Do you feel dirty after switching to that channel?
I just went to the link for a few seconds and took a screenshot. Going back to watching E3 now. Graphics are very reminiscent of the crap right wing American channels though

Oh I can imagine, can’t bring myself to put it on just yet, maybe later, curiosity will get the better of me.

Just flicked this on at half time and it seems to be a news channel spouting off their right wing, 'anti-woke' manifesto. Actual feck?

Edit: also looks like the budget was about 25 quid.

Despite the shitty production values I think this will find an audience, this country has plenty who will lap up the anti-woke stuff these grifters peddle.
Its hardly new, basically a bunch of talkradio and right wing LBC clones but they've been building up this culture war stuff for a while with good success

Just put it in for a minute and it was just Dan Wooton and that god awful Carol Malone. Looks dreadful. Hopefully they’ll all be out of jobs soon.

There’s far too much money backing it for that. It will lose money in every year of its existence and carry on regardless. .

It's giving a voice to people you don't hear from in the mainstream media. Like The Sun and LBC's Dan Wooton, that guy who has had hundreds of episodes of him pretending to be a historian on BBC4, The Jeremy Vine Show panellist and Daily Express columnist Carol Malone and The Guardian, Independent and Washington Post columnist Benjamin Butterworth. All hosted by former face of BBC TV politics and ongoing Spectator chairman, Andrew Neil.

im not sure I’ve even heard about this outside of the Caf…

The more people complain about it… the more viewers it will get.

just ignore it, and don’t annoy yourselves?
