Day 9: Hungary vs France | Portugal vs Germany | Spain vs Poland

German is stretching Portugal by using the width and then quickly switching the point of attack and playing the ball in behind the spaces of the back four

They didn't have the same space to play as France sat in a bit deeper nor allowed them to move the ball as quickly

I know this is a pet peeve of mine but I cringe every time when the German commentator tries to pronounce the Portuguese names "authentically" instead of just ending their names with a simple s-sound like a normal person. Ruben "Diazsch" is already pretty bad, but how he pronounces Bruno Fernandes´ name (Fernantzsch) really takes the cake.

Really good game to watch, though.

Deserved from Germany. Bruno is a bit anonymous but the whole Portugal side isn't playing great tbf

Brilliant half of football. Portugal rattled a bit by Germany's pace an intensity.

Portugal really need to get an actual midfielder on to help them, either one of Neves or Renato would help a lot

My son came up with this joke:

If Roma signed Semedo, they wouldn't need another pic for missing person....

Finally an interesting Euro match to watch. Go on portual get your shit together and fight.

So is it a goal for Havertz or Dias OG?

Google and ITV reporting different things. BBC don't seem to have a clue.

Best half of football in this tournament so far. Deserved result for Germany.

Can't wrap my mind about how Portugal have such quality up front and are persistent on playing such crap style of football. You're not underdogs anymore.

Playing 2 DMs and still getting absolutely sliced apart :wenger: :wenger:

Might as well bring on Moutinho for some control.

Almost a suicidal pass from Bernardo there. Good save from Patricio to end a good half.

Portugal needs a midfield presence and make sure someone marks Gosens.

It's because the wingbacks are where the overload is happening, having 2 central DMs actually makes it even worse because none can get out to help the fullback. France had Rabiot and Pogba on either side of the midfield helping out

Griezmann and Rabiot also often tracked back to help, their shape in defence was a flat 442 basically

Jota and Bernardo not so much, and Semedo and Guerreiro are just poor defenders, especially the former

Doesn't help that Carvalho & Danilo are statues. That's why the best DM's aren't necessarily the big dudes but the most athletic guys. Guys like Casemiro, Fernandinho and Fabinho (all Brazilians) don't get walked past as easily.

I’d fancy either of these sides to knock England out fairly comfortably based on what I’ve seen so far.

Good. That would let us bring in Sancho sooner and let Rashford and Shaw get some fecking rest before training begins.
