Russia and China have been annexing land for too long. You wonder why others don't want to play friends with them. Eventually they'll pick on the wrong country at the rate they're going.
We do however need to build bridges in the Middle East, going to be difficult when you look at at some of the regimes there though.
Without a doubt, India is going to be an essential partner in the next century for the West to oppose autocratic moves by China in the Asia-Pacific. It's the world's largest democracy after all, even if the democratic part is hanging by a bit of a thread at the moment.

I have a cottage in cz that will let some of my colleagues use. They are currently on route in car from Ukraine to safety of czech Republic. Well mother and 2 year son are, and she is expecting again. Husband had to stay behind. She has a friend with her. She can stay there for free. I will get the some groceries. Least I can fdcking do

I wouldn't be worried about the Middle East, all the gulf states are in constant fear of Iran and beg for the US to help in every way. It has even pushed these countries into friendship with Israel, which would have been unthinkable a generation ago.
my local ikea painted itself the colours of the ukrainian flag over night to show its solidarity with ukraine. it shows that corporations do really care, as well as our leaders.
Isn't looking good for Ukraine. They fought so hard, but ultimately I don't see how they can stop such a huge influx of tanks, planes, rockets... endless soldiers.
Their people are so bravethe fact heavy armour is already approaching the capital shows this will be over by the weekend IMO.
What I don't understand is why Civilians are still driving around the city like everything is normal? Just look at what happened with the tank running over the car.
They were never going to win this. It was about resisting for as long as possible, and hope to instil pride in the younger generations so they may have the spirit and will to reform a democratic Ukraine in the distant future.

From what I can tell after looking into it after a discussion on here, Ukraine having disputed territories in Crimea and Donbas probably ruled them out from being eligible to join NATO. Not sure what they would have had to do to resolve that situation but I imagine they would have had to either get Russia to agree to withdrawal from those regions or formally cede any claim of sovereignty to the land. The former would have been unlikely and the latter unthinkable for Ukraine.
We are in shock. Over the last 10 years we have seen a significant influx of Ukrainians into the country so basically all of us have multiple Ukrainian friends, work with Ukrainians, have met some virtually every day. We organized Euro 2012 together 10 years ago. They all have families in Ukraine, siblings, parents, other relatives. I'm trying to get in touch with everyone I know to see if they need any help, and the stories I'm hearing are just terrible. I know there have been wars around the world forever, but nothing has hit home like this before due to how close we are with Ukrainians, probably more so than any other European nation.
There is a fair share of morons who are not on their side in this (we've seen a lot of likely Russia-driven misinformation for the last few weeks, and years to be fair) but the majority are really trying to be helpful and prepare for the influx of people from across the border.
Also there's plenty of fear that Poland will be next, which is not really warranted in my view, but will still cause plenty of chaos. E.g. we had 50-car long queues for fuel yesterday because people thought we'd run out of reserves. There will be more and more of this.
People are failing to understand that Ukraine had a test run for this in 2013-14 with the Euromaidan protests. People realised then how far they were willing to go to keep Ukraine independent. It's nothing do with propaganda about it being "great to die for your country". That stance with the occupation in Crimea and war in Donbas has only hardened over 8 years.
It's not like people had the same options we did before Brexit where we can just freely move and find work across the EU. Ukrainians know and understand that if they want a prosperous and stable future for themselves and their future generations, they will have to fight for it. The gulf between what Ukraine could be and what it would be as a puppet state under Putin is a cause many are willing to sacrifice for. This isn't some trivial matter or war for dubious purpose.
There would be slightly stronger sanctions but that's about it, in all likelihood.
I really wouldn't worry about Biden, US soldiers are in those countries and once a few of them die in a Russian strike, the US population will demand blood in a way few other countries can. I would worry about the other leaders though. Luckily, we'll do Russia if needed, with or without the others.
I'm sure this will stop Russian tanks and missiles from destroying Kiev and the rest of Ukraine.
I feel like the russian gas conversation is far too one sided. I.e. We only ever talk about the gas flowing in our direction that Europe 'needs' (do we?) but there is hardly any talk of the money sent in the other direction, straight to the pockets of the most dangerous terriorist on the planet.
The media needs to make a far bigger deal of how every Joe/jane Bloggs in Europe is directly funding evil. Perhaps people would be more willing to wear an extra layer at home or do a few star-jumps every now and again if this was talked about more.

The main issue is that it's a bit pointless and it hurts them too. Last time I checked China desperately need oil and are purchasing it literally from everyone, so unless you also put an embargo on China they will purchase all the oil that Russia can provide.

Same here with the fuel, massive queues for it. Wife went shopping yesterday and even thought she bought almost nothing it cost 90 zloty, so either that shop raised their prices in response or something dodgy happened.

Nah prices have been crazy for a while. Gas prices went up though.

We don't drive so haven't seen the gas prices, people posted videos all over facebook about the lines though. Had someone even asking where the bomb shelters are on spotted, just in case.
