Uh... it was the fact that we were about to give Ukraine NATO membership that started all of this shit.
Hindsight is 20/20 of course, but it would have been better for them to stay "neutral" but with a democratic government. It looks like now they will have an autocratic one.

If you corner them, surely the chances of the enemy using nuclear threats are higher? If they have nothing to lose, they will resort to nuclear weapons.
It really does. Regarding the exclusion of women, we're just too backwards and regarding not having any mandatory military service at all, we're just pampered by a long time of peace, not understanding the fragility of it.

Funny that Snowden was quite vocal about his thoughts about the Canadian truck convoy and Justin Trudeau but his feed is now radio silent about this invasion.
Interesting. I never expected Erdogan to speak up on this. If anything I thought he would be the NATO member staying friendly to Putin.

I don't live in Moldova and my parents, over there are really worried. My social media feeds are full of support for Ukraine, but there are definitely people who live on russian propaganda. The government imposed emergency situation yesterday and the airport was closed and flights diverted to Romania (due to proximity to Odessa).
These 2 days had been very stressful for me, to say the least. Moldova, politically speaking, is like a miniature version of Ukraine, imo. Separatist area on the eastern border (with russian troops stationed there), pro-EU president that took office following years of pro-Russia presidency and a considerable minority of ethnic Russians living in the country.
Turkey and Russia are arguably the two greatest rivals of the past 500 years. Deep down he knows Putin would love to take back "Constantinople". He will deal with Putin as a counterweight to the West but at the end of the day, he's just as afraid as anyone bordering Russia.
This, just like Biden, Boris and Co they're just looking out for themselves.
How can they stay neutral after having Crimea annexed? Ukranian govenment members probably had hundereds of meetings with EU and NATO leaders, and I am sure each and every one of those officials were assuring Ukranian government of support. If you see hundred thousand troops on the border you know exactly what will follow. You do your best to save the country or you just let it happen. It is your choice of course, but the message Putin and China got is very clear. Biden said we are not going to send our troops, Putin said well fecking done.

It would be the end of the NATO if the other members wouldn't help a NATO member being attacked.
As @Skåre Willoch wrote, the message to Putin regarding NATO members is pretty clear.
Sadly they are practically debt free compared to the rest of Europe, any sanctions against them will probably hurt Europe more. I mean if Putin cuts the gas, Eastern Europe, Germany and Italy are fecked.

Maybe the way it was done back in the days, I agree. I did it as well and I know the obvious flaws. It was a joke. But those are two completely different problems, right? I mean, make it one year and restructure the whole program - my idea isn't about repeating failed concepts, but create a new, successful one. Both stages - "if" and "how" - need to be adressed.
I haven't been exposed to Russian propaganda. But that's OK. Your reaction to my post meets my expectations.

We have the infrastructure, technology and manpower to improvise wihtout major issues, if need be. Economically, we're no failure. Military wise and politically on the international stage, yes.
Seems like it may have Russian forces in a Ukrainian tank. It is all a little confusing even though smart people are trying to clear it up.
Trump talked tough but America withdrew from the world under his leadership and as such lost its capacity to influence. Eg NATO. People like Putin dont pay attention to tough talk, they pay attention to capability and the will to use it.
It does feel like NATO need to put countries under their protection whilst there's talks underway.
Whether Putin invaded because of it or just used it for a domestic audience, there's no doubting that he wouldn't have invaded if he believed NATO would actually defend Ukraine. That's not shifting fault it's recognising mistakes.
He's not saying you have, he's saying that post like yours help Russian propaganda. And he's completely right.

Agree with this also, i don't want our soldiers dying again either. But it's also hard and infuriating watching putin do whatever he wants.
He has been since the start. He reiterates it in every broadcast and appeals to the Russian people to protest. Will be interesting to see if the crowds grow in major Russian cities tonight.
Definitely seems that way. Kyiv Independent reported elsewhere that Russians are taking over Ukrainian vehicles and wearing uniforms too. I'll try to find it.
