It’s even worse here now. At least in Belgium, getting citizenship is much quicker for spouse. Ukrainians also have visa-free access to Schengen too. Finally being in the EU, you could use the option of simply going to any other EU country and your spouse being able to join you to live instantly without draconian visas and fees.
We should have done that in hindsight after marriage, gone to live in Germany or Italy.

I freely admit that I have no desire to fight or die in a war because the latter will happen to me very quickly (never had the training for it, for one).
I also appreciate your position but I also think a lot of 'tough guys' attitude is about going all-in on sanctions, targeting those close to Putin and generally trying to undermine him within. It feels to me there's a lot more that could be done before we engage Russia.
Abramovich's daughter was publicly opposing Putin's war yesterday. Surely, this can be used to subvert this guy and push for change in Russia.

All of that while Russia has not finished with COVID, which has claimed at least 752 lives over there yesterday? Madness.
Is Germany even letting us fly weapons over its airspace as we had to route all the anti tank missiles around their airspace a few weeks ago

Japan, maybe. But I don't see China as being expansionist enough to go for Australia.
The global empire that China's building is one that's made up of trading posts and shipping ports for the financial betterment of the Han majoirty in the East of the country. They're not going to colonise or set up puppet govenments in non-contiguous parts of the world. There's too much profit to be made from economically dominating Australia rather than militarily doing so.
Unlike most historical empires, the goal for China is money rather than glory. That prevailing insularity and monoculturalism is a big part of what defines China at all.
Japan, obviously, is a different matter. There's too much history in that one for China to be entirely rational.

You do wonder how COVID has impacted this whole situation, and more pertinently the recovery from it. And not simply just in sending Vlad the Mad further round the bend.
As Western/EU/Scandinavian countries look to be reaching the end of their pandemics, thanks to their vaccines and natural immunity nullifying the worst of new variants, Russia is sort of still on the flip side.
I'm sure Putin is very wary of the optics and potential impact on his public perception of a situation where Western Europe and even some former Soviet states are able to step ahead of Russia in their recovery process.

It wasn't a fair response. One can want retaliation and also understand that an all-out war is a terrible outcome. People seem to underestimate that the issue isn't really for the people willing and able to fight but for the fact that war largely affect millions of people that aren't fighters kids, elderly and various people that can't fight, they will be collateral damages either due to bombs, bullets or humanitarian crisis(lack of food, medicines, clean water, heating).
There is nothing better than peace whether one wants it or not.

Good to see condemnation coming from many sides. Hopefully all these signals and small moments catch on to the Russian elite & population. We need so much more internal resistance against Putin.
Really wish that was the case. But sadly not.
The RAF website shows some 130 Typhoon. But almost 30% of these are either just tail numbers i.e. not active aircraft, or they are the initial Trance 1 jets that are being removed from service because they are not capable of much.
Operational Typhoon are actually just over 100.
And the F35 only amount to the low 20's.
