Claimed to be a German SMArt 155mm submunition taking out some kind of armored vehicle. If so this is the first time I have seen one of these used. It is a very advanced type of artillery munition which realeses 2 parachuted submunitions over the battlefield that scans the ground using IR sensors and radar for targets and when a target is found it fires a armor penetrating projectile at the target.

Why is it we need peace talks again?
We don't, but the Russians were always going to push like mad for it when they think they've gone as far as they can. Wait and see if there's more of this to come.
Its looking like "gamechangers" might not have been an inappropriate description of these things.

We need peace talks in order to give Poland to Russia without any more fighting. Because Poland was Russian in 1800. Or else Putin might get upset and they will threaten with nuclear war. Do you want a nuclear war or do you want peace?
If we give them the longer range ATACMS missiles, they would be able to hit Sevastopol from Mykolaiv and even deeper into Russian-held territory. I think the concern is that they could also use them to strike about 300 km into Russia too. I don't see what the issue is, but maybe they can bee used to cripple the Black Sea fleet to open up shipping lanes again.
Eventually the Russians will adapt somewhat to the current set of HIMARS missiles, but, if they receive the longer range missiles, Russia's adjustment (moving depots further back from the lines) won't be as effective.
I also seem suggestions that the S400 hasn't been able to shoot down any of the HIMARS missiles as is. If that's true, it would mean that the Ukrainians could strike into Crimea and other long-held positions.

This is Zelenskyy’s first real test. Attacking is much harder than defending. Be interesting to see how it plays out.

Yeah you'd think the dozen or so assassination attempts, armoured and aerial assault and rallying calls all while being plum centre of Kiev against a 300,000 strong army with countless tanks and rocket units might be a consideration there. The fact that Ukraine is thinking about an offensive AT ALL is verging on the miraculous given all my personal hopes and fears in the first days of the war. A lot of experts didn't give the Ukrainians a weekend to survive and look where they are now. Still in the fight and kicking back.
Exactly. If Ukraine can regain enough control of the coastline in order to widen the corridor for their ships, it would be a massive relief for everyone depending on Ukrainian grain and other products as well.
Not to mention moving danger from Odessa.
Following on from this (Lavrov's statement about the west blocking peace talks). They will of course use all their influence and agents in the west to push the same narrative to try and put pressure on Ukraine to sit down for talks.

I expect to see Fox News and the like pushing the same talking points very soon, if they aren't already. They'll try and turn public opinion in this direction, and no doubt succeed, they are very good at this.
It will of course still make no difference to Ukraine and their main backers.

While the Russian Army is suffering from a severe case of himarrhoids and everyone is caught up in that, the UA army will still need equipping with lots more 155mm platforms and munitions.
The long rage GPS guided rockets of HIMARS are great for sniping warehouses, command posts and other high value assets. But they can’t play the role of peppering an area to prevent the advance (or force the retreat) of mechanised infantry. They are too few and too expensive for that. Both the platforms and the rockets that is.
Surely NATO countries have a shit ton of M109a2+ platforms hanging around that they can reasonably quickly repair and deliver to UA army. And train them on how to use them. If they can pick-up Caesars, M777s and PzH2ks that quickly then the M109s should be a walk in the park. Cause yeah, high-end arty is great, but sometimes large volumes of low-end stuff scan also deliver a powerful punch. It’s basically what Russia’s been doing through the whole war so far.
