I think we need to separate Ronaldo’s exit from Ronaldo’s replacement.
If Memphis is available for ~€10m, then it’d be silly to not bring him in regardless of Ronaldo going or staying. He might not be the best for EtH, but he gives us some assurance up top, provides depth, can play a variety of positions and means we’re not so reliant on Ronaldo. It also means we’re not breaking the bank to get him in.
Ronaldo leaving is a separate issue and the ball is in his court. He either needs to bite the bullet and drop his wage demands to a point where a club takes a punt on him, or accept he will have a minimal role this season.
It doesn’t make any sense to be locked into any agreement for Osimhen at this stage. The striker market could be vastly different next summer. In any case, if we do make a marquee signing next summer then there’s no reason it can’t be Osimhen.
For me, this year is a free hit / transitional year for EtH. Top 4, Europa and deep run in the cups are gettable targets. Let’s get someone like Memphis in and then see where we are next summer.
