F1 2022 Season

How come I thought it was 5 places pen?

The smaller penalties are applied before the larger ones. So if Perez and Sainz qualify 3rd and 4th Max's 5 place pen effectively becomes 3 places.

If I had to bet it'll be Leclerc, Alonso, Russell and then Max in 4th.

Updated Grid Penalties
With Esteban Ocon, Kevin Magnussen and Mick Schumacher now all confirmed to be taking grid penalties, here is all nine drivers now set to be dropping down the order:
  • Max Verstappen - 5 places
  • Esteban Ocon- 5 places
  • Mick Schumacher- 10 places
  • Sergio Perez - 10 places
  • Kevin Magnussen- 15 places
  • Valtteri Bottas - 15 places
  • Carlos Sainz - back of grid
  • Lewis Hamilton - back of grid
  • Yuki Tsunoda - back of grid

Russell or Alonso could take pole.

Haas' car has turned into a complete disaster this season. Shame because they were so competitive in the first 2 races.

aston martin honouring the queen by driving at hearse pace.

Vettel always acting surprised at missing out on Q2 even though it happens every week.

So how are penalties applied? In which order?

for example if Max is p1, and two guys with penalties are say p4 and p5, does he effectively end up third? Or does he still start 6th with others continuing to be bumped

Was K Mag out of Q3 before his laptime was deleted? They spent all of last season developing the 2022 car and since its launch it's just got slower and slower. They have not brought many upgrades either.

As far as I understand it, yes.

If any of Hamilton, Perez and Sainz qualify behind him, within 5 places, his penalty is effectively reduced.

So all 3 qualify behind him and I think he'll end up 4th

So Ferrari have pole position at Monza, with all their direct rivals taking grid penalties. Leclerc seems poised to win this. What could possibly go wrong, right?
