Russian invasion of Ukraine | Fewer tweets, more discussion

Getting to the point where the West has to have a firmer stance on the situation. Russia is being allowed to get away with so much.

If I was casting director for a film and they told me 'we got this actor to play the bad terrorist general' I'd say to them that he looks too much the part; if they couldn't get someone who could play it more subtle. He radiates nastiness.
Personally I'm getting George Doors Vibes ... recon he's got a pink onesie underneath

Will anything happen now that Russia is all but a terrorist state in name?
It's not like they've done something drastically different to what they've done previously. The cynicism of shelling Ukrainian cities as a direct response for blowing up a bridge (although to be fair 4 people did die) stands out but they have been doing it for many months.

Ukraine will have been preparing the Belarus border for months. If they do get involved in the war they'll be walking into a massacre. Surely given the situation in Ukraine right now with Russians having huge losses the Belarus military must be nervous to get involved? Is Lukashenko in a strong position?

You are a bit crazy aren't you
Nah, I’m just tired seeing Russia get away with everything basically. I’m not suggesting attacking Russia or anything though. It’s not meant to be used as it would be a deterrence from Russia acting stupid. They have given up their nukes by the way as part of the agreement that they would be protected.

No - but he's in n even worse situation if he goes against Russia

Yes likely walking into a huge bear trap but it will still divert resource away from the push south so in that context even a massing of troops on the border who then stand down would help in that context

He's been evading direct involvement by the Belarus military since February but even his near-magical ability to do feck all while appearing to be supportive of Putin has its limits, especially since he can't keep balancing between Russia & the West like he did previously. Putin is in a zugzwang so he may force Lukashenko to move... but we'll only know for sure when it happens.

Wonder whats the situation like with UAF in the north.

Doubt they are worried about Belarus in the slightest. It occupies some units but that’s it. If Belarus invades however, they won’t be needed there for long.

Boggles the mind they have all these cruise missiles available and they are not using them against air defence, artillery positions, supplies and logistics routes, etc. Not used one iota to help their struggling front line troops.

Absolutely bonkers.

The Ukrainians knew Russia would retaliate like this. As long as Ukraine continues to focus on the battlefield and Russia on war crimes, Ukraine is winning the war.

Now is the time to really step up Ukrainian support and give them everything they need to really turn the tide against the invaders.

We have been hearing this bs for ages, the Ukrainians would have already been operating it now and built the infrastructure if they would been delivered sooner.
I couldn't say, but I'm skeptical. However maybe it's time to do that. I think most everyone analyzing this from the outside still thought Russia would grind out victory in a few years, until the most recent Ukrainian offensive. But obviously we don't have a clear idea of how dire the Russian equipment, logistics and manufacturing situation is.

How many fake parts can China provide and how long until they break? Is the Air Force about to be grounded for these reasons? It seems like they should run out of artillery pieces at some point based on the rounds fired and life of the weapons.

I've been encouraged by all that the US has provided. They will want to appear to respond to this day of terror, I think.

I know, it was a rash thing to say I’m incredibly sad to see it’s being allowed to go on, those videos are heartbreaking.
Time to send the super spies in to kill members of the leadership in a way that makes it look natural.

Khodorkovsky says the reason we haven't heard much about Russian hackers since the war began is because they all left the country. Same with 30,000 IT specialists, resulting in, among other things, Russian YouTube "RuTube" crashing.

Even now he isn't talking about preparing an attack on Ukraine, but about preparing for an attack by Ukraine on Belarus. To me it looks like he keeps trying dragging it along while not actually entering Ukraine/ the war. I'm quite sure that he right now hopes for Putin to fall before he can be forced to enter the war

Being part of the shared Russian/Belarussian troops might be the safest place for a Russian mobilized soldier for some time, until somehow either this common troops enter Ukraine together or the Russian part of them on its own.

I bet his nickname at school was The Eel.

Friend in Kyiv told me they just got alerts to take cover again.

Also, they’ve got no electricity today and internet is up and down.

Russian death toll for Bakhmut must be staggering - I swear they’ve been attacking the town for about a month non stop now.

What is this sick constraint that partners are putting on Ukraine by not allowing them to attack Russian military bases inside Russia? They can carpet bomb the civilians but got forbid Ukraine retaliates on military targets? Every constraint is seen as a sign of weakness and gives them confidence they’ll get away with it and sure they do.

I dunno but there are no such constraints in reality. Reports of targets hit in Belogrod this morning
