I have seen that happen loads of times without a penalty. Both Max and Lewis did it more that once last year.

Perhaps the difference being he actively blocked off Perez at the last moment too (Perez had to hit the brakes to avoid a collision after Leclerc changed his line at the final moment) who didn't make a mistake and had far more speed after the corner, in order to stay ahead and thus he gained an advantage. Penalty was correct in my opinion, but only because it was the final lap. If it wasn't I imagine they would have resolved it by making Leclerc give up the position after a quick review which would have been fine too. In any case Leclerc simply buckled under pressure (again) so can't have too many complaints really.

Becoming a bit of a worrying trend with Leclerc. Fantastic driver when it's all going well, but he seems to lack that mental fortitude that Verstappen/Hamilton has.
If he can't get over this pressure issue, he's going to find it hard to beat Max.

I started watching F1 while Lewis was dominant and almost everyone insisted the FIA was handing him titles. Some pointed out that every champion gets hit with this rubbish by people who dislike him and I wondered if it was true. Nice to know that it was.
I hate Herbert. Maybe it's his obsession with "Lewis".

Congratulations to Max for winning the title. He thoroughly deserved it but the fact that not even the race/title winner new that he had won the title 5 minutes after the race is crazy.
McLaren are the ones who should be pissed about the points allocation, it's given Alpine an extra 5 points in the constructors.

I'm sure you do but my point is that officials are criticised in every sport and always made out to be the worst officials in any sport. Imo, its just a difficult job and impossible to please everyone

Regardless of the result today, the main story for me was the crane on track before the red flag. After what happened with Bianchi at this track in these conditions as well. Someone has fecked up big time. I was angry watching it live on Sky listening to Chandhock trying to lay the blame at Gasly for driving too fast under yellow / red flag conditions.
I just can’t understand how these cranes don’t have a large blinking light system to highlight its on track in these conditions, I don’t think there was even the small yellow light on this.
He was right though. The tractor being on track when it shouldn't and Gasly's speeding are completely separate things. Tractor or not Gasly was going twice as fast as he should in the conditions, through double yellows that became a red flag, past an accident where he knew there'd be marshals on the track.
Gasly is doing what all drivers would do in that situation. Pit, and then under the double yellows drive to the delta to reach the back of the crocodile behind the safety car.
He was about a second away from the crane when the race was red flagged. At that point the danger had been created and someone had sent that crane onto the circuit. Surely you would wait till all the cars had lined up behind the safety car and had driven slowly past the scene so that everyone had an idea of where the accident is and where recovery vehicles might be.
It shouldn't be on the racetrack at all until all the cars are behind the safety car. In the last race they threw a track is green while marshalls were trying to pull Latifis wing from a safety barrier.
They were developing 2022 the car in 2021 so any overspend in 2021 would have influenced last year's car and this year's and will also influence next year's as they obviously have the strongest base to develop from. So in actuality it has 100% bearing on how dominant RBR have been in this campaign. In theory if the overspend is found and RBR can't explain it they could lose last year's and this year's WDC and this years contructors.
What I don't fully understand on the overspend is they tracked the spend using the rules in 2020 but just didn't have any thresholds. Unless they then changed the rules significantly going into 2021 or the spending profile was completely different, there should be very little room for interpretation.
A very big well done to both Max and his Red Bull team. While not really challenged, the team did so much right which the rest did so much wrong.
Hopefully next year there will be much more of a challenge from Ferrari and Mercedes and maybe others as well.

I think there is some interpretation around spending on Engines, and RBR have obviously brought that "In house" since 2020.
That would make sense yeah. Still, one can argue that is a risk they took on and should have well known what was and wasn't allowable and presuambly got clarifications from the FIA completely on that at the time. One thing is for sure: if RBR are the ones guilty of the big over-spend and the FIA throw the book at them. Many heads would have to roll at that team.
Let's wait and see instead of believing what their direct competition are saying.

Lewis was gifted titles by the FIA being slow to change the rules to curtail Mercedes dominance. That's the difference to everything that's gone before. Nothing has ever happened like last season before.
Funnily enough with Max as a fully deserving winner they fecked it up and couldn't tell him if he was champion or not. Ive never seen the FIA like this, its like they think its their job to be part of the entertainment. Now to see how they worm out of rescinding last season's title again, probably a hefty fine or something for the team, just enough to keep the drivers championship intact.

The FIA may have been slow to change the rules.
But he wasn't gifted anything. Lewis Hamilton and the Mercedes team were simply better at what they were doing than the opposition.
In exactly the same way that Max Verstappen and Red Bull have been better this season and therefore deserve to have won.
But let's not acknowledge Max achievements by disparaging those of Lewis.

totally disagree about Lewis being gifted anything, Mercedes were just better, did the FIA also gift Nico his WC ?
Jules Bianchi had his accident at Suzuka too. Makes one wonder whether all these newish restrictions that have made racing worse (no refueling, no real rain races etc.) are worth it when the organisers evidently don't give a flying feck about safety.

In much the same way Brabham, Lotus, Williams, Ferrari and plenty of other cars were just better at the time. The FIA have always stepped in after a couple of seasons to even things up. Mercedes had 8 years of unchecked dominance. It doesn't diminish Hamilton's achievements but you have to acknowledge the FIA's inaction allowed him a virtually free run at a few of those titles.

They DID get an early advantage with the engine - that's fair to say, but no reason why the others couldn't get it done.
Heck even Ferrari had an illegal engine and still couldn't win the title
