Soccer is about the 6th sport. It only gets a slight bit of attention because there are so many people. Some of the teams do everything in Spanish because their only supporters are Latin American.
I will not watch a single second of it, so below zero.

Yeah maybe after the last PL game for this mini season I’ll become more up for it. Given the caf descends into madness every international break given the lack of club football, I can see the WC at least stopping some of the weirder threads getting started!
Really it all depends how your team does, if England get a bit of hype around them everyone will get invested.
True, it's a bit selfish. I even get that the move to winter means the climate is better to be active, both for fans and players in Qatar. And it would matter to me if there was a chance for the fans to use it. But as Qatar isn't suited for modern life it just won't be possible there.
I would be far more on board if for example Uruguay hosted the world cup in their summer/our winter than Qatar doing it, as I am sure that country would allow the fans much more to be fans.
Yeah that absolutely would be better for me personally, too. However, I have to be aware that what I consider the “true football experience” is not the same in every country and culture.

I agree. Plus for the bigger players it will diminish their chances to play at one of the oil-clubs as they wouldn't want to be called out for having double-standards and the club wouldn't want a player speaking up.

Even if its the 6th sport in the US, the 2018 final itself had a viewership of 12 million. That's like more than six times the population of Qatar.
It won't really promote it though, the stadiums will go unused because the demand simply isn't there for the size of stadiums. If they are used then they will never be close to full. The locals have no real interest in local football, the attendances are still very low despite the World Cup creating hype for years. in 2017 the average league attendance was about 700 per game. I've no issue with smaller nations getting World Cups but I do think they should be given to those where the potential is clearly there for there to be a lasting legacy for the people of the country, I don't see that being the case with Qatar.
It's not a blinkered view, I've watched 90% of their games the last few years. Barring Afif and Almoez they are of poor level. Their ranking is skewed from 2019 when they were extremely effective at bus parking and countering and won the AFC. They've maintained that by having favourable seedings in Asia due to that success. Panama qualifying was also a freak, they upset the USA so deserved to be there. Qatar are an extremely low level side. They are literally trying to arrange friendlies right now v C teams to get any sort of win to boost morale.

That's true, but it's the simple answer to this thread for me personally - it doesn't fit my expectations, so I am not interested.
I just HATE that it's in the winter. Doesn't feel legit. It always needs to be in the summer. I hope this doesn't set a pattern.

Hope all the important United players are either left out of the World Cup squads or suffer early eliminations (through no fault of their own), or just don't play many matches themselves. It being mid-season means that I don't give a feck about them doing well and it's all on just coming back fit and fresh for the 2nd half of the season.
A little excited because it is the World Cup and its nice to be able watch football while being somewhat neutral about the majority of games.
The location/clearly corrupt awarding of the WC to Qatar to begin with/winter World Cup etc all dampen the normal level of excitement though.

I haven’t watched international football since Capello‘s days so zero interest in the WC. I just hope the 4 or 5 Forest players taking part come back in one piece.
I’m gutted that the first WC Wales qualify for in my lifetime is quite inaccessible to me, would’ve loved to have gone as Euro 2016 was one of the best times of my life. However, obviously still excited that Wales are involved.
Don’t get all the uproar about the timing, as others have stated, other leagues get stopped for it every other time it’s on, we are being a bit precious about that.
As for the lack of hype, that’s just because club football is still running, no TV or media channels are going to be publicising the WC while they still have the PL and CL etc to plug beforehand. Imagine it gets ramped up considerably once club games are on stop.

I am still excited about this world cup. Every world cup has charisma on its own. In terms of footballing, it's worth enough to watch since it's held every 4 years in different countries around the world. I still want to watch every player put 100 percent effort into their own countries for one goal: world champion. Human rights in Qatar are abused on a significant scale affecting the likeability of this world cup from a lot of football fans around the world. I hate the way Qatar treats workers and people, but I'm still standing that I will watch this world cup.

I think this forum needs a general population perspective here. The WORLD CUP is the single most watched sporting event in the World every time and that will not change. The audience views will be over 1 billion again and it will once again reign supreme. Millions will travel to Qatar as well and create the same madness as always. I honestly feel that this forum severely overestimate how much the general population cares about the politics of Qatar. Just wait and see.. once again the world stops for 1 month(other than maybe the US and Canada) for this sport.
I also want to to say something that I hope don't offend anyone here. During the short time I been reading this forum it feels like most of you guys dislike football and is just on here to 'group complaint' about how bad the game has gotten, about City, about United, and every thing football related imaginable. Once again I didn't read every thread, but almost all the threads I'm reading are just negativity all around...
To be fair, this is a internet forums thing more so than a redcafe thing. Forum guys are unique in that they don't represent the general fan audience of the particular sport they are talking about. You go on boxing forums and it seems like they hate boxing.... same with basketball forums....

Wrong season, wrong host, my country doesn’t participate. Haven’t been less interested in a WC ever before. Hope that worldwide audience will disappoint so this shit won’t ever happen again!
Not to this degree though, usually you'll get a few high profile injuries but usually there's a three week or so gap between end of the season and the start of the world cup, with the premiership it's just 8 days, gives players with niggles minimal recovery time.
Not excited, just want it to be done so I can watch Manchester United again, had it been in the summer, and not in Qatar, then option 2.
Not excited at all - I'm disgusted by the selection process, human rights issues and the lack of shame of FIFA. Not planning to support this event in any regard, if I decide to watch some games it will be via unofficial streams.
On a personal level I'm a bit sad FIFA didn't go full shit few years later than it actually did
when I was a kid I would be dreaming about following the Polish national team to the World Cups when I finally get my degree, job and can afford it, fast forward a couple of years, our national team is not even so bad (despite inept coach), I could save enough to go pretty much anywhere I want, but the World Cups are in fecking Russia and Qatar of all places, zero pleasure in staying there for more than a couple of days. Sounds like I was when the USA hosted without England.
I will watch the 3 USA matches and maybe the final. I think this entire World Cup is fecked, from the corruption that landed it in Qatar, to the winter timing. My team is in it so I will watch, especially as we failed to qualify last time, but the whole affair has an odious stench about it.
