We wouldn’t be competing for the title, there is a huge gulf between us and City, it’s a completely flawed logic that one player closes that gap.

No club will give him £300k, why are we being reported to offer him such when not up against any competition. £100m I can understand because we might be daft enough and trying to get Tottenham to sell but the wages is a no go.
Generally I have my reservation but won’t mind him added to the squad. When he starts performing like Rooney we have to bench him and not get involved in the “ but he can still give you goals” conversation. I don’t mind him coming here and starts declining in a year but bench or get rid when it happens. There will be nothing to be patient about then because it’ll be past his prime and not a 24yr old expected to come good.

Both of us can only speculate, but if you are right that Harry Kane can sustain the level he's at right now for 4-5 years, a 100m transfer fee plus 300k/week in wages is a steal...bite Levy's hand off before he decides to demand 200m.
 
Aside from 100 mil being a ridiculous price for a 30 year old with 1 year on his contract, but worst of all, it hands 100 mil to one of our closest competitors in the league, which they'll then use to buy the player we should have bought, and two more.

You can almost guarantee that we will. This is the club that gave Sancho £350k & De Gea £375k when not up against any competition. We love handing out ridiculous contracts.

We just need to look at how dramatically Casemiro has dropped off in the second half of the season to provide an example for why dropping such money on older players is a massive gamble.
 
He ran further than anyone else on the pitch yesterday. He is also faster than people give him credit for. and he is so hard to knock off the ball. His pass for Son's goal was sublime, I can think of only 2 other players in the Pl who could maybe do that - KDB and TAA.

Who do you think would be the top PL scorer this season if Kane played for City and Haaland played for Spurs? He would improve us massively.

This level of idiocy should not be entertained by the fans but from what I’m reading here, the fans have no problem with it. These are the contracts that have led to our current state because you can’t move them on when they underperform.
 
@Rojofiam Lewandowski is not slow or drops deep. Maybe at Bayern but for Barca he stretches the pitch, at the start of the season he was getting adjusted.
Wrong use of a player in your argument.

All this doesnt mean much. Kane is on the wrong side of 30 and paying 100m for him is just giving a major rival cash to go buy the player to replace kane plus 2 other top quality options. Kane will not close the gap to mancity....one player cant do that. We would rather spend that money on a cheaper option plus fix 2 other gaps in our squad. If we blow 100m on Kane, it will be proof that we have learnt nothing from the previous decade
 
He'll possibly stay a Spurs until 2024. Then a couple of years at Chelsea/United/Newcastle to finally break Shearer's record.
 
I hope we stay away. Investing in a 30 years old Kane will be a disaster in the future, not to mention the guy is a massive bottler when it comes to finals and crucial games. This will come bite us in the arse so badly like the Sanchez one.

This transfer will just prove that United learned feck all from previous mistakes.
 
Unless the takeover makes finances a non-issue, I'm afraid Kane will be an expensive, declining big-game bottler we'll be stuck with at the cost of holistically improving our team.

People were judging Casemiro as shit and past it when he first came here. Let’s look at what happened after that as a reason not to write players off when they hit 30.
 
I thought ETH would want a more intense, pressing forward, even if he were not a objectively “good” as Kane. This seems like exactly the kind of signing United have been going for for the last decade.

18/19 (their best ever CL campaign): 1 goal each against Barcelona (group stage), Dortmund (r16), no goals in quarter-finals, semi-finals and the final

Here is a reddit post from a Spurs fan from 2 years ago highlighting how poor Kane has been against top 6 opposition - he's not gotten better since.

"So in terms of goals in big games, Kane’s tally is 3, 2, 5, 5, 3, which amounts to a total of 18 goals in 46 games, 6 of them penalties
Honestly shocked at this return when I ended up doing further research, especially 16-17, which is when we were at our peak. 12 open play goals from 46 games is not that impressive though

Harry Kane has historically been statistically poor at scoring or assisting in big games for both club and country. That's a simple fact.

Playing for sides on the periphery of (being generous) or just plain outside of the elite, in England and Tottenham. The best playmaker he's played with is Eriksen, who's good, sometimes really good, but not De Bruyne levels. I'd argue Bruno is a better no.10 (although Eriksen has other strengths in terms of controlling possession or playing 'pass before the assist', even if, again, he's no Modric). As a comparison between (I'd argue similarly elite) strikers, look at Lewandowski's record in tournaments for Poland, then look at how he did for a top-table Bayern side in Europe with numerous potential creators and a higher system level.
 
They would be stupid not to sell him this summer. Going to end up mid table next season either way

The counter argument is that they remained in the periphery because he doesn't show up with goals when they need him to. There's only so much your supporting cast can do when the primary goal scorer doesn't turn up for the big games.

The whys of those stats are indeed subjective in individual seasons or teams or competitions, but when it's consistent across the board across the years, I'd go with the simplest explanation.

Still think he'd be a massive upgrade on what we do have, just making the point that he's not worth, by himself, the compromise of the team missing out on less flashy but more functional upgrades across other positions.

Yeah...Harry Kane is the REASON Spurs have historically underachieved. That tracks...
 
Do not want unless cheap. Spine of the team is already old, this would be squad planning Woodward would be proud of.

If we can snag as a stop gap, great, if not, should be looking elsewhere. We literally just went through this with Ronaldo.

I want to preface this by saying I am a huge fan of Casemiro, but in the end people were sort of proven right. He had a fantastic first half of the season, but his form has fallen off a cliff in the second half.

Giving Tottenham 100 million just seals Kane fate tbh, no player has lived up to that price tag.

Offer Spurs a sensible fee (60-70 million) and if they want to run the risk of him leaving for fee next summer they can reject it.
