To be fair, the first season and so, Maguire has been reliable player when our defences were in shambles. Credit when due.
Yeah, it's pretty obvious this is rubbish. Maguire's been on the bench all season. He knew he was getting stripped of the captaincy because he was no longer first choice. And also because everyone in football was aware United were looking to sell him. He's been nothing but professional and a team player since getting dropped, with zero complaints since it happened. It wouldn't make sense for him to suddenly start leaking negative comments now, considering we're finally in the transfer window and everything else mentioned above.
The only "stupid" or "deluded" people are the ones who believe The Sun. You'd think the Huw Edwards saga would have taught them something.
Well, Sanchez did play well against city when they could have won the title against us at the Etihad.
And of course, we're believing The Sun when they post something negative about Maguire.

Tbf till now we had many worse imo. Sancho for example. At least we don't have to pay Maguire 350k a week and got two decent seasons out of him.
Imo he's still actually a pretty decent CB especially for a team who sit back and counter. Hope he'd move on and rebuild his career elsewhere. Best for all parties involved imo.
Now he has been relieved of the captaincy he will probably play with more freedom which will be good for us.
We only have to look at his England form when he was one of the best on show at the last World Cup and he didn't have to worry about the captaincy to realise it is a win,win situation for us.

It's a bit odd that he went ahead and posted that news before the club made an official announcement.
Its got nothing to do with the captaincy. Its got everything to do with him being asked to play in a way he cannot do. Hes not quick, aggressive or nimble so he suits the way England play with 6-7 defensive minded players. United want to play higher up the pitch. Play out from the back. He simply doesn't suit us any more. There is a reason he played his best football under Ole when we were a counter-attacking side.
Could be. It's good that this is even a debate because it shows that we have leaders in the squad, I would add Licha to the conversation too.
Mourinho was malicious and personalizes things. ETH is professional, handles things without prejudice. Don't forget Maguire started last season in the first xi.

What disappoints me, I think, is not that some people criticise him, that's fine - but that it seems to me that there's plenty of United fans who want to kick him when he's down and pour more misery on him.
We know the media love to shred our players but it really does feel like our fans have joined the pile-on at times. I have actually heard boos at times from the Stretford End when he warms up. I just cannot wrap my head around that personally. We've had some genuinely rank-bad players (Fred/Weghorst) that never got that treatment - and nor should they, just because we don't rate them.
He's become symbolic of our failure over the last three or four seasons, but he is far from solely to blame. The fee was always going to be an albatross around his neck but he was largely good for us, until we totally changed the way we wanted to play and forced him out of his comfort zone.
He's not a world class defender but he should go elsewhere, to a team that suits his style, and enjoy the rest of his career. I think people will be surprised how good he can be when/if he goes to a team like West Ham or Spurs.
Best for everybody if he moves on. It hasn't worked, sometimes he was very good, sometimes he was very bad...but I felt we (the fans) treated him quite poorly at times

I was fortunate to be stood just above the goal at Wembley when he scored a header in the Cup semi v Spurs. What made it memorable was that it looked like he was aiming away from the goal, yet still it went in.
He was good for the second halves of his first two seasons. Smalling lost confidence under Ole, who for some reason didn’t like him (Phelan wanting his Hull mate in?) and Maguire’s performances were an improvement.
Another example of ten Hag getting a big decision right with minimal fuss. I imagine it will be Fernandes who replaces him but we've got a few decent contenders around that - Varane, Licha and Casemiro would all be more suitable for the armband than Maguire was. We're starting to behave like a big club again.
Of the 4 years he been with us, he has available most of the time. He played well in the firt 2 years. He doesn't deserve all these abuse. Rojo, Telles, Bailly all played less than him and got off so much easier is unreal.
Sure he doesn't suit us but I don't think he down tools. I hope he move on to a club that better utilizes him.

As glad as I'll be to see him leave, I don't think that's true. He had a good first season, and a very good second one. There's rumored interest from Chelsea, Spurs, Newcastle, which tells the same story: He's really not a bad player. He just isn't what this club needs, playing the kind of football ETH wants.
You really can't have a bench warmer as your captain. Maybe if the player is a legend who's just at the end of their career, like Robbo was at one point, but this is different.
I mean to be fair he's not exactly going to have been happy about it, even if it was obvious.
The fact we're a year in and Teg Hag is still having to sift through undoing stupid decisions made before he got here tells you how much of a mess he inherited.
Bruno gets my vote so long as he doesn't chuck his toys out of his pram when things aren't going his way.
I'm sure Harry is a good guy, but football is a ruthless game. These kind of decisions has to be made. A captain is a leader and an inspiration to his teammates. If your captain is holding the team back and not doing what is required, it's hard to take orders and advice from him.
It's Bruno, of course he will..
Bruno is the obvious (and right) choice, but it's kind of nice that we currently have quite a few additional players you could easily envisage as captain - Varane, Casemiro and Martinez would all fit the bill.
Great players but Varane plays every other game, Casemiro can hardly speak English and Licha has been here for one season.
Luke would only be the other realistic choice.
Shaw has a tendency to dial in his performances when the going gets tough.
Out of our first team, Bruno is the only one I can think of who's:
- been here a while
- speaks English
- is capable of both getting in the face of and putting his arm around all his teammates
- plays like his life is always on the line
He shouldn't have been made captain but rewind to the summer of 2019 and this squad had zero leaders. None of our players were captain material.
DDG would have been the best alternative but he was in the worst form of his career coming off the 18/19 season plus he's not captain material anyway. It was so bad that even Pogba was an option.
The mistake Ole made was he should have waited for the whole season to let a natural leader appear and then choose the captain. He bought too much into the Brexit United idea and gave Maguire a role he just wasn't ready for. Jonny Evans was the leader and captain of his Leicester side along with Schmeichel.
