Maguire | he stays!

United is really the most toxic club.
Maguire isnt loyal for the sake of loyal to the club. He's loyal to the money paid to him. If WH offer the same wage package he will pack his bag asap. Dont give us that Maguire being "loyal" bs. Lets see how loyal he is if the club cut his wage to what WH offered him.

Has no bearing on the money issues but yeah football wise it's hard to imagine a better match for him than WHU. Maybe he'll regret not taking this opportunity.

7 mil or football career. He chose 7 mil. Fair enough. I only hope that there will not be "leaks" from his agent and emotional interviews this season.

Go on Harry, have a look at the table, why settle for us in sixth when you could be challenging for the title with West Ham?

I thought they’d come back or someone else would move for him. I think the run up to Deadline Day is going to be interesting…

He should obviously leave but can we afford to let him go without a replacement? Is Evans staying?

He is loyal to the big money contract, not to the club.

Besides if being “toxic” means getting rid of the dead wood and having a bit of semblance to the likes of Real Madrid where excellence is an expectation, it’s not that bad a thing.

I'm surprised we didn't just sign Edson Alvarez to backup CB and DM and sell West Ham both Mctominay and Maguire. Then 40M to spend wherever else Ten Hag wants, maybe some on a loan for a striker or a young prospect CB since we don't seem to have one close to breaking in.

He's got nothing to prove to you lot!

Better to keep it that way than him getting on the field to “prove” something.

It means our defence is still largely intact in terms of fitness

Why does the thread title now say "Sun Readers"? I honestly wondered if he got in a spat with that rag.

players would hardly move if thats the case. His time is up and time to move on, players usually accept it and start another chapter of their career. It says a lot for him he has no ambition or drive to play football, after already a year being on the bench. Genuinely cant think of a worse captain weve had

I'd say most aren't facing as big a drop in wages as he is. It's the club's fault for throwing money at average players.

I doubt he's alone in wanting to maintain a better salary but I imagine most players take pay cuts of say 20% or so rather than 50%.

Because the football department structure is inept with no ethos, philosophy, or plan and not modernized, from the outside looking in as I could be wrong.

You're right. The club spent about 18 months looking for a director of football and then gave the job to the head scout we already had. It is funny watching them be so bad. They've wasted hundreds of millions through their own incompetence and its less money for the leeches.

He's a DM who was worse than the back-line at Ajax on the ball. Hence ten Hag utilised his CBs and fullbacks to control the build up post Frenkie/Schone. He's a good fit for a David Moyes team but not good enough for us due to his limitations in possession. We should be aiming higher.

You just made this up.

I didn't. It was public knowledge they were looking for one about a year before appointing him. This is the news that we planned to appoint a DOF in 2018. https://www.theguardian.com/football/2018/aug/11/manchester-united-director-of-football

And this is the news of it actually happening in Mar 2021: https://theguardian.com/football/20...t-john-murtough-clubs-first-football-director

United’s appointment of Murtough ends a three-year search by the club for someone to fill such a post.

You said we gave the DoF job to a head scout, which isn't true. He was never a head scout.

He's 4th choice and clearly down the pecking order.

West ham are flying, they've reinforced the squad with Alvarez, Kudus, JWP. This could be a project he's interested in now surely?

You may well be right about the player's quality, I was saying based on his transfers so far here, I'm surprised Ten Hag didn't choose the guy he worked with in Alvarez who can cover both positions and use the 25 or 30M left over on a reliable (if low upside or loan) #9 or a young player he rates as our long-term RCB or just a young player he rates in general, really anywhere but LW and #10 where we now have options.

I think the plan is to go for a controlling #6 next summer. Someone who is comfortable playing on the half turn against the opponent's press and progressing the ball forward. And I think that player will be coming into replace Casemiro.

In the meantime it's become evident that the plan was to develop Kobbie Mainoo in a deeper role. And it'll be interesting to see how that plays out once Mainoo returns from injury.

It is depressing that this guy is one injury away from being a starter and this early into the season... Shaw's injury has effectively cost us in two positions.

Idc about varane being injured we still need to sell maguire and bring someone else in who can play how we want to

If he stays, he’s essentially called it time on his career. He will hang around to receiver his pay check and then probably end up in the States or in Saudi.

I doubt either will want him in 2 years, he either goes to West Ham or takes a drop to Championship or below next year.

What an odd comment.

If any of those players, had pulled off even 10% of what they did and what they have delivered here ( Ronaldo in 2nd term) in some other club, they would be hounded out of the club.

Ronaldo at its prime was booed by Madrid fans who demand highest quality all the time.

Too much noise for him to not make a move before the end of the window. Don't forget, the manager has had multiple opportunities to play him since the season started but he's chosen not to, he even shifted Martinez over to Maguire's side and played Lindelöf at left CB yesterday. If that doesn't say 'feck off' I don't know what does.

Hey ChatGPT, can you write me a forum post that shows I'm massively out of touch with everyone? Thanks

Not so sure I think ETH will do everything he can to not start him in games, Assuming we sign Evans then he'll likely start over Maguire, and I could see him been creative further still if he really has to be. I think he'll tolerate having Maguire coming on with 10-15 minutes to go, but that's it.

I'm hoping he is on his way this week, best thing for everyone.

What do You mean "shifted Martinez over to Maguire's side"?
Yesterday Lindelof played RCB. As a cover, he fills in the position missing, not to disorganise the backline.
Same goes when Martinez went off vs Wolves. Lindelof played LCB, just to keep Varane in his preferable position.
