Westminster Politics

Why are the news outlets calling the far group counter protesters, they weren't there to protest but to get coked up/drunk and cause trouble
They’re also grouping them together with headlines like “92 arrested at protests today”, It really shouldn’t be that difficult to use more precise language, seen as the original protest passed without incident.

On the positive side from the reports it’s seem like there’s less than 3,000 far right supporters. It’s really only a tiny fraction of British society.
It'll be like the infamous Sex Pistols gig at Free Trade Hall. Hardly anyone was actually there, but all those who were will end up on the Starmer Party's 'Future Candidates Programme'.

Not without incident, there was a woman who they are trying to arrest for a hate crime for having a sign implying that the Israelis are akin to fascists. It's good to see what the police budget gets spunked on isn't it?

UK headlines so misleading - casual readers would think the protestors from the ceasefire March were the ones that attacked the police

Under normal circumstances, 126 arrests out of a crowd estimated anything between 200,000 to 800,000 would be classed as of no problems.
But due to the Home Secretary comments, the narrative was always going to focus on the so called troublemakers.

Given the amount of energy Braverman put into an escalation, anyone else think this makes her look more like a thick minnow than an evil mastermind?

She used her role as home secretary and darling of the right press to unite the knobheads for a cause and all she got was basically 1/1000 th of all the hooligans in the country. Hardly impressing is it?

The Tories are shit scared of the far right as the natural inclination of their party leans that way, so they see it as a threat to their ability to stay in power by bleeding votes and support to those fringe, Farage/Tice parties.

They shit themselves over losing two MPs to UKIP that they fecked the country via the Brexit referendum, so she is just trying to invoke the same stuff.

It's not about the amount of hooligans she can manifest, it's that she can do that at all, it's showing public support and more crucially, the internal racists in the Tory party get to see her acting like a tinpot Marie Le Pen.

I was speaking to someone yesterday lunch time who was telling me "it's all kicking off in London, thousands and thousands of Muslims". When I looked it up later the only people who'd been kicking off in the morning were the racist hooligan counter protesters. It's sad, how people can deliberately write stuff to stir up civil unrest and there is no standards commission that can hold them accountable I just can't understand.

Tend to agree with all those points. However I can't help but feel a bit relieved every time one of these far right nutters efforts end in little more than a showing of the idiots we already knew existed. I always fear way more of them show up after all the attention their stupid causes get (or that she succeeds in uniting these nutters with those actually attending the memorials, which as far as I can tell, failed miserably).

It's about allowing those who believe this shit cover and visible imagery of people like them doing stuff like this. It's a collective which makes them feel emboldened

Didn't he say recently it's literally his plan?
Has he actually said it?

It's been obvious for a while that he's been positioning himself for a run at it.

If the world was normal I'd say it would be impossible, but the Torys have leeched so far to populist right wing, I wouldn't bet against it, looking at the likes of Braverman he might even be seen as a less extreme alternative.

Christ, anyone in the UK even remotely considering voting Tory would surely have to reconsider if there was even the slightest chance of that feckwit becoming leader.

Look how the Tories welcomed him at their recent Conference. A few years ago, the Tories wouldn't have touched him with a bargepole, now as others have said, they are sliding so far right, it seems only a matter of time before he is putting himself forward and there isn't any credible centre right person who can stop him.

Could be a fantastic opportunity for a new party to come in and occupy the centre right.

Inb4 labour jokes.

Wonder what @Maticmaker thinks.

I think if there had not been a 'protest' march planned this weekend then the idiots at the cenotaph would not have had an excuse to turn up with their version of protest, which is always violent, and could have been predicted as accurately as the sun rise.
'Protest' and 'Remembrance' are not the same thing.*

People who believe the UK government should call for a full ceasefire in Gaza have every right to organise and take part in a Protest March, in the country's capital city, I just feel it would have been more effective for the protest's cause to have deferred for this weekend.

Let's see what mental gymnastics you try to explain how inappropriate this was…
*see above... no 'mental gymnastics' needed, just common sense.
