Gaming The Last of Us Part II (PS4)

I'd kind of like to see it chronologically. Start with the zebra scene.

Recently got a PS5 then saw prt1 was in the catalogue so after watching the show thought I’d give it a go. The game was alright don’t know if maybe just because I had seen the season some of the things didn’t hit but enjoyed it enough that once I had finished I had to buy prt2.

Just completed it and as a story incredible, so conflicted at many many moments.

So when it switched to Abby, I was at first kinda trying to just get through it as I was just gonna revenge kill the feck out of her, but during the story they do such a good job of making her redeemable that by the time it comes to the big confrontation you feel so attached to both didn’t want either to win.

speculation spoilers below

I wonder who they will get to play Abby and will they be able to find an actress with 18 “ inch Pythons brother!!! sitting playing jealous to feck of her arms. That wasn’t any gun show, it was a festival of gunnage.

Also the thing that happens at the start of the game. Wonder where they would fit that in a series. Feels like something they would prolong maybe ending season 2 with that.
No matter how they handle it the right wing alpha beta losers will create a massive outrage again.

My favourite ever game.
Enough with the remasters etc just announce the third instalment. Just a money grab.

I'd buy a PS5 for a Part III, but I'll happily just waste for this remaster to come to PC instead.

The good thing is that console prices should go down by the time that happens!

It’s one of my favourite ever games. I’ve never felt so emotionally drained after playing a video game.
100%. As a package, 1 & 2 are among the toppest games I’ve ever played and I’d downloaded them recently when I got my new ps5.

Amazing but I quickly decided I wasn’t in the right headspace to start that gruelling journey again. Deleted and started RDR2 instead.

Good, I'll replay or a 3rd time at some point. Not sure I'll get this as the PS4 version is gorgeous already. As for what should they add? How about that cancelled factions multiplayer sequel eh @Alock1 ?

Has part 3 even been announced or confirmed? I mean, it would be mad not to given the commercial success of it right?

They love a re-release/remaster/director's cut.

I'm presuming director's cut means extra sections they had to cut? As good as the game was, it was far too long.

Everything after Ellie leaves the homestead and goes to Santa Barbara had me going "Just end..."

Awesome, I somehow never played the ps4 version past the first hour. Seems like a good excuse to remedy that.
Love the Last of Us Part II. That action and stealth gameplay loop was pure brilliance. Really really hope we get a third.

I understand the feeling it was too long but for me I just didnt want it to end. I would have happily had another chapter

I felt it was too long in the middle but as it was ending, I wished it wouldn't.

I think the segment when Ellie goes ‘back in’ could have been done better. It lost steam during that section. But all in all, narrative, characters, technical doesn’t and gameplay were all top notch. I personally enjoyed part II more than the original. Really hoping the PS5 gets one more original TLOU game.

I think that part was supposed to be a slog, the tone shift, the weather etc...

I still enjoyed playing it but I get what y'all mean, although it was somewhat intentional imo - I think they've said as much too (or I'm misremembering)

Just came in to say this is one of the best games ever, if you haven't played it you're missing out.
Played both. First was meh and second i turned off when i discovered you cant kill a particular person. Never went back.

Its all personal opinions, but these wouldnt feature in my top 20 games of all time, never mind my top 100.

Calling it a remaster isn't doing them any favours as people are triggered by that word.

But when you look at the actual package they are selling it's a great deal and makes perfect sense.

1. This game is being upgraded to be released on PC anyway. So no reason to not release the new version on PS5 as well.

2. The PC version while not announced will likely be released 6 months to a year after this releases.

3. The price is crazy low. 10 dollar upgrade for anyone who owns on PS4

4. Even if people aren't interested in the better graphics, framrates or haptics then it's still essentially a 10 dollar DLC due to the addition of the "Survival" mode and the 3 lost levels.

5. Project was used to train new hires so despite what some say it's not taking away from development of new games.

TLDR
Game was always going to be coming due to the PC release at some point

10 dollars for additional content and a remaster. Really good deal. I'd pay a lot more than that for it tbh.

Scrapping the live service to focus on single player games instead is probably a good thing.

It feels like they've wasted a lot of time on this in hindsight, and I wonder how far away the in-development SP games are after this statement. It's definitely the right decision, but something doesn't really add-up. Why would it take all their resources going forward when it hasn't so far? Why couldn't they partially hand it over to another Sony team for after release dev?

The first was a masterpiece. The second was meh - felt too draggy, not as interesting and they were just forcing that whole LGBTQ thing on everyone.
I get the draggy bit but what do you mean by forcing it on everyone? I don’t recall them forcing anyone to buy their game. I can’t for the life of me understanding why it’s so offensive for people for Ellie to like a girl. Or Abby to be on the bigger side.

Btw as much as the first is remembered as this masterpiece, Part II’s gameplay was lightyears ahead and truly a benchmark for cinematic action-stealth gameplay experiences. So much so that personally I prefer Part II. In fact I don’t mind people being critical of it - I thought they botched a good few hours of the narrative toward theend - but I equally find it odd that the gameplay doesn’t get the due it deserves. Almost as if just because it’s a ND game, what they do with gameplay doesn’t matter.

I doubt Sony has spare teams sitting around waiting for extra work. It's clear the scope of this project got massively out of hand and they either had to release something half-baked or possibly scale up development and make it their main focus. We'll never know the real story, but I think we can all agree we didn't want Naughty Dog to have a fecking live service game as their main focus.

Sony wouldn't say no to creating or expanding a team that can make huge amounts of money over the next decade though. Whether ND would allow or want that is probably a big factor as it's their IP, but agreed that this is the decision most people would want them to make.

In a year where we've seen a record number of layoffs across the industry, and more evidence than ever before that live service games are an enormous risk and most of them get killed within 6 to 12 months after launch, that first part of your post strikes me as extremely simplistic.

You do know that when people buy their game they do not already know the storyline or who the characters will be or their sexual orientation right? I have no problems with Ellie liking a girl, just as I have no problems with Abby being big. Representation and diversity is important. But don't do it just for the sake of it which felt to me like what they did (Lev as well?!). What the game should have done more is to focus on the premise of revenge and its implications which was the main idea of the game.

Anyway that wasn't the main reasons (it was one small gripe) I didn't think the game wasn't very good. I just got bored of it halfway through and was waiting for it to end.
